good stuff

i liked how he laughs when they talk about pargo replacing ben gordon…at the begining though it seems like gordon lost his train of thought at some point or something, he kept going on and on and i had trouble remember what was the inital question.

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

You could tell he really didn't believe what he was saying.

I mean, he referenced the Steve-Nash-In-His-Prime-Suns as the reason to go for a smaller all-scoring lineup and spoke about the proven success of said system despite the lack of championships. Defense still wins championships, and probably always will.

If by success, you mean utter failure and disappointment.

Not that you read my posts anyway…but its nice to see that you define “pretty successful” as losing in the conference playoffs…

wait

multiple 60 win seasons, 2 mvp awards for Nash, 2 visits to the Western Conference finals, 1 altercation away from going to the finals, and 5 straight seasons where they finished 1st or 2nd in their division, and the Suns weren’t “pretty successful”? The Bulls would be lucky to touch that level of failure in the next 10 years.

A little lesson – the last 10 years of the Bulls have been filled with “utter failure and disappointment.” The last 10 years for the Suns have had years of great success and some failures. I guess the Cleveland Cavs, Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets should also be classified as utter failures as well. I mean, they didn’t win the championship.

I guess we as bulls fans should be happy. We never been good enough to have had a disappointing playoff appearance. Every playoff appearance for the Bulls is success! Ten years of rebuilding, fuck yeah!

29 teams fail every season, big whoop

I still would have happily been a Suns fan for the Mike D’Antoni tenure, I can’t remember what it’s like to root for a team that is actually supposed to contend for a title and does so.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

Well you gotta have defense

But I still don’t like that saying all that much. I liked Jordans “teamwork and intelligence” bit seems to cover more. Because to me both the Lakers and Magic weren’t the best defensive teams in their conference.
I think Ben actually has a point that this “era” or whatever you want to call it will be a faster tempo than this past decade. And he didn’t dismiss team defense.

by Camry on Aug 4, 2009 4:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Based on D-Rtg

Magic were the best defensive team in the league. Lakers were 6th best, and 3rd best in the conference.

Out of the second round teams, the Hawks at 11th and Mavericks at 17th were the worse defensive teams.

You had Magic – 1st, Celtics – 2nd, Cavs – 3rd, Rockets – 4th, Lakers – 6th, Nuggets – 8th

Out of the second round teams.

If you want to win a championship though, you really need to have to be like top 7 in both offense and defense.

Cleveland was a more consistent defensive team though theres no doubt. I find it hard to say the Magic were a better defensive team still than them I’d if anything say its even.

But to me Clevland and Boston (but more talented than the Heat or Hawks) both had to rely on it a bit more and Lakers-Nuggets were kind of like that on the offensive side. (but were more talented than a Dallas or Utah…well at least mentally for Utah) The Magic and Rockets may have been the best as far as a good balance to me.

If LA is ranked 6th and won the title with also the Mavs 17th getting to the 2nd round I just think its not cut and dry with those ratings. Your offense can help your defense though and vice versa to me as long as its still to a certain extent.

regarding the laugh:

Ben explains:

“Jannero’s a great friend so I wasn’t laughing at him, but just the statement in itself that I would have to fight for playing time after leading the team in scoring every year is kinda funny.”

I can see now why it seemed Ben and Derrick never talked

In reality, they were just speaking their own language.

Ben: Uh…
Derrick: Uhh..

It’s indecipherable to human ears, but they were actually discussion nano-particles and string theory

Did I hear Ben wrong?

or did he mention D’antoni and the Suns winning two championships?

by darksmokepuncher on Aug 4, 2009 7:35 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

haha yup he said the Suns have won 2 championships

and the first objective in basketball is to score………. and that’s where it stops

LOL that was just bizarre

it’d explain a lot if Ben thought they did win two.

He mentioned Nash though, so maybe he meant the two MVPs.

though it was very interesting

how he lauded D’Antoni ball (penetration, shooting the 3) and said that grind it out defensive teams can no longer be effective due to the rule changes.

Somewhere Reinsdorf is clutching his Red Holtzman book and disagreeing.

The 2008 Celtics also had a top 10 offense

Gordon obviously thinks you can win a title by scoring a ton, that’s what he’s good at. I still think he’s right, at least for the next 4-5 years. You can’t have a crappy offense and an amazing defense and still win a title. It might be good enough to make the Finals (Cleveland in 2007), but it won’t win out.

"You can’t have a crappy offense and an amazing defense and still win a title"

ditto, but the opposite is also true…you cant have and amazing offense and crappy defense and win a title. You need to have a consistant offense for sure, but you also need to be able to get stops.

And people who point out the Spurs and Celtics seem to forget those teams were also very good offensively.

Exactly what I'd want from a player!

Not sulking? Getting immediately back in the gym to work towards next season? I like team players. I know you don’t, though.

I heard this in the car.

It sounded pretty lame. Nothing new really. Ben seems to lose his focus on the phone. I hate when players start moving chairs or talking to other people in the room.

Its interesting that he brought up 'running the floor' as well

wasn’t that supposedly the plan this year with VDN?
we were still primarily a half-court team, and thats with a good rebounder in Noah, and a stupidly quick Derrick Rose.

Stuckey isn’t nearly as quick, and right now I don’t think the Pistons actually have a center. Villanueva doesn’t believe in playing close to the basket, or rebounding, so I’m not so sure the Pistons will be able to get out and run.

Come on...they got Kwame for their center...

Gordon said he wanted to do a sign-and-trade.

I’m D2.0 and others will disregard that, but I know one of the accepted wisdoms around here is that they didn’t do a sign-and-trade because no other team offered what Gordon wanted. He implies here that he was ready to take something, but the Bulls didn’t want to. My guess is because it meant that they’d have to take back more contracts.

the rumor last season

was other teams who were willing to give gordon what he wanted wanted to ship the bulls “multiple” bad contracts… and i’d agree with them that that’s not worth it.

no, i'd agree with that

but i just remember the one thing i read regarding his possible sign and trade deals had that phrasing in it. if it was just marion, then sure i do that deal.
