Around SBN: Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant's Post-Game 5 Outfits

Derrick Rose was asked to describe his expectations for the 2009-10 season and he revealed his lofty hopes.

"To be the best player in the league at my position, and hopefully be the best player in the NBA," said Rose. "There's no point of playing basketball if you don't want to be the best -- or doing anything if you don't want to be the best. So that's my goal for next season."

And to get Kirk his starting job

that should be everyone’s goal this season.

He wants it

Go get it.

12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

i think its silly to say things like

“and win some games” or “don’t forget about the playoffs.” Of course he isn’t. All these guys have individual goals they set up for themselves. That is one reason why they are in the NBA now; because they focused so much on their game and became really, really good. I think if he actually becomes the best player at his position or in the NBA, the Bulls will win some basketball games.

Even the selfless Capt Kirk says his main goal this season is to start. Why do we want these guys giving cookie cutter bullshit answers?

i was kinda thinking the same thing

if his motivation is to be that good, that will help us win…

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

You cant be called

the best player in the game or in your position if your team sucks, its why ‘experts’ still hesitate to call lebron ‘The Best in the Game’..so i share your thoughts, if he achieves his goal, were probably contenders (but perhaps not SUPER contenders…)

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

Uhhh Smurf

I have to disagree with your analysis there. Now when I read Rose’s answer I had to re-read what the question was and I hoped the question was “what are you PERSONAL expectations for the 2009-10 season” that way his answer would have been a little better with me, then again you’d still want him to answer that a goal is to “lead my team to the playoffs”, or something to that degree. The man said absolutely nothing about the team whatsoever. Even if the answer is bogus, you want the guys to say the right things. He may have said how he feels and I’m sure he didn’t mean to be arrogant or selfish, but this was a bad answer.

Agreed

It’s not like I don’t realize that every NBA player has personal goals and probably do put them ahead of the team’s goals. I just want our superstar to be smart enough to realize when he should lie (answering that question) and when he shouldn’t lie (taking the SAT).

Still love me some D-Rose though.

Well thats the thing about Rose already

His whole game is to me modeled after facilitating and making his teammates happy so I think hes good. If anything last year everyone was saying he wasn’t aggressive enough.

Actually

the question was “What are the expectations you’ve put on yourself for the 2009-10 season?” in the actual Sun-Times article. This Real GM link doesn’t show that.

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."- Michael Jordan

Word. That makes much more sense.

I just never thought that Rose would be the type of guy to not say the right thing about the team. But, if the question was about him personally then I love the answer. Aim high young blood!

by Rose Colored Goggles on Aug 28, 2009 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

This is ridiculous.

Our player of the future lays out a goal, to be the best player on the planet, and you guys are bitching about it? When it comes down to it, as long as each Bulls player works on his individual game, the team will be better.

I think it's mostly tongue-in-cheek criticism

Please let the early circus trip swoon get here so we can really complain!

Then that's a different story

The way Balla said the question was posed makes the answer a lot better.
