The Greatest of All Time (the reason we are Bulls fans)
"I don’t think anybody will ever really touch what Michael has done for the game," he said when asked if Kobe or LeBron James could ever vie for Jordan’s "best-ever" title. "They may be able to break a record he had or maybe win more championships. Michael was 28 when he won his first championship, and LeBron could win one before he reaches that age and have a chance at winning more than six. But Michael’s image as a player will always stand and his greatness will never be superseded."

Grew up in Florida...
with Chicago roots so they were my team, but I had TONS of friends who shared in my passion for the Bulls who had no Chicago connection whatsoever.
God, you’re so negative about the dynasty!

Not true
I watched NBA games as a kid all the time on CBS but never payed attention to the Bulls until they drafted Michael. We never even went to a game until then.
"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."- Michael Jordan

I said 'a lot'
not everyone.
As in, ‘a lot’ of BaB readers can’t really read.

'A lot'
of people living in Chicago didn’t pay attention to the Bulls until Jordan came along just based on attendance records alone.

I'm from NY
spent my whole childhood mocking Knicks fans and Patrick Ewings ugly sideline jumper.
so if you’re from chicago – Hate it or love it – but having MJ on the team means a lotta of out of the area fans are gonna be with you now, thats the price to pay when you have a once in a lifetime athlete play for your team.
Since Jordan, i’ve stayed die-hard with this team, and spendin all these years having the bulls suck is just gonna make it that much sweeter for when they win it again.

Word
I’m a fellow fan-from-afar as I grew up in Atlanta and then St. Louis (I dig Atlanta teams, but mock St. Louis teams mercilessly) but because of Michael Jordan and also Sam Smith’s The Jordan Rules I have always been a huge Chicago Bulls (and by extension, Chicago sports as a whole) fan.
Luckily, I live in Chicago now.

and Reinsdorf appreciates the support
I wonder if BDL will do a ‘worst franchise of the decade’…the Bulls have to be up there, right?
I’m all for more Bulls fans, whether it’s because of Jordan or not. But the level of nostalgia is lame.

I think the nostalgia stems from the fact that since the end of the dynasty the Bulls have
been either mediocre or awful. There’s not a lot to be excited about and because Reinsdork doesn’t want to spend for a winner, they will continue to top out at mediocre. Unless Derrick Rose can really get to LeBron-ian levels of dominance (doubtful).
1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

At least it's not on the levels of sadness of the Bears
Going more than 20 years without another title or elite team to lay claim to would be pathetic.

the Bears made the super bowl like 3 years ago
just saying
by Basketball Smurf on Aug 28, 2009 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
They lost, and people would still hold the 85 Bears in a higher regard even if they won
That’s the problem, though. Chicago fans are so obsessed with the past and reconstructing history to fit their obvious biases about these current players.

yea it can be lame
like if you’re a lakers fan and you’re nostalgic about the shaq years
but the bulls have been mediocre at best the last 10 years, so pardon me while i watch Jordan to the Max
by markoni22 on Aug 28, 2009 11:35 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
right, thus the lameness
I’d rather everyone focused on the current team! (and be pissed off!)

MJ would be my biggest reason NOT to be a Bulls fan.

Or cause she's not from Chicago, and most people who rooted for non-Bulls teams tended to get their fandom crushed by the guy

Like Ozzie and dakoose said, I was a fan of another team growing up
But it’s even a little more extreme than just the fandom crushing, because that team I grew up loving was the Blazers, and I’m sure I don’t need to recap the special place Chicago drafting MJ held for us.
I do appreciate how incredibly, disgustingly talented MJ was. But I hated him and the Bulls. I’m not sure even my love of Kirk could have overcome that, had the Bulls not sucked so badly for the several previous years.

I'm assuming he's takling about
fans outside of Chicago who should have hated the Bulls and Jordan for owning the league during the 1990’s. I mean, nobody even had a chance against those teams. Six in a row? That’s fucking nuts, and it would have been eight if Jordan hadn’t gone off to chase curveballs in Birmingham. I know a lot of people that hated the Bulls.

I fell in love with the Bulls back in 1981 when Reggie Theus, The A-Train, Orland Woolridge...
…David Greenwood, Ricky Sobers and co. were who the Bulls consisted of. I loved the way Sobers shot the ball and to this day my uncle calls me “Rick” because I used to try to shoot like Sobers. My father would take me to all the Bulls games because my uncle worked security at the Old Stadium (gate 3 1/2 by the parking lot for those of you who remember the old place) and he’d let us in the games for free. Then one Fall evening in 1984 in a nearly empty Chicago Stadium when the Bulls played the Washington Bullets, I saw a skinny kid wearing #23 for the Bulls and he had a flair unlike any player I’d seen to that point.
Then two games later the Bulls played the Milwaukee Bucks and I remember Jordan scoring 37 in that game and #23 instantly became my favorite player. I look back on those times now and realize that’s what I enjoyed most. I was only 9 when Jordan was a rookie, but I knew then that I’d be fortunate enough to see the career of a special player and one day experience the joy of winning (cause Lord knows the Bulls were losing in the early 80’s…LOL).
I read about these people who became Bulls fans in the 90’s when the Bulls were winning and I submit that they missed the best part about being Bulls fans. Seeing early Michael Jordan was a treat.

The Bulls ruled Chicago bb scene well before Michael Jordan put on a pair of Nikes
Jordan had an advantage over other NBA guards because he was quick and tall. If he was a forward his point totalage would have been alot smaller
If you dont like me please ignore me and my posts

Are you kidding me andy?
You gotta be kidding me. You do realize that he guy played small forward for the Washington Wizards at 39 and 40 yrs old in 2002-2003 and still averaged 20ppg and 6rpg. Do you really truly believe he doesn’t still put up 30+ ppg in his 20s and 30s?
