Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

[From the FanShots. You can look at this as nothing, or the opening salvo in the Bulls attempt to low-ball Johnson's contract extension in 2013. It's August, feel whatever you may :-) -ed.]

On one occasion, Johnson has tried to cut short a workout, thanking an assistant coach after a few drills and trying to leave only to be scolded that they weren't done yet. One source within the organization said he expects forgotten man Taj Gibson to have a bigger impact than Johnson in their rookie years.

Gotta have a soap opera - typical

Taj will be the prodigal son, so it seems. Tries hard, no talent, gets to start in place of more talented guys, makes undeserving 10 mil a yr down the rd.

I'm sure there's a part about him looking mopey

it’s in the back of the bible, somewhere.

Yeah, I think you got that flipped.

Taj is the loyal son and JJ would be the prodigal son. Only the Bulls don’t welcome back their wayward sons with parties like in the story. All Taj has to do is be a hard worker and he’ll be loved. For the Bulls results are less important than who is being the most son-like.

Although

the loyal son was the one who was mopey in the end, so your comparison to our 10 mil a year mopey loyal son is right on the mark.

Whatever, these guys are rookies. How many people outside of the top 12 picks even make an impact during their rookie years? Much less on playoff teams (and if we’re not a playoff team who even cares?).

I feel like the team has been talking up their rookies all summer to cover the fact that we lost net value in an offseason that was full of value. Sure, we hope that the young guys and injured guys will come back better and stronger, but it just seems like this has been a disappointing offseason.

I sure hope this isn’t a sign of things to come, another fall of watching a young player get into it with a coach on a losing team is not what I’m hoping (there’s that word again, hope) for.

Only 4th? Did you add in how nice his hair looks?

For me he is 3rd after Rose and Noah.

His Air Jordan silhouette tattoo alone makes him my 3rd fav. The “One Love” tat is nice, too. The only thing I like better than no tats are well-done tats, and his composition is pretty tight. Right up there with Beasleys IMO. (Much better than Rose’s which are a complete mess).

by smash! on Aug 12, 2009 7:14 PM CDT up reply actions

There's no plan- he might have a few nice tats, but the composition is so damn random.

I think they look like shit. And if you’re going to get a Chicago skyline tattoo- which could be amazing- get it someone other than your hand! There are like 3 buildings and a setting sun in the form of a basketball… cheesy! Can you imagine how sick it would be if he got the skyline on his shoulders? City of Big Shoulders… could have been sick.

Rose's Poohdini tat is sick

"Vinny continues to act like a crazed arsonist pouring gasoline on our season while running around carrying a torch yelling 'I’m in charge. Don’t any of you foolish knaves try to second guess me. I know gasoline is a liquid but I’m pretty sure it isn’t flammable and the odor gives me a natural high.'" - Tyrusmancrush

by Illini15 on Aug 12, 2009 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Yeah, that one's fine. I just mean there's no plan to the composition as a whole.

It would have been tight if he kept the style of the “Englewood” tats on his forearms- but you can’t even see those. I don’t think the tat artist is anything special. I like the guys like Beasley, Johnson, TT, even James, who clearly have a really good artist with a vision and a specific style. I hate the guys like AI who have 30 different fonts in different directions with no road map…

by smash! on Aug 13, 2009 9:49 AM CDT up reply actions

It doesn't bother me.

This should be something bloody obvious before they drafted him. Kinda like how they drafted BG and then forever complained he was short. Well, duh. If Johnson is good then it matters much less to me. If Johnson isn’t it still doesn’t matter that much. The fault is on the organization for drafting him when his weight and attitude etc was right there for them to see pre-draft. Besides, he was the 16th pick. I am not expected that much out of him to begin with.

I get more red flags with hard working Taj. That’s the Bull’s weakness right there.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Ben Gordon, Pau Gasol, and Amare Stoudemire are apparently guys the Bulls didn’t feel would make them into a championship team.

mm.. not that I am judging too soon

but when someone asks flakey then we have to say “he is a flake”.. I called it the night he got drafted. Seems to have bad discipline and unmotivated.

by Fastbreak on Aug 12, 2009 5:56 PM CDT reply actions

Basketball's probably not his biggest passion.

Fighting and karate probably are.

You don’t have to have Kirk Hinrich’s no collar work ethic to be a good NBA player. If he can use his talents on the court, that’s all that matters.

Gibson is gonna be a permanent D-Leaguer in a year. Cedric Simmons version 2.

As far as JJ, as long as he produces on the court, all else means nothing. That being said, he already needed to bust his ass to get in NBA weight and shape so he should want to go all out before the season so he can get a chance to play and contribute.

by C Smoove on Aug 12, 2009 6:15 PM CDT reply actions

We heard something about his work ethic before the draft

So, that’s not really a problem. If the Bulls drafted him, it was because they thought JJ can contribute somehow… Carmelo was arrested for driving dunk – or something like that -, Noah was caught smoking and drinking, and that doesn’t make them worst players. As long as he contribute, I don’t care if we works hard or not. If his production declines because of his work ethic, that’s other question. In that case, the Bulls should punish him

by bull83 on Aug 12, 2009 6:36 PM CDT reply actions

Disgusting

They drafted this guy only two months ago, after supposedly spending hundreds of hours looking into each player’s background… and they’re already criticizing his work ethic. So who looks worse here, Johnson or the organization?

Get real at 16

A 16th pick is a long shot to make a NBA team let alone be a difference maker – right!?! It’s a pretty clear stat in the NBA.

GM Paxson took a chance – you know that thing some Bulls fans complain he rarely does. Who did he miss out on?

Last year GSW took a chance with at 14 Randolph and he’s figuring it out – how to practice, play angry and play controlled.

by Noe_Valley on Aug 14, 2009 12:35 AM CDT up reply actions

Sam sez

…this list of 20 former No. 16 picks is not encouraging as only two were regular NBA starters, Ron Artest and Hedo Turkoglu. Neither has been an All Star. Chris Gatling [x-GSW] made an All Star team and the 1990 World Championships team, but bounced around the NBA.

So Williams will probably not be a starter. Any hope he can be good is based on his high upside – something Paxson took a shot at 16.

They drafted him in case an MMA fight ever breaks out on the court. Anything he does as a basketball player is just an added bonus.

Exactly

With Gordon on the Pistons now, Malice at the Palace 2 is bound to happen.

Gordon will drop 50 some points on Kirk Hinrich, who will retaliate against Gordon by trying to throw him down. But Gordon’s muscle bound body will stay put, and Hinrich will fall into the crowd in exhaustion, at which point the crowd starts beating the crap out of Hinrich, at which point James Johnson beats up the entire Pistons fanbase in attendance.

agreed on everything but the athleticism -

he’s strong, faster, bigger, and jumps higher than Carmelo. Is he a special athlete? Hell no. But with that body conrol (sick) and flexibility (sicker) he’s certainly a very good athlete.
