demarcus nelson

played well in the summer league. he was a good perimeter defender which the bulls needed

by dabears85 on Jul 30, 2009 7:03 PM CDT reply actions

I would rather have Nelson than Hunter. At least Nelson will be another quality perimeter defender. Old Man Hunter needs to just be an assistant coach.

Ditto.

Why...

I mean really who gives a flip who the 13th or 14th man is? Those spots may as well be practice squad spots…I mean, unless someone gets injured…

Just further indictment of the Bulls

Lindsey Hunter should have been coaxed into retirement and hired as an assistant coach, since that is what they’re paying him $1 million for.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 30, 2009 9:44 PM CDT up reply actions

If it doesn't matter, take the two cheaper guys.

A few hundred K might matter in making a trade or being able to sign a player in case of injury.

Beyond that, Nelson might actually be able to play.
Johnson might actually have to if Deng isn’t healthy.

Johnson’s also known as a guy who’s actually a good practice player. Someone who’s an unfailingly nice guy and who works his ass off. Aaron Gray has lottery level talent but is a dumbass who can’t motivate himself to get in NBA shape even though it’d guarantee him a lifetime of wealth.

by Sports2 on Jul 30, 2009 10:54 PM CDT up reply actions

hmm lets not push it

even if aaron gray gets in shape,e is still a back-end of the rotation player unless he was playing for the timberwolves or something. Regardless of his weight, there are only so many things you can do to improve on your natural athletic ability…your description woud probably be more fitting for tyrus thomas who has all the athletic ability in the world and could earn superstar money one day.

I agree with you there

Given his size and array of offensive moves….but mostly given his size. He’d get at least near the MLE if he was 30-50lbs lighter (I mean who are we kidding Gray’s got to be 300 now, not the 280, and that’s down from the 330 he probably was after putting on weight as a rookie)…

I think you're too hard on Gray

sure he could make $400k less, but he does have one skill (standing and taking up space) and some guys don’t even have that.

He should rarely play though. Remember when he started? That was….something.

good ol' CJ Bulls...
The last time I checked the newspapers and ESPN, I have yet to encounter someone claiming starting Gray is even a remotely bad decision.

And I watched Royal Ivey punch Gray in the nuts about 40 times.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 31, 2009 12:34 PM CDT up reply actions

im ok with gray over linton

but i would’ve kept nelson instead of hunter. he’s cheaper than lindsay and nelson can actually play a little. you can say those spots don’t matter, but do you really think rose, hinrich, salmons, and pargo are all going to be healthy for all 82 games? at some point that 5th guard (is hunter, should be nelson) is probably going to have to play 5-10 minutes in a few games, so you might as well take the cheaper, better guy instead of a glorified assistant coach.

and who knows, nelson’s young, maybe he could impress and start taking some of pargo’s minutes? i’m very, very down on pargo— there’s a reason CSKA didn’t want him back— and i actually think nelson could potentially have been a better contributor than him

by Calogero on Jul 31, 2009 8:11 AM CDT up reply actions

oops, not CSKA

he was on the other moscow team, and i forgot he moved to olympiakos midseason. either way, he sucked over here and he sucked over there.

by Calogero on Jul 31, 2009 8:18 AM CDT up reply actions

It's summer league people.

I mean, no offense to Nelson, but it doesn’t mean anything.

by Unrealcity on Jul 31, 2009 9:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Can't say I didn't see it coming.

I’ll bet everyone saw it coming. Still, I’ll agree that I would’ve given Nelson the nod over Hunter. We didn’t need Johnson at all, though.

Pete Myers vs. Lindsay Hunter vs. DeMarcus Nelson

Kind of interesting how organizational guy Myers gets the assistant coach opening, while Vinnie glows about the coaching qualities of Hunter, who’s going to end up taking a roster spot but can’t play anymore, and Nelson, who might actually be worth a roster spot, is sent packing.

It’s almost like the Organization said “You will have Pete Myers on your bench” and Vinnie said, “How about Lindsey Hunter”. Agreement was reached that Myers would be allowed to sit there and collect a paycheck, and Hunter would collect one via the last roster spot.

by Sports2 on Jul 31, 2009 1:10 PM CDT up reply actions

how did Pete Myers become such a fixture with the Bulls?

i don’t get it. i remember him playing pretty badly when Jordan retired and than he pretty much disappeared when Harper was signed and Jordan came back. Now, the Bulls can’t get rid of him.

they need

to sign Augustine instead of Gray…end of story!

by Gogiman15 on Jul 31, 2009 12:34 PM CDT reply actions

Not that I watched summer league

but at least Gray can rebound. What can Augustine even do? He couldn’t stay out of foul trouble in the NCAA title game, I know that much! (still bitter)

i think

dont look at the fouling in summer league and think its gonna be like that if he played. i doubt Taj is gonna come in for his 5-10 mpg and foul out…ur looking too much into that…if someone tells me u cant foul out id be hacking away too…i just think that augustine can give u the same if not more than grays slow ass and for cheaper…plus with VDN he might start gray cause hes been here knows the system matchups whatever…at least with Augustine hell think twice (hopefully) before deciding he should be our starting center

by Gogiman15 on Jul 31, 2009 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions

that's a pretty odd rationale

keep Gray off the team just because Vinny might use him too much? It’s not that crazy, sadly.

its

freaken scary honestly!

by Gogiman15 on Jul 31, 2009 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm a little confused and I'm sure you guys can help.

According to the NBA Player’s Association:

Each Team agrees to have twelve (12) players on its Active List and to have a minimum of eight (8) players on the bench for all Regular Season games. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any Team may from time to time as appropriate, but for no more than two (2) consecutive weeks at a time during the Regular Season, have eleven (11) players on its Active List.

If we have 13 players under contract how does this affect us making a multi-player trade by the Feb deadline? Example: Tyrus and Jerome James for Boozer, which leaves us with 12 players, 7 on the bench.

by PricanStar on Jul 31, 2009 1:01 PM CDT reply actions

interesting

I’m guessing they would just sign a guy right before the deal. Linton Johnson will be on standby.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Jul 31, 2009 1:02 PM CDT up reply actions

you'd have to sign someone

this happened when the warriors and pacers made that big stephen jackson trade a couple years back; golden state would’ve only had 6 available players that night so they called azubuike and someone else up from the d-league.

by Calogero on Jul 31, 2009 2:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I think you are confusing the "bench" part.

That is not saying that you have to have 5 starters and 8 bench guys. It just means that you have to have 12 guys signed to your roster. And only 4 can be hurt or gone for some personal reason or whatever. Each game, you literally have to have 8 guys show up and be “on the bench”. That includes starters. So in your proposed deal, 2 or 1, we would still have 12 guys on the active roster and should be able to field 8 of them on any given day.

by Unrealcity on Jul 31, 2009 10:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I hope Demarcus finds another team.
