SI not impressed with Bulls this summer
Nothing new here, but SI expresses frustration with PaxDorf's lame summer.

This article sucks
He gives no consideration to the summer of 2010. I’m sure there were moves to be made this summer if the Bulls wanted to be aggressive, but personally I’d rather see the Bulls create/maintain some cap flexibility and try to lure some big name here next summer rather than give inflated contracts to mediocre/overrated players this off season.
The Ben Gordon situation is different. I don’t mind that we let him walk, but I can see how others might.
well if his point is about this season
then what does 2010 matter? The Bulls did pretty much nothing, and will probably be a bit worse this year. For outsiders who view this as an ‘up and comer’, it’s a good sobering reminder.

Or...
The Bulls made a couple of savvy moves, and will probably be a bit better this year.

yep
re-signing Gray was completely savvy. They should be 3rd in the East because of that alone.
left shark - "Kirk needs to go and join Ben Gordon and L Deng somewhere else trade Deng and Hinrich they no good"

I disagree
I think that any half way decent sports writer should be smart enough to realize that often times short-term gains don’t outweigh their long-term consequences. I’m not saying that I agree with every move the Bulls have made, but I definitely don’t see any of this summer’s free agents (except for maybe Gordon) as long-term fits for the team. The same can be said of this summer’s trade bait.
Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make. This summer I believe that to be true. Other summers and trade deadlines, that definitely was not the case. But this summer it is/was.
isn't that what he's saying?
the Bulls are running in place, hoping they simply get better with the same guys. It didn’t sound extremely critical of the approach, just pointing it out in relation to the real contending teams. There may have been some out there who actually thought the Bulls were in that group, I dunno :)

Maybe.
But anyone who actually follows the Bulls knows that we’re at least one legit all-star away from being a true contender (and Gordon was not that all-star). Therefore, adding a Rasheed Wallace here or a Charlie Villanueva there really wasn’t going to be any better than sticking with what we got. Sure, we could even beef up our roster with the David Lee’s and Hedo Turkoglu’s of the NBA, but we’d still be a half a piece to a piece short of truly contending.
I did take the article to be pretty critical, and disagree with the critique that making moves this summer would have made the Bulls a better team.
They're more than one all-star away
they were an all-star away if they kept Gordon. Considering what they’ll have to give up (either in purging contracts or players in a deal) for that all-star, they’d still not be there. But they’d have a shot. I’ll never buy that keeping Gordon somehow prohibited them from acquiring an all-star. Only the tax, and Kirk Hinrich’s adoption papers, did that.
And yes, making moves this summer would’ve made the Bulls a better team this year. They do still have to play this year, right?

The last thing Chicago needs is to turn this guy into Allen Iverson.
ouch
Just the other day, it saw New Orleans swap Tyson Chandler not for P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith — two players long gone, from whom the Bulls got little (Brown) and nothing (Smith) — but for Emeka Okafor. Okafor at least would have been an upgrade over Thomas and Noah in the Bulls’ endless quest for some low-post scoring.
double ouch

He sounds like a Bulls fan.
