Hinrich Vs. Gordon

Who do you all think would get the best of this matchup during the regular season?  I put my money on hinrich stopping BG.  But thats just my respect for Hinrich's D, and knowing BG's tricks.

Won't that be ridiculously fun to watch 4 times a year for the next 3 years?  Hinrich harassing Gordon with his shirt pulling, and would be able to move step for step with BG.  Not to mention his superior size, and equal strength?

Who would you all take?

I wonder if Kirk will post up Ben?

by Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. on Jul 3, 2009 1:42 AM CDT reply actions

if kirk

had any sort of post up game…

Salmons on the other hand would probably do it all day.

Can't wait to play the Pistons

For every 15 Ben puts up, that’s 20 for whoever he’s guarding

Gordon is way stronger than Kirk. Just look at the two. Kirk has probably spent 10 minutes in the weight room his whole life…Gordon is jacked.

Secondly, most SG’s don’t post up. I barely remember that many times where Ben got posted up.

Dahntay Jones was posting him up when we played Denver

I don't doubt that Gordon is stronger...

But Hinrich is much stronger than you’re giving credit.

Delonte West

posted up gordon this year…..delonte west!!!

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

Give me a break

West was one of the few guards to attempt to post Gordon all season. Someone taking Gordon into the post was a very rare occassion. Add in the fact that Hinrich has never operated in the post and I think its pretty clear that Kirk won’t be taking anyone into the post.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 3, 2009 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

He also posted up

Hinrich that same game…..he posts up quite a bit of folks, but oddly they don’t use him in that mold enough…..he should be their PG, very surprisingly talented, and he has herpes (or so it seems)…

Sorry

But every time I see him I think of his seemingly herpes…

Kirk and Ben will split 2-2 in the individual matchups

But in the 2 games BG wins, he’ll crush HInrich with his ridiculous shooting. Hinrich can somewhat slow a guy like Wade down with his solid D because Wade’s not a great shooter, but Ben shoots better when pressured and at off angles.

That will be sad to see but interesting.

I just really hope there’s some sort of plan for our team.

So its harder to guard gordon instead of wade

Im gonna have to disagree with you….its harder to stop a guy who can get to the rim at will and draw contact, you are most likely to foul him and if you help defense doesnt get there in time, hes gonna score. Its easier to disrupt jump shooters….

by piccolomair on Jul 3, 2009 1:14 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not meaning to say

It’s harder to guard Gordon than Wade, it isn’t….but Wade’s style is more suited to Hinrich’s D than BG’s jump shots at every angle….

Hinrich does a good job of keeping in front of Wade and slowing the driving lanes (one of the few guards who seems to more continually be able to slow him there)….but Wade and other guards have an easier time getting some jump shots up….it’s just they’re less talented at that. BG’s great on the angles.

I think that Kirk might struggle more with that individual matchup, that’s all….certainly not trying to say Gordon’s better than Wade.

Hinrich will be fine

He averaged almost 2 steals a game against the Celtics in the playoffs.
He’ll have about 5 against Gordon and his sloppy dribbling.

What everyone keeps forgetting about losing BG....

Kirk is nearly 40% from 3 in his career and over 40% last year in an injury shortened season.

from ESPN

Salmons is more of a natural small forward, but could very well land as the Bulls’ opening night starter at the shooting guard. He’s not the one-on-one player Gordon was by any stretch, but he shot a respectable 41.7% from 3-point range last season (better than Gordon), and is a far superior defender on the wing. Salmons spaces the floor for Rose just as well as BG did and is a better defender.

Also, from this article, these guys are better playmakers than BG and will help Rose’s off the ball play by rewarding him with more dimes for nasty dunks.

by BigforkBullsFan on Jul 3, 2009 1:35 PM CDT reply actions

Oops

My point was that Salmons and Hinrich space the floor for Rose just as well as BG did and are better defenders. Also they will be more likely to help Rose score easy baskets. Losing BG makes Rose have to be “the man” this can’t be a bad thing right?

by BigforkBullsFan on Jul 3, 2009 1:37 PM CDT reply actions

Best defense on Kirk is allow he to be self defended, Kirk man can double Rose

Kirk misses open layups and open jumpers. He’s hit semi contested jumpers with a higher percentage than open ones.

man up!

by exult463 on Jul 3, 2009 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Wrong there

Kirk’s a good shooter and he can drive when left open….he’s not nearly BG, but he’s not inept offensively…..if he was left alone it might make him more aggressive, because when he’s aggressive, he’s pretty good.

I know Gordon looks more efficient and dangerous cuz he's short and all and works so hard...

but look at the numbers. Salmons and Hinrich both shoot 40% from 3. They aren’t as good one-on-one, but are also way better passers. I guess we’ll see.

by BigforkBullsFan on Jul 3, 2009 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Salmons is not a better paser, that just simply isn't true

He’s a 1-on-1 scorer similar to Gordon, only he takes less 3 pointers and drives to the hoop a bit more. Expecting better ball movement is fine, but the Bulls will still have a volume shooter on the floor.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 3, 2009 2:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm sure you're right.

I just think it’s hard not to be a better passer than BG.

by BigforkBullsFan on Jul 3, 2009 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

And yet somehow Salmons manages it.

Vinny Del Negro Offensive Gameplan, Part 1
-When there's less than 30 seconds left in the game, that's me with my hands cupped around my mouth yelling.
"BEN! SHOOT! SHOOOOTTTT!!! WHY AREN'T YOU LISTENING TO ME?!?"
-This segues nicely into my Timeout Management classes - order now!

by Prevenge on Jul 4, 2009 3:43 AM CDT up reply actions

Gordon doesn't look more efficient

he is more efficient. Gordon has a higher ts% and ef% than Salmons and Hinrich. He also turned the ball over on less of his possessions did Hinrich or Salmons.

Over the course of BG’s career he is a 42% 3 pt shooter compared to Hinrich at 38% and Salmons at 36%. When you add in the fact that BG shoots 3 more 3pters per 36 than Salmons and 1 more than Hinrich, you are losing a volume shooter who is really efficient.

Yes Hinrich shot 41% from 3 last year, but he shot 35% from 3 the year before. Hinrich’s shooting has been up and down through out his career.

You keep telling everyone to “look at the numbers.” Well I did, and BG is better and more consistent than Hinrich and Salmons. I’m not arguing that the Bulls are going to fall apart without BG, but I’m getting tired of hearing that Salmons and Hinrich can just step in and replace him. Neither guy has ever been asked to carry a team on offense in their entire careers. You just don’t walk into that role and perform.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 3, 2009 3:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Salmons’ shooting season is a fluke. Ben has done that for over 5 years. Salmons had one decent season, he’s not a true shooter.

Kirk can hit open 3s but he clanks a lot of em too.

BG had to go fine, but neither Salmons or Kirk can replace the pure shooting. Hinrich is better at D, Salmons isn’t. Salmons is so overrated it’s funny, he’s not that great folks!

by C Smoove on Jul 3, 2009 3:20 PM CDT reply actions

hold on

Salmons is a much better defender than Gordon.

by darksmokepuncher on Jul 4, 2009 8:37 AM CDT up reply actions

Not really. He’s a slightly better man to man defender, but Salmons team defense is godawful. He’s just taller so people assume he’s a much better defender. Not a good passer either. Honestly, I remember Ben dishing more dimes to people than Salmons. Remember when Tyrus crushed J. O’Neal with that dunk in transition, who fed him the ball? Hint:(it wasn’t Salmons)
