Hey, it matters. Team Euro is an East Playoff contender, we want them to stink so Bosh leaves, etc.

The Raps are doing what it takes to keep Bosh

I’m starting to think if they have a good season he will stay in Canada.

I doubt it

He already said he was going to test free agency.

by runningman on Jul 30, 2009 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions

good pickup for them

he seems like a talented guy who got lost in nelly nelly land.

toronto has improved at nearly every position this off-season:
pg: jarrett jack
sg: demar derozan and bellinelli
sf: turkoglu
c: nesterovic
they’re shaping up to be way deeper and more talented this year. dammit.

Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

also acquired Reggie Evans

and Antoine Wright (who sucks, but still…)

ah

I forgot about reggie evans. antoine wright was an intentional omission.

eh theres alot of hope

Jack is just a backup to calderon, so i dont know how great his impact could be, maybe defensively but it wont be a huge factor. Derozen is a rookie from a weak draft class, so maybe eventually he will be special…or maybe not….bellinelli is an average sg at best, sgs should flourish in the nelly ball system, its a guard friendly system….but it never did for him, turkoglu may be called the jordan of turkey, but aside from being clutch and having mismatch abilities, his game isnt as well rounded as people would like to think, and without dwight howard i think it will be more obvious, nesterovic is a solid center…that is all….

So toronto still doesnt strike me as any kind of force….but i could be completely wrong…

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

They have a solid core

with Bosh, Bargnani (who really improved second half of last season), Turkoglu, and Calderon. Their biggest problem last year was bench production-something that would look to be more of a strength this upcoming season.

A force? probably not. but top 4 in the East? I don’t see anyone else grabbing that fourth spot after the cavs, magic, and celtics…

Their defense will likely blow

but so does the Bulls. And I don’t think our offense competes with theirs.

Two words: Luxury tax.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

by fundamentallysound on Jul 30, 2009 8:29 AM CDT up reply actions

Sad they couldn't even offer a 1 year deal to entice someone like McDyess, Theo Ratliff to add some depth

Let alone re-signing Ben Gordon.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

Because who amongst those guys would you really want on your team?

And because of the guy the Raps are doing all this for: Bosh.

by smash! on Jul 30, 2009 9:26 AM CDT up reply actions

Bellinelli, for one.

I still hold out hope that Kirk will be traded, since I don’t like him at the 2, and Derrick Rose might play close to 40mpg at pg this year. A young, cheap, athletic, three point shooting, up-tempo player like Bellinelli would be a good complement to Rose, especially seeing as the Bulls just removed Derrick’s favorite target. So Belli for two reasons: his game and flexibility with Kirk.

Secondly, Emeka, for the reasons I outlined in that thread. I won’t subject you, or others, to a rehash. :)

Anyway, I’m just frustrated by a nagging sense that we’re being taken for a ride as fans. History just isn’t on our side regarding 2010. Look at the Bulls’ track record with free-agents: we haven’t signed a star FA since Dennis Rodman, and even he was a role-player. And that was when we had MJ and Pippen as selling points. Rubbing salt in our wounds is the fact that, for years, we’ve been the NBA’s most profitable franchise, despite one of the NBA’s lowest winning percentages. Not that we’ve been cheap, exactly…just sporadically cheap but consistently mismanaged.

You mention, rightly, that the Raps are doing this to get Bosh. They’re improving their team, because good players want to play with other good players.

If that’s the case…why did we sit out this offseason, again?

We signed Wallace

and he was a star if you don’t rewrite history.

Free agent’s don’t go to bad teams with no hope, and the Bulls were bottom of the league for a long time, so of course they didn’t get free agents. As soon as the Bulls started winning again, you had Wallace, you had Kobe demanding a trade only to Chicago, you have Boozer saying he’d like to be traded here, Amare said some nice things….

We know why stars didn’t want to come, and we also know that situation has changed. When you look at history, you have to look at the relevant history.

He was on the way down at that point;

by the time he got him, he was garbage.

Belinelli can shoot the ball. Not good on D but he can shoot. Toronto will be weak as hell on D and boards but they should make the playoffs this year.

Sorry I reposted this I did not scroll down far enough this morning.

I really wish the Bulls could have picked him up. We need depth at SG and could have added some points. But we really did not have matching salaries so it would have been hard. Raptors got Belinelli for basically nothing. GREAT trade for them.

he probably stinks though.

I guess we can just compare him to Pargo this year and see how it works out.

Yeah you may be right.

However, 8.9 PPG, 2 AST in 21 minutes with a .442 FG% and .397 3P% not bad for a second year player.
