Deng to miss Great Britain's autumn games
[From the FanShots. Not good news that Deng still isn't ready to play. Though it's better than an unnecessary risk of re-injury -ed.]
The Bulls insist Deng is not fit enough to play for GB. If we weren't overpaying Deng, I would say let him do what he wants, but he's making WAY too much money, to get injured playing for another team.

And I got torched
for calling BG a star SG. I’d never call anyone on the Bulls a SUPERstar.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
maybe he smells his armpits

Telegraph reports that neither Deng nor Gordon will play for GB

Let's fanshot that
I’ll delete mine. The source looks a lot better as well.

The website that also had this article?
I know I’ve posted that before, but I just love that article. Kudos to Lexdiamonds for posting it first.

Two thoughts
1. Clearly Gordon is a me-first cancer
2. Clearly the word out of the Bulls cam is complete horseshit.
"It’s tough not playing. Since I started playing for GB the goal was to get to the highest level we can get to and not being able to play this summer is tough but that’s just life and it’s the smart decision for my health, especially if I’m not 100 per cent to help the guys.
“It has been a very tough season for me; sitting on the sidelines and watching the guys play, knowing that if you were healthy you could play.”
Me first cancer?
Why should Gordon be obligated to play for a country that he doesn’t even rember living in. He speant all his formative years in New York.
Instead of picking up GB endorsements and building his international rep. He is putting in time to make sure that he is giving 100% to the team that saw fit to invest $11 million per to him
Too bad Deng isn’t a “me first cancer” then maybe he could play an entire healthy season for the team that threw 70 million at him..
I figured as much
but since the second bullet was clearly not sarcasm I figured I’d throw some rightous indignation out there just in case.
Hasn't Gar and Reinsdor said Deng is working out already?
I don’t remember if they mentioned he’s playing actual basketball as in applying game like pressure to his leg, but lifting weights is a complete waste of time if that stress fracture just continues to recur when using to play an actual game.
This story makes me think Deng is concerned about putting any game weight on his leg.

who knows
the bulls didn’t even want joakim who is perfectly healthy to play for france. maybe they told luol he couldn’t do it.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
Rose just played in Vegas
and Garj Del Negro PaxFor were all there to see it.

still doesn't convince me that the bulls didn't tell him he couldn't
even though he’s been making progress on his rehab.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
They say he's making progress
Here’s a chance where Deng could test this so called progress and the team denies. Could he practice with GB and not play?
I’m really looking for evidence that Deng can play basketball on his leg.

i'm with you
but as i said, i don’t see this as necessarily deng being concerned about putting weight on his leg, since they reacted so harshly to noah my guess is the org told him not to play… that’s all :)
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
I don't think it's a matter of the org just telling him not to play
There are statements and also quotes from him in the article that say he’s not ready to play.
Deng should not play for any team but the Bulls.
Look you sneeze on this guy and he gets injured. Then the injury lasts for months on in. Deng should not even practice unless a Bulls representative is there watching to make sure he does not sprain and ankle and be out for half a year.

I'm glad Luol isn't playing.
My optimism for the Bulls is dependent on him being back and healthy.
It concerns me that Luol might have played if the Bulls didn’t forbid it. I’ve been a supporter of his, but if he had played for GB this Summer and hurt himself in any way, I would have turned on him.
No big deal...it's not like Deng is a starter
With Kirk starting alongside Rose, Salmons can play the 3 again. Ideally, I’m sure VDN wants Deng at PF, but he can start TT for a while I guess
not a starter?

This is great news!
Maybe he’ll have enough energy to be a factor down the stretch of games and throughout the entire season. And hopefully this ends this string of injuries. Let’s see who the real Luol Deng is. Is he a budding superstar or is he an above average run-of-the-mill small forward in the NBA? I have my opinion, but ultimately we’ll find out. For the sake of all Bulls fans though, let’s hope he’s a budding superstar.

Does anyone think he's a budding superstar?
I don’t think he’ll ever be a “star” in the typical use of it because I don’t think he has the game or the personality for it. “Above average run-of-the-mill small forward” (which seems oxymoronic to me) or 3 to 4 time All Star? There’s not a huge difference to me.
People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett
In the context of the article...
Luol Deng is probably the biggest basketball “star” in the history of Great Britian….so regardless if he is a “star” by our standards, I would suspect he is one by their standards.

Great News
NBA players play too many games anyways. They wear down… like Dirk. like Yao. I’m amazed Kobe had the stamina down the stretch this season to take home the chip.
Thank god!
For a guy that is getting paid what 80+ million dollars he can do whatever he wants, but if if gets injured playing for GB (or misses playing time in the NBA because of something to happen to him in GB) then the contract should be voided, end of the story. So I say, why is this not in contracts to begin with, or maybe it is.
I have zero issues with players playing for their country, just know if you do your paycheck may go up in smoke. That is just way to much money to think you can do whatever you want. I know if I play pickup football or basketball and blow out my knee, I will lose a lot of money when I miss work. It just seems in the NBA, NFL, MLB once you get your money, you quit giving a c**p.
What if he injured himself...
lifting something for his grandmother, should his contract be voided? What if you injured yourself doing something outside of work, should your boss be able to fire you?

O....K...
This is the reason writing on the internet is never a good way to try and explain something.
The main word being used is “contract”. If he (or anyone) had something “written” into a contract and they signed it, then yes the contract should be voided if they break the contract. As far as I know Deng has nothing like that written into his contract, so he can play for GB. If I was a company paying someone 72+ (thanks stupidgenius) million dollars, they would not be able to play basketball for anyone but the team that is paying millions of dollars. Does that mean he “can’t” play, no, but I sure as s**t wouldn’t pay him if he hurt himself doing something he signed his name on a contract saying he wouldn’t do.
It is all about the contract, and what is written into it. Also I never said fire as far as you or I go (I never put my name on a contract), I said I would lose alot of money if I blew my knee out doing something dumb. Also if I did it outside of work they have no obligation to keep me around if I miss months. If I do something knowing something like that could happen, it is MY FAULT, if it is an accident (hit by a car, say) then that is a different story. Everything has to be put in context, and as far as Deng and the Bulls go, I would never pay someone that much money then let them play for another team, just wouldn’t happen.
Actually Deng's getting paid 72+incentives
The article said 50, which I would love.

We can take it from Jerome James
I’m sure he would get it back with some chips or something.
Vinny Del Negro: Possibly the most unintentionally irritating last name in the history of last names [Hint: I can't for the life of me pronounce it correctly].
-Brandon Jennings: PG of the future!
Best headline ever
The Polish NBA star, Marcin Gortat, will probably play in the September Eurobasket 2009
It’s relevant because if Gortat is an NBA star, Deng can be a superstar
