Pretty optimistic

can’t say I agree with it though. The Bulls are going to be contending for homecourt advantage in the playoffs? Really?

ya..number 4?

that would make my year, if we dont do squat as far as trades/pickups

Gee, he forgot the most important factor of all in closing the BG scoring deficit-

the Bulls will be playing better defense because that’s what the Bulls, and VDN, will be emphasizing this year.

This organization is a machine..they try to sale us anything because we are really dumb?

There is a popular commercial airing always on TV, I believe it is sponsored by AT&T playing reference to the scenes conducted in the board room of the “Big Cable Company”.

In one of the commercials one board member refers to their customers as dumb and wouldn’t know what Digital TV was if it hit them in the head..

Sounds familiar?

"I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it."
"Go ahead, make my day"
"We boil at different degrees"
"A good man always knows his limitations"
"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"

Yeah! I can see Dorf in the board room discussing ..

Federal Bail Out! although his Bulls are profitable.. he still wants his piece of the pie!

And John Paxson shaking his head in agreement having not a clue what’s going on…

Rec'd

Mostly because I hope to God it’s true. Makes me very eager for this season.

I for one am really excited with the Salmons-Hinrich-Rose guard combo and mostly to see what Tyrus Thomas we’ll see this year, since while the stats didn’t show such a great leap last year, Tyrus the player improved on his talent significantly (just struggled with the timing last year).

I’m pumped about us….I think Hinrich will be a nice 1 and 2 combo off the bench (even though I don’t buy this he’s a combo guard b.s. quite enough, he’s a PG in this league, not good enough at creating his own shot really to be a real 2, but I like the 2 PG lineup, presuming Tyrus gets his timing down….

I think we can be pretty good next year. 4th might be our ceiling, but there’s no denying we have a lot of talent….

I don't see how it's possible to be 'excited' about the guard combo

maybe ‘content’ is a better word? Obviously Rose is exciting, but Salmons is 30 next year and Hinrich is 29. It’s not like we’re watching some young group grow together. But they should be good.

30's not old

It’s called PRIME, we’re so used to having these 23 year olds with “potential” that mostly flames out or is traded before it hits their prime, that guys in their prime are considered not worth it. Kirks 28.5 next year (prime too)…

Rose is very exciting and will improve. Salmons has had what 2 full years of being very good when given the burn, I don’t see that as a fluke. Kirk Hinrich seems to have left all the 2007-2008 misery behind him.

I’m pumped about Tyrus Thomas mostly. I do think that all this not trading Tyrus stuff is going to pay off…..I know I should bad mouth him like the rest of the Bulls fandom is lately, but I’m not (I also know you’ve been a pretty strong supporter in the past).

I think Deng’ll be back to at least his very good self. I’ve never been a huge Deng fan (never saw the “future superstar” potential that his blog rep—not just here—were saying, but I’ve never thought Deng was a terrible player….and the choice was made with Luol. I don’t see why he can’t regain his form and stay healthy.

I’m excited. I was a big Ben Gordon supporter, but the last thing I wanted was for this time to lock in $24-25M a year on Ben and Luol, neither of them is worth 40-45% of the cap….we chose the safer pick in Deng (but he’s looking less safe because of the injuries) and I think we’ll start to see him creep back into being good again soon…..

It is funny though the first year lately when the promising youngs get paid they have their worst season ever (see Deng last year, Hinrich the year before, Chandler 2 years prior…)….

I do see a lot of hope in Deng, think Salmons will help quite a bit, a healthy Kirk, improved Rose (who I expect will improve dramatically), Noah getting stronger, and Tyrus working on timing will be great for us. THe only guy I expect to take a slide down is Brad Miller, but hopefully we can manage to that by not giving him 30 MPG and only keep him to the 25 MPG mark where he can be maybe more effective for us…

It’s just optimism, and I fall for it every year (I fall into Reinsdorf’s main plan (keep enough “promising” young guys around for the fans to get their hopes up, do little in trades and see what we got)….But I think this might be our best year since the 2004-2005 47 win campaign….at least in the regular season (I don’t know if we’ll be a 2nd round playoff team because of the terrible 3 in the East) and I don’t know with Vinny’s new pieces if we’ll come out of the gate well enough to snag a 4th seed, despite our remaining pure raw talent….but I’m excited.

having players in their prime

is fine if we’re on the brink of contention. we’re not anywhere near contention; there is a huge gap between us and cleveland/orlando/boston. im not even convinced were one big 2010 free agent away from being on that level, nor am i convinced in our prospects of even landing such a player.

Having players in their prime

Is good no matter the state you’re in. Having superstars in their prime is fine if we’re on the brink of contention. Hinrich and Salmons aren’t superstars and aren’t paid anywhere near superstars. Deng’s not even paid superstar money and yet everyone hate’s his salary (and for now given the injuries that’s fine).

We need most to win games, prime players help win games more than young prospects. We seem to have enough depth and enough talent presuming Deng’s as healthy as they say to be pretty good this year.

I have a lot of faith in the talent on this roster. Perhaps it’ll never all mesh or jive, but the talent is there….

If we had Wade, I’d be shocked if we couldn’t really be a contender, look at what he was able to do mostly by himself (Marion wasn’t playing that hard down there mostly being a 3rd option or 4th at times despite having clearly the 2nd best skills, and Beasley wasn’t getting a really fair shake earlier in the year because he can’t defend at all yet and plays in a position where defense is more important than the PG spot too)…

Wade next to Rose-Deng-Noah is solid, add in what I still have hopes Tyrus might be, and I’ll be very excited.

I know the Heat

Weren’t quite as solid with Jermaine O’Neal in tow….but they were still could be dangerous just because of Wade alone…

"if we had wade"

and if we had lebron and kobe and etc… yes we’d be contenders. i dont buy the whole wade’s coming here next summer; theres a good chance we wont even be far enough under the tax to offer a max deal, and even if we can, i see little incentive for him to take less years and less money to come here and leave freaking miami (which o by the way has no income tax).

by Calogero on Jul 23, 2009 12:59 PM CDT up reply actions

If we don't get the Wade's etc

Then at least showing progression with our mix of young and old and having the flexibility might be enough to keep what we have.

Regardless with the talent we have, we’ll get somebody or a few body’s who will be pretty good next year. We might not get the top 5 max folks, but there’s a good 15 players who could help us set as current free agents, and their always are quite a few sleepers that can blossom before then….

We have options, we have our eggs in the max basket, but there’s room to be more than solid in the good basket too. That free agent year is ridiculous.
