RUMOR: 76ers land Kirk Hinrich, Andre Miller to Portland?

For what it's worth, a website called OFF THE RECORD is saying the Bulls may be involved in a three-way deal that sends Kirk to Philly and Andre Miller to Portland....

Star-divide

"OTR has been informed about a deal which is almost done that will send Andre Miller to the Portland Trailblazers, Steve Blake and someone else to the Chicago Bulls, and Kirk Hinrich to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Apparently, this deal will get done if Andre Miller is able to get more money in some sort of way.

OTR isn’t 100% positive that this deal has any truth to it, but thought we would just throw it out there."

So the Bulls

this doesnt make sense, we could have done this with the Boozer trade..
the only reason i was down for hinrich for blake and crap, was so we could get boozer…
we better get bayless if this goes through

Good Point

Faizamaze. Are the Bulls blinking or is this a bullshit rumor?

I’m assuming “and someone else” means an expiring contract, NOT Bayless.

Bleh.

by dogra on Jul 20, 2009 5:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Exactly...

If there’s any truth to this rumor, it would seem like expiring contracts are what the Bulls will be looking for. The only reason to trade Hinrich in such a deal would be to dump salary. Talentwise, that’s likely a step backwards but it takes more money off the books for this summer.

That being said, this rumor sounds a bit scattered.

Hopefully

The someone else is Aldridge returning to the team that drafted him. Boner.

yeah but we only get the big pieces in a trade

so who exactly

is the other someone who will go to the Bulls besides Steve Blake?

If the contract statement looks exactly like the fanpost above, the Bulls org as stupid as they are, might end up trading Hinrich and as an exchange, they would get Steve Blake and the Portland Trailblazer mascot.

But, as mentioned above, Why didn’t we just do the Boozer deal and not ask for Bayless?

I'll take that trade - after all, it is more return than the Bulls got for Gordon.

This don't make any sense to me

If we are going to land Blake and someone else (and by that, I guess Outlaw), why don’t we trade Hinrich directly to Portland? Why would we help Philly to get better?

by bull83 on Jul 20, 2009 6:24 PM CDT reply actions

How much better is Philly getting...

By dropping Miller and adding Kirk? IMO this move would make Portland better, the Bulls worse, and Philly about the same (just different style of PG play).

Both are still kind of average PG's IMO...

Miller has better passing ability and Kirk is a good defender. I’m sure there are plenty of other differences, but it’s not like Philly would suddenly dominate.

I agree

But if we are going to trade Hinrich, it better be for someone worth it or to the other conference. Not to Miami, to Philly, to Milwaukee or other team that fights with you for a playoff spot

by bull83 on Jul 20, 2009 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions

They'd be better than straight-up trading Blake for Miller

And better than if the Blazers just sign Miller away leaving Philly to scramble for a PG or play someone out of position.

If Philly thinks they are 4 years away from something good, they probably wouldn’t have a 36 Miller leading them. Good point Bull83.

Hinrich to the Sixers make little sense…the Sixers want to be a running team. Kirk wants to circle around the key with the ball for 14 seconds. The Blazers are much more deliberately paced team…Kirk makes more sense there.

Bayless is a good prospect but basically he’s a lesser shooting Gordon with better handles. A short 2 guard

No deal unless...

The Bulls will not do this deal unless it includes Fernandez or Outlaw. Those are the “and another player” options. Personally I think the Bulls should demand that Fernandez be included in any deal. Why would we settle for a PG when what we are looking for is depth at the SG position and PF position? Rose will get even more minutes at PG this year and we did bring in Pargo to pick up the additional minutes at PG. If Portland doesn’t like it then let them role with a sup par point guard and no back up PF see how it works out for them this year. My take is if Portland does not make a move then it will end the same way it did this last season.

I think the reality is that the NBA knows Kirk isn't that great

Moving Kirk’s contract for expiring deals is the absolute best they can do probably. I don’t think they are going to get back anyone as good as he is in a trade: he’s an OK player with a contract that really decreases his value.

Anyway, any trade that moves Kirk contract for expiring junk would be fine with me.

And, also, this rumor is clearly BS because the Bulls will never trade Kirk.

by hitlesswonder on Jul 21, 2009 2:34 PM CDT reply actions

I think it's more that

With 2010 looming folks the Bulls if they’re going to trade Kirk only want to do it for more flexibility next year….I think the Blazers and others would love to have Kirk on their team, esp with his declining salary. His contract nowadays is pretty fair to his abilities seeing as it declines and that a player as good as Kirk for the price is probably a wash….not too high or too low. He’s just expensive for our team because we have Rose and don’t really need him per se (though mgmt’s doing what it can to make it seem we need him lettign BG go for nothing).

I like Kirk. But if hes gotta go so the Bulls can be set in 2010, then hes gotta go.

The one player on that Blazers team that really catches my eye talent wise (besides Roy) is Bayless. Rose and Gordon were an impressive backcourt but Rose and Bayless would be downright dangerous.

I'm not disagreeing with you

But I also don’t know if tanking this year is gonna help us next year, and Kirk can actually play, he’s just more a PG than a combo guard or 2 guard…

We still should be able to get a star player with Kirk in tow. Now that Ben’s gone there’s less a real need to just dump Kirk Hinrich.

…that said now if we got Blake and Fernandez, I’d be all for that…

To add Rudy, an Electric, passionate and oober talented scoring threat who is coming off of a record breaking rookie season… AND BLAKE for Hinrich?

I have to think you’re over valuing him a bit.

The stuff over here is much more potent… so maybe I am just baked. But this seems a bit lopsided to me.

I'm not sold on Bayless.

He’s someone I wouldn’t mind having to see how he pans out, but I wouldn’t be comfortable counting on him to play big minutes this year. So great if he’s part of a bigger trade or series of moves, but I don’t think I’d go for just Kirk going out and Bayless coming in – in that particular case, I worry it makes the team so much worse this season than it helps with 2010 cap room. Maybe an in-season trade when we have a better idea of what we’re going to get from everyone and generally how the season is going.

In honor of the dearly departed, I declare July PB&J month - everyone raise a sandwich to the memory of Ben!

by wjb1492 on Jul 22, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

yep

I think the ideal trade, if can be accomplished, is something that brings in a combination of useful expiring contracts and maybe a useful player on a rookie deal.

It seems the Bulls love Kirk and Salmons, so I’ve pretty much given up any real notion of them being traded, but for the record, I think if we were serious about 2010, a Kirk/Salmons for Blake/Outlaw/Rudy deal wouldn’t cost us much in the way of competitiveness next year and would knock close to $14M in guaranteed salary off our cap figure next summer.

That’d potentially let us keep Tyrus in addition to a max player. Plus Rudy.

by Sports2 on Jul 23, 2009 7:19 AM CDT up reply actions

If the trade were Kirk - Rudy I'd be all over it, too

Rudy’s ready to go now, and doesn’t further deplete the team of 3-point shooters. Bayless is still a question of pure potential in my mind. Doing Blake+Bayless wouldn’t even be so bad – someone who can fill in competently now (although I do think it would be a downgrade from Kirk, there’s the 2010 thing), but also someone with potential that might be solid-great down the road.

I just think we have to get back someone that can play real minutes (as opposed to developmental minutes) this season if we move Kirk. It’s the “useful” part.

But I’m not really expecting any trades either, at this point.

In honor of the dearly departed, I declare July PB&J month - everyone raise a sandwich to the memory of Ben!

We should get something back...

In my opinion, the Bulls do not have enough depth to lose Hinrich and not get some talent in return. I am not saying Hinrich is invaluable just noting that right now we do not have the talent/depth on the roster to lose him for simply expiring contracts. That could result in missing the playoffs and therefore discouraging 2010 FAs from wanting to join the Bulls. If we trade Hinrich we need to get at least a backup SG in return or we could be in a lot of trouble.

Kirk is a slightly above average PG, what do you guys expect to get for him. He is a nice player but he needs to go. Blake and Outlaw is more than enough.

We clown on Pax for overvaluing players but now you all are doing the same thing. I like Kirk but his best season 16pts/6 assists still isn’t close to All-star caliber. He’s a nice role player who could start for a good team but he’s not going to get much in return.

So let’s get what we can and move on. Also am I the only one who thinks Rudy is overrated. He can shoot and is athletic but you all act like he’s the next big star. At best his ceiling is being the 21st century Dan Majerle…which isn’t a bad thing but you all act like he’s a future All-star.

in addition to blake coming back. w/out getting a SG back, we’d have rose, salmons, pargo, blake, and hunter. only salmons really is a SG, and since kirk is a combo playing backup 2 we’d need someone to fill his role. we don’t really need another 3 where we have deng, salmons, and i assume johnson getting minutes.

I don't think we are acting like Rudy is the next big star.

As Jaina points out there is a reason why we mention getting Rudy. If we lose Hinrich we have a real problem at the back up SG position which Rudy could and would fill. I don’t think wanting a solid back up indicates we think he is the next big star at all.

Whoa,

I’m not sure who’s acting like Rudy’s the next big star — but they are waaaay off base. He’s a very serviceable sixth man though. I’d like him for a nice scoring punch off the bench. I think you’re 21st century Dan Majerle comparison is a pretty good one.

I’m with Savage23 that the only reason most of the people on here want him included in any Hinrich deal is that we would need a backup SG. And we need to keep our white player quota at par.

Yes, he's ready to play minutes right now, which we'd need without Kirk

And he also shoots the 3, which is going to be a real weakness on this team as it is.

Also kind of funny that C Smoove is all over people for overvaluing Kirk and wanting a “star” – the turns right around and says Rudy isn’t a star at all. So where’s the problem there?

We should totally get Bayless as our backup SG

He has raptor arms of justice!!

Blazers Remain Mum On Miller Rumors

Jul 23, 2009 7:45 AM EST

Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard declined to comment on rumors regarding Andre Miller.

The Trail Blazers, in need of a point guard, have been mentioned in rumors involving the unrestricted point guard for a majority of the offseason.

A number of rumors have indicated that Portland could get Miller in a sign-and-trade with Philadelphia.

LOL ohh Portland makes me feel good to be a Bulls Fan.

After striking out on all the big name FAs this year Portland now focus on an aging PG that has maybe 2 good years left does not shot a great percentage, no 3 point potential, does not play great defense, and turns the ball over. Ohhh that must make Portland’s fans feel good about this off-season………NOT!

On the other hand, we made a huge splash

We got Jannero Pargo!

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

by stupidgenius on Jul 23, 2009 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions

At least we got someone.

The Blazers made it very clear they want to upgrade at PG and get a back up PF. The Bulls depending on who you ask do not want to add anyone until next year. Pargo, while not a very big pickup was a necessary one. We needed an extra guard and we got one pretty cheap and capable of contributing some decent minutes. Portland has been the one since the start of free agency trying aggressively to add some talent to their team and has failed to add anyone via trade or signing. That is the only reason I am so amused.

Sounds like you're describing Rose to me.

Except for the whole age thing.

Yea but he was a rookie..

Dont forget that. Rookies do have those problems. Miller is a vet and is not likely to improve on those. Rose will be a substantially better player than Miller throughout his career. Are you insinuating that he wont? If so you are on some good stuff!
