Hollinger pumps up Chi-town as big FA destination on ESPN.com:

"Dave (wisconsin)

What are the chances the Bulls land Bosh by trade this summer?

John Hollinger (3:34 PM)

They have the assets to do it; the part about Gordon leaving that everyone forgets is that now they also have the cap space to sign Bosh outright after the season. Given the talent already there and the desirability of Chi-town, it might be the leading free agent destination next summer -- even ahead of the Big Apple."

true, the encouraging part

is that we won’t suck next year if we land Bosh this summer. Then again, I don’t really put much stock into what Hollinger thinks (unless it’s a question of stats). But as far as trade/FA rumors go, I’m not sure he’s the end-all-be-all source on the matter.

Female’s intuition and all.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

it looks more likely

that some of these 2010 guys will decide to pair together on a single team, with Bosh being the sidekick to LeBron or Wade. Neither being in Chicago at the time.

That's exactly why we should trade for Bosh now

With him and Rose, Wade and LeBron would likely want to come here. We only would have to choose one of them…

by bull83 on Jul 2, 2009 3:10 PM CDT up reply actions

They say that they don't want to trade

But I believe that if they get a good offer (Deng, Tyrus, plus something/someone, plus something/someone…) they would trade him. There’s a real chance of him leaving for nothing next season and I don’t think that Colangelo is so dumb as Gar PaxDorf…

by bull83 on Jul 2, 2009 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Why would the bulls give up that much?

The grass is always greener somewhere else, with someone else’s players on this blog. Unless it’s BG

by BigforkBullsFan on Jul 2, 2009 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions

There's other guys

Dirk, Redd, and Amare can opt out, and Joe Johnson, Ginobili are unrestricted. As much as I’d love to sign a Bosh/Wade type superstar longterm, there are guys who might sign shorter contracts who can turn us into contenders short-term. We don’t have to build a dynasty, I’ll be happy with a couple years of legit contention.

I actually like the Dirk idea a lot. He’d be such a good fit with Rose and Noah, and for someone who’s been so close to a title, I imagine the Bulls core in place will appeal to him more than the current mess in Dallas or other cap-friendly teams who have empty rosters.

by YaoPau on Jul 2, 2009 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions

you seem to be really keen on lowering standards lately.

maybe I should do the same. love it live.

seriously

we went from wanting Wade, Lebron, Amar’e and Bosh to wanting Joe Johnson and Dirk. And its not like we have some great chance of grabbing Dirk either. Dallas is suppose to be one of the better franchises to play for.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 2, 2009 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

haha

I’m cracking up about the lowercase. I don’t think it’s lowering standards as much as it’s realizing our team is in pretty good shape. Rose and Noah are both awesome talents, better than anyone from the Hinrich-Gordon-Deng group, better than anyone from the Crawford-Fizer-Chandler-Curry group, and there’s either more upside or less baggage than anyone in the Brand-Artest-Miller group (damn that was a decent core..)

Rose, Deng, Dirk, Noah is enough talent to contend. I think it’s a little much to go from 10 years of crap to making the standard “let’s add Bosh and dominate for the next 10 years.” We’re in a fortunate enough position where if we do get a Grade-A superstar, we will dominate, but even if we don’t we’re still in the mix. Yet everyone’s upset for some reason.

by YaoPau on Jul 2, 2009 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't see Dirk walking away from 21.5 million

(especially with a baby on the way).
Mid-30’s Dirk would already be over the 1000 games played mark in his career at this point as well. Not sure giving him a big deal for that portion of his career is a great idea.

by M 80 on Jul 2, 2009 3:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Esp with a baby on the way

Ha, hope that was a joke. He’s already made well over $100M…turning a middling Bulls team back to a champion would only open up many many more marketing opportunities for him….

THE BULLS ARE GOING TO WIN IN 2010....maybe by stating this the positive vibes can make it happen.

by majoyenrac on Jul 2, 2009 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Kidd is on his way out

That leaves Howard, Dampier, Terry, and Matt Carroll under contract in 2010. Opting out means walking away from $21.5 million in ‘10-’11, but if winning a title is important to him – and I think it would be – we’d be in the mix.

by YaoPau on Jul 2, 2009 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions

dirk will be 32 at the start of his next K if he opts out

and while i imagine someone with his type of game will age better than a guard, i wouldnt want to be paying him for anything beyond 2-3 years

by Calogero on Jul 2, 2009 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions

"Kidd is on his way out"

are we sure? I’ve heard reports that he is just trying to drive up his asking price from the Mavs.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 2, 2009 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Then we pair two other players.

Amare and Johnson.

Hollinger has already practically contradicted himself:

andrew (chicago)

I know most teams are lookin forward to 2010….but any chance the bulls try to bring in a stud this summer? Also and legitimite chance that Wade would consider Chicago next year?

John Hollinger (3:44 PM)

No cap space, can’t happen, though they’ll probably use a piece of their midlevel on a fourth guard. I think Wade to Chicago is an interesting potential subplot, but I’m still thinking he stays in South Beach.

I'll take Joe Johnson.

He’d make for a solid consolation prize.

by dakoose on Jul 2, 2009 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions

isn't he basically just a taller BG?

who we just let walk away for nothing? I’m pretty sure JJ’s more expensive too.

by Rose Colored Goggles on Jul 2, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

He's better than BG

Does make more money, and is a couple years older, but JJ’s better….

I wouldn't really have chosen the

risk to possibly get Joe Johnson while 100% losing Ben Gordon….either.

by majoyenrac on Jul 2, 2009 6:34 PM CDT up reply actions

BG for his 26-31 years

or joe johnson from his 29-33 or 34 years? Johnson will likely command a higher price and be worse for the duration of his contract. Seeing as how JR only dishes out bad contracts or rookie contracts, i’m sure we’ll pay joe johnson 70 mill over 5 years

75 million for Joe Johnson.......facepalm

He of the career high 19.5 PER (Ben Gordon’s career high is 18.2). Will be 30 years old come 2010, hasn’t made any improvements in his game since his first season on the Hawks.

Ending up with Joe Johnson will be akin to the 1997 Knicks thinking they had a shot at prying Michael Jordan away from the Bulls, and ended up with Allan Houston.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 2, 2009 4:24 PM CDT up reply actions

joe johnsons overrated

he’s shot 43% from the field the last 2 seasons with PERs of 17.3 and 18.2, and he’ll be 29 at the start of his next contract. If we dump big money on him but wouldn’t dump it on BG that’s a colossal mistake.

Oh but that’s right, he’s taller than BG. Taller=150 times better. Forgot that cardinal rule of 2 guard evaluation.

by Calogero on Jul 2, 2009 3:29 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

rec'd

you are on fire. I didn’t want to waste my time looking up the numbers with all these bland assertions that Johnson is better than BG. The fact that Johnson is older and costs more, doesn’t seem to bother people… oh well.

by Basketball Smurf on Jul 2, 2009 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't wanna rip on Joe Johnson

because he’s a nice player, and better than Ben, but people really need to put free agent aquisitions into the context of a workable team that can play together over the course of a long time.

Having a bunch of 24-25 year olds and then a couple 30/30+ guys is a recipe for a short run if you make a run at all.
