Back Up Plan...
Ok now that BG is gone, do we add a SG to back up Salmons? I hope so...
Some bargains out there for your consideration...
Gerald Green -- I know, I know I keep bringing him up
I wouldn't mind bringing in Von Wafer, Szcerbiak, Fred Jones or Desmond Mason. All except for Szcerbiak would be considered better defenders. Which we are supposedly focusing on.
Opinions please

Doesn't really matter that much.
I wouldn’t want to waste money on a guy who’s not a long-term piece. If it’s a one-year stop gap after we can’t find anything else, fine, but it better be cheap.
No, I’d much rather offer some real money to Ariza to be a long-term piece, or deal for Rudy.

Keith Bogans as a one year stop gap wouldn't be a horrible option. Von Wafer is a decent specialist off the bench
(he really is the ‘instant offense’ that everyone tried pigeonhole BG as). Flip Murray might be okay, but I suspect he’d want more money or years than we’d offer. The rest of those guys suck, though.

i agree
Although I put Von Wafer over Bogans because I think the Bulls will need the 3 pt shooting.

Expectations would be too high... looks a little like, scores a little like , height a little like.. but won't be able to deliver like ...BG
man up!
i don't think expectations would be very high for a guy making $1-2 million a year.

I actually love Wafer's game
I’d be more than happy to see him come here on a 1-2 mil/yr deal. Wow. I actually like that idea a lot. I had NO idea he was an unrestricted free agent. Damn!

I like Wafer
He played for my favorite college team[FSU].I’d love to see him play for my favorite pro team[Da Bulls].
I think we should draft Ellington
What’s that? The draft is over? We got Taj Gibson?
Fuck me.

Also, the Kings didn't offer the QO for RFA Rashad McCants who would be my ideal cheap BG replacement
He’s like BG only a little bigger, and not quite as good. Oh, and crazy.

I agree...
McCants would be a nice fit for this roster going forward…

yes, he's straight up daffy
but he can put the ball in the hoop at an almost Gordon-like level. I like the Von Wafer idea better though. Shit, you guys got me excited about this and it’s probably never going to happen. I bet Gar/Pax has never even heard of Von Wafer…

We need a 3 point specialist!
Thats why Wally sounds good, but I like Von Wafer. Maybe Desmon Mason, What do you fellas think about Anthony Parker from Naperville? McCants would be very nice too if possible. The Bulls will be good next season, & in great shape for the 2010 free agent class (Wade, Bosh, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, Manu, Dirk, T-Mac, Michael Redd, Boozer, Amare, & Lebron)
Our team reeks of last year's Bucks.
What I mean by that is that they saw their mediocre team (who also, like us with Rose now, had one star in Michael Redd) and thought that they could bring in a short-term upgrade to make us a contender. So they brought in Jefferson, found that they still sucked, and finally realized that it would be best to start over, slashing cap space and filling the roster with cheap youngsters to try and establish themselves alongside their star.
Jefferson’s no Bosh or Wade, but all the guys mentioned in this post are at best stalls against the inevitable, which is that this team will need to rebuild (filthy word, I know). On the extremely off chance they land Bosh or Wade, we might be contenders, but what makes us think we have the best package to offer their teams (or even the players themselves once they become free agents)?
I hate to sound so pessimistic, and it’s painful to admit it, but I think we’re destined for the “process” of rebuilding. I feel like I need to shower after typing that…
That will only be the case if we have 2 significant players out with injuries much of the season
And if we bring in a short-term upgrade to play a significant role.
In honor of the dearly departed, I declare July PB&J month - everyone raise a sandwich to the memory of Ben!
I'm not saying we'll stoop as low as the Bucks,
but I don’t think we’ll exceed the 7th seed and another first round playoff exit either. I’m still holding out some hope for the mega-deal that breathes new life into the team, but I’m trying to remain realistic. We’re not in dire straits, but we’re certainly not in a powerful position either.
Can anything short of major changes (and I mean major changes) truly make us contenders? We wouldn’t necessarily have to go to the extremes of Milwaukee, but do we throw our money and hopes at huge gambles like Detroit’s doing? We can build around Rose and Noah, that’s a good start. From there, though, there’s plenty of work to do.
Rebuilding implies that the team was good before.
The Bulls have not had a good team since Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and Jackson. So this will be the 11th year of rebuilding :(

I second the :(
and I agree, the Bulls have been in a painful rebuilding period that has included many “almost’s” along the way. Perhaps we accept it for what it is and go about it the right way, though, which, as yfBb suggests, would be to dump Hinrich for expiring or non-guaranteed contracts and build around a select few. I’m not saying start the process (gotta love that word) now, but, should we fail to sign the superstar, and should we suck from the get-go once the season’s in session (maybe 15-20 games in), then I think we accept the situation for what it is and go balls out from there.
I like Von Wafer
everytime I watch him I think BG lite. We should try to sign him if he can be had for cheap.

I really think Kirk is better than anyone on that list.

Kirk is a point guard.

It doesn't really matter...
We are talking about a 4th guard for the roster…a limited usage role player…

How about CJ Watson or Marco Bellinelli...
We could off the trade exception from the Thabo deal for Bellinelli…or grab Watson on the cheap.

long-range specialist, please
Bulls could really use a catch-and-shoot SG with proven 3-point range. When Derrick and Luol are on the floor together, spacing is going to be a big problem. Salmons likes to dribble to get himself in rhythm for a jumper, and Hinrich is not reliable from distance. Somebody like Anthony Morrow from Golden State would be perfect, and the Warriors have too many shooting guards on their roster – so perhaps he could be had cheaply.
A good defender would be a huge boost, but only if that person can stretch the floor on offense…
