Open Summer League Game Thread: Bulls vs. Bucks
It's a bad sign when your NBA team resembles the summer league team as close as the Bucks do.

watchin on istream planet
15 Chi 15 Mil
Will give more updates for those who aren’t able to view
Better NOT
I hope the refs are better tonight…the bulls got called on a bunch of questionable calls. Yes summer league but still
End of ONE
Bulls 20 Mil 20
Def a better start then yesterday. JJ got fouled driving to the rim to end the 1st. Also Mil is 3-0 in summer play. Good Start.
Taj needs to pick it up. Better guard play for who’s playing.
Misses Shot
JJ missed a long jumper…….not your game JJ, don’t start that TT crap…I don’t care if your jumper’s better….do what you do and get to the rim or find open people!
Where's Augustine?
Nick Lewis…….are you kidding me…..he just got scored on…….James should be in…he lit it up yesterday with 21 pts……
I hope he makes the team and they rid themselves of Gray!
OK
McDonald for Mil just hit back to back buckets….7pts. doing pretty well……..played over seas last year
Bulls 29 Mil 29

Boring
Not a lot going on right now….
Chi 36 Mil 47
JJ taking too many outside shots…NOT a good sign
Thorpe has lost it. These quotes are idiotic!
david b. thorpe: Taurean Green is an NBA player, in my mind. But I’m not sure he thinks so. He’s lost some swagger.
david b. thorpe: DeMarcus Nelson is such a special athlete as a pg. I think he can learn the skill part of it.
wow
I’m not sure Nelson is “such a special athlete as a pg.” He’s athletic, sure, but no more athletic than the starting PG on our team… Or on about 10 other teams…
by Rose Colored Goggles on Jul 15, 2009 6:00 PM CDT up reply actions
haha
“no more athletic than the starting PG on our team” not exactly as an easy battle. you act as if Rose is the norm.
True
but he’s also less athletic than Rondo, CP3, D-Will, Aaron Brooks, Tony Parker, Baron Davis, Russell Westbrook, most of the rookie PGs this year and shit, I dunno.. Lindsay Hunter?
…ok, maybe not the last one. My point is you can’t go around calling someone a special athlete at their position when they would be ranked behind at least 20 other players. Probably more even.
by Rose Colored Goggles on Jul 15, 2009 6:17 PM CDT up reply actions
I have to disagree with your assessment of Nelson's athleticism...
Nelson is a freakish athlete. He might be the strongest PG in the league, and he’s one of the better leapers at the position. His problem is that he’s basically a PF in a PG body in terms of skill set.
Checking the boxscore...
Halftime Bulls 38 Bucks 47
looks like we are getting killed on the board. Bucks outrebound Bulls by 21-13
and Taj has more fouls than points and rebounds combined.
none of our players are in double figure.
"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so."
Holy crap, 6 fouls in the first half for Taj
That’s 15 in 1.5 games!
Their starting bigs: 28 points, 9 boards.
Our starting bigs: 12 points, 3 boards.
Hey, just remember that 12 months ago, VDN was on the sidelines of these games, getting “experience” for the upcoming season. Things have been worse…
I was thinking about this and then it hit me, if men were able to have children, there’s no way i hell MJ would have ever gotten himself into this predicament in the first place, as basketball is his first love and he would have waited until he retired to have kids. Call me crazy, but I honestly believe that to be true. - dakoose
Tajmanian foul machine
does it look like Taj is fouling because he’s too slow? or maybe doesn’t have his assignments right? are some of them bad calls? and didn’t we pick him up for defense? seems like his best attribute is the offensive glass work. of course i haven’t seen one minute of him playing…
There are really only two plays: Romeo and Juliet, and put the darn ball in the basket.
-- Abe Lemons
Only .....
Only 6 points since half-time………NO BALL MOVEMENT…….seems like everyone is trying to showcase themselves….not liking this.
Bulls 44 Mil 56
Thorpe has lost it. These quotes are idiotic!
If you watched his interview yesterday……he’s all about feeding you BS and saying the “right thing” so don’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth. He loves being filmed……..
thorpe is a dweed imo
but i have to keep that opinion on a DL cuz most disagree with my ideology
I was watching the 1995 Playoffs VS the Magic's and remembered how much I hated Horace Grant. Horace Grant - i hope you burn in bball hell
Go Bulls!
I was watching the 1995 Playoffs VS the Magic's and remembered how much I hated Horace Grant. Horace Grant - i hope you burn in bball hell
from the boxscore...
Demarcus Nelson has more boards than any of our bigs. damn
I’m not watching the game, so I don’t know how it looks but our guards ain’t as bad as some say.
Taj and Nelson both has 10 points
"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so."
And the score is..........
Bulls 50 Mil 60
Talking about Jokim coming on at the end of last year and are they interested in Boozer? Talking about Salmons size and Hinrich……
Talking about their experience with Boston………danger is being complacent because of the series with Boston but East has improved a lot so the Bulls HAVE to get better not stay the same.
Talking about Lindsey Hunter being invaluable in the locker room which I like but only if it doesn’t mess with our 2010 cap space….
Sorry
Lightening storm in S. Florida kicked me offline for a few….back but could be gone…score
Bulls 58 Mil 66
Down by 8
Jennings to the line for MIl
JJ only with 7 pts right now…..
NICE
A block from Taj…….fast break with chance to cut lead to 6 with JJ conversion on fast break…
YEAH
Didn't Happen
Still down by 9….didn’t convert and Taj…….missed right under basket…..then the Bulls went cold back down the floor…
Green just scored
Bulls 64 Mil 70
Bulls just fouled……..13th foul……..Jennings to the line for Mil
New Score
Bulls 64 Mil 72
JJ NEEDS TO STOP SHOOTING OUTSIDE JUMPERS…..WHO’S COACHING RIGHT NOW? TT????

I was watching the 1995 Playoffs VS the Magic's and remembered how much I hated Horace Grant. Horace Grant - i hope you burn in bball hell
Coach Needs To
Check JJ RIGHT NOW and forbid him from taking long shots period….ANOTHER ONE that didn’t go in….not sure what he’s shooting but can’t be good.
Vinny……..put your player under notice that even though this is summer league, without playing with other starters, you can build up bad habits and this is unacceptable for JJ. Yes, it’s summer league but lets be smarter and not develop bad habits…..
I haven’t seen driving to the cup tonight as we did last night which reminds me of all the articles I saw about him being not interested which in my mind will cause you to take a long jumper rather than work it inside or make other teammates better…..we’ll see what happens.
Thorpe just tweeted (sounds kinda dirty, don't it?)
that Gibson just fouled out with his 19th foul in 2 games. Damn son.
by Rose Colored Goggles on Jul 15, 2009 6:44 PM CDT reply actions
Very Sloppy
Not very good organized ball played tonight…..expected more…..not going to comment on last 2 min.
Let’s hope for a better game on Thurs. With all positivity included…….what the Bulls have ALWAYS lacked the last 4 years is consistency. I would think it’s more coaching than players but Skiles was able to provide more of that at least since PJackson…..(on defense anyway)….
Game Over…..Enjoyed yesterday’s game so much more.
You Know It's Bad When............
A bulls player doesn’t get interviewed at the end of a SUMMER LEAGUE game.
Bulls 0-2
The games get really boring when Taj and JJ are both out
JJ looks like he wants to mimic Paul Pierce’s game. His handle looks better than Pierce though in transition. He seems faster too.
12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.
Faster than young Pierce or faster than Old Pierce?
Because Pierce from our playoff series had clearly lost a step as good as he was.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
Yeah, Pierce's game is definitely evolving into "old-man's game"...
He used to be a fairly explosive athlete. Now, he’s pretty much a guy who looks to shoot over people or lean into people to draw fouls.
AKA, he is a smart player. (usually at least)
Even if he can’t out run Noah and gets a frustration foul for the trouble. :)
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
yeah, there is no way he is faster than young pierce
he also can’t shoot nearly as well. He is bigger though and has a good handle.
by Basketball Smurf on Jul 16, 2009 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Agreed
I do think “poor man’s Pierce” is a pretty accurate description of his game though. I’m not so sure that he’s bigger than Pierce though. PP’s like 6’8" and not much lighter weight-wise (I would assume — he looks similar in weight).
by Rose Colored Goggles on Jul 16, 2009 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions
he did compare himself
to Pierce and ’Melo. I would be fine with either, ha

My take away (and I'll be honest, I haven't really seen any videos)
Is that Taj Gibson really, really sucks. Man, if only we had Thabo right now.
"4 inches, baby!" --ripped off from Kush
true, but we saved a few bucks
and without that how could we have afforded to sign Lindsey Hunter???

he had a double double!
:-p
10 fouls and 10 turnovers?
He’ll be fine.

Did we give Cedric Simmons this much scrutiny?
The dude was our 26th pick. I am not sure why everyone is putting so much pressure on him. Right now he striving to even be in the league in 3-4 years as any later pick would be. Him sucking isn’t really a failure. He is destined to fight for five minutes a game as it is. I doubt he will foul out based on the time he will likely get.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
i guess people are more pissed
because Blair was on the board, and theyre gonna constantly compare em
"Game 7 of the 2011 Finals.. 10 seconds left in the game, the score is tied up 92-92.. Kobe with the ball he drives in.. IS BLOCKED by bosh, Rose picks it up Runs it down Throws up a pass to Wade.. WADE SCORES! GAME OVER ! BULLS WIN BULLS WIN!"
I direct my pissy-ness at The Man.
Taj can’t help what he is. If he is a + during the few minutes he might play a game I’d be happy with him as a player. Chances are Blair’s three year career before his knee blows out will be more than Taj will ever contribute though. Grrr… The Man. (shakes fist)
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
I'm not pissed that we didn't draft Blair
I’m pissed that we drafted a piece that we didn’t need and he’s almost 30 years old. We should’ve picked a guard if Bulls management had no plan of signing Gordon. Now were left with Pargo getting back-up minutes.

Is it even safe for 50-year-olds to play basketball?
He could break a hip!!!!!!
Vinny Del Negro Offensive Gameplan, Part 1
-When there's less than 30 seconds left in the game, that's me with my hands cupped around my mouth yelling.
"BEN! SHOOT! SHOOOOTTTT!!! WHY AREN'T YOU LISTENING TO ME?!?"
-This segues nicely into my Timeout Management classes - order now!
Watching the SL officiating
it is just brutal on the bigs. The no foulout rule is essential. They call everything.
Taj and Augustine are constantly turning their heads on calls because it’s the farside official that is coming in from 10-15 away to make the call. The closest baseline officials are letting them play.
So far Taj has been good. You can judge rebounding and offense in SL. Augustine looks like a nice player if he had any elevation in his game. Taj looks similar. Neither player gets a lot of lift from their legs in their shot.
DeMarcus Nelson’s shooting stroke is really flat. I don’t know how he made that Warriors last year. He also has trouble crossing the timeline when he’s pressured in the backcourt.
12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

I am not really giving anyone praise or critisism
until they are playing a real NBA game. As you said, the refs are horrible, competition uneven, and teammates playing for themselves. Even then though, I don’t expect Taj to play more than five minutes a game (unless someone gets hurt) so if he can refrain from being a fouling machine during those five minutes, make some hustle plays, get some tip ins, I’ll be happy enough with him. Expecting much more out of a 26th pick is just leading him to failure imo.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
Tip ins
Glad you brought that up. Taj has looked great in this respect. He’s got a nice Noah like touch around the basket. The good thing is he’s following the penetration to the rim by finding an open lane so he’s not boxed out of the position.
12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

It's not about Taj or Blair (for me)
It’s about the fact that we gave up Thabo, a known commodity who could have really helped right now in the post-Gordon era, for what turned out to be Taj. Instead of keeping Thabo, we dumped him for the pick. The pick being a creative way to get under the luxury tax barrier temporarily, and then using it on a player who so far seems to be inferior to that which we gave up.
Money saved? Hell yes. Talent gained? Hell no. Talent LOST.

all i'll say is I hope he keeps fouling
so he fouls out and won’t see time in the fourth quarter

Gotta Love It
Ok, Bulls fans, today’s a new day, a new game, but same players so let’s hope that they will play better.
For me I am PISSED that the Bulls passed up Blair. Thabo is old news and couldn’t score which is what we desperately need right now so he still wouldn’t get playing time. That being said, I think Thabo can thrive in a system where he is there primarily for D.
Ok, to be honest I’m just not pissed that the Bulls passed up on Blair………I’ll throw out a few more names too…….
PTS
DaJuan Summers (DET) 19.5 35th Pick
DeJuan Blair (SAS) 16.5 37th Pick
Jodie Meeks (MIL) 19.0 41st Pick
Marcus Thornton (NOH) 20.7 43rd Pick
Chase Budinger (HOU) 17.8 44th Pick
OUR GUYS
James Johnson (CHI) 18.5 16th Pick
Taj Gibson (CHI) 13.0 26th Pick (but 5th in Summer League in Rebouds 10
JJ is doing a good job AS LONG as he get backs to what he does. He is no Paul Peirce and never will be so he can get over that one real quick. I don’t want to see him tossing up 16 ft bricks…..I can replay TT doing that over in my head a million times if I wanted to see that. I’m hoping the Bulls will leverage his skills to compliment the offense they are trying to run.
A couple of other important points. 1) Yes this is only SL and is no indication of how the player will play with other teammates in real games. However, stats are stats and it’s not just this year, the Bulls have proven that they simply don’t know how to evaluate talent PERIOD. If the 26th pick is not so much about need but drafting the most ‘TALENTED’ player available, the Bulls get a fat F. In the past, how could we bypass Roy, Aldridge and others????……still kills me that we traded Brand so many years ago. I know there are two sides to the coin and people will have all sorts of lame (imho) reasons why management did this or that but no more excuses with me. I’m over it. Why, because we haven’t won shit, that’s why….If they need to fire everyone and start rebuilding mgt., then I’m all for it. Until then however, I’m still a fan…..so let’s go win one tonight. I’ll be posting updates on the game. Peace!
