Not a bad move by the Clips to rid themselves of Randolph.

Full circle for Q.

And a decent deal for the Grizz…they get a legit 20/10 guy to go with Thabeet and Gasol…

So, this means Warrick is now available…I know the Bulls have stockpiled that position, but he is intriguing…

"a decent deal for the Grizz"

No.
At this point I would look upon any deal where one team gets Zack Randolph as a losing deal for that team, especially with the cap space issues. He’s like Larry Hughes, if Larry Hughes was worse.

It's not like the Grizz were going to spend any serious money

I’m shocked they’d take on another year’s worth of salary. They must have been getting close to the league minimum for next year.

We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.

I'd hope so

but looking down their roster what do they have at the 4/5 other than Randolph, Thabeet, and Gasol? Hamed Haddadi? Can Adonal Foyle still play?

On paper

1- Conley, Mayo
2- Mayo, Buckner, Jaric
3- Gay
4- Randolph, Warrick, Arthur
5- Gasol, Thabeet, Iranian Guy

They’ve also still got $10M in cap space if they want to use it :|

Is Iranian Guy OK?

Has anyone heard from him in the last two weeks?

Why resort to name calling?

David Lee loses a possible destination. Hmmm….

man, there's always a team dumber than the last

Blazers→Knicks→Clips→Grizzlies. How does any team keep taking that Randolph contract?

to pretend like they are competing in the NBA

by LoveForTheGame on Jul 1, 2009 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Eventually it'll be over

You know it’s gonna look attractive to the Bulls next year when it’ll be expiring and we have all that cap space that Wade laughs at.

as much as I hate the bulls org right now

its stuff like this that puts it back in perspective.

Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

by BigBenign on Jul 1, 2009 9:34 PM CDT reply actions

Except they just landed a 20/10 guy...

You know, the type of player the Bulls have been looking for since…well, a long time.

I was watching NBA TV the other day

and David Aldridge was saying Dunleavey really likes Zach Randolph. Then this trade went down after the NBA TV guys all thought Camby was the one to go.

Yeah, if you had defended the Grizz by saying at least they pony up the dough

I would’ve been right with you. But the 20/10 comment implies you are giving them props from a basketball stanpoint, which I simply cannot condone. At all.

I thought the Bulls didn't want selfish, one-dimensional players only out for themselves?

I mean, that’s what you’ve been saying for a year about Ben Gordon. Or, is it only selfish players who are short?

you forgot to say 'legit' 20/10 guy

didn’t want to short you a cliche.

so basically they got randolph for darko.

interesting…

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

by Jaina on Jul 1, 2009 9:45 PM CDT reply actions

Apparently that exact offer was on the table on draft day.

Don Sterling vetoed it. Apparently, he either values Q-Rich more than the Darko package, or someone talked some sense into him.

sabotage?

I’d like to think winning is number 1 with the Chairman, but here is Ben Gordon telling ESPN that he is very happy going to an organization “where winning is the number 1 priority”.

I still don’t know what the Chairman’s interests are in owning the Bulls. All signs point to “net positive revenue stream” right now.

yep, hence the sabotage. he only cares about winning enough to maximize profits (aka first round playoff exit)

and no more than that.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

I'm super excited about this trade.

Randolph makes Memphis one of the more fantasy-friendly teams in the league. This will help Mayo and Gay’s numbers, and Randolph himself will no longer have competition for playing time.

Memphis will still suck balls, but who cares about Memphis?

by arjoseph on Jul 2, 2009 8:56 AM CDT reply actions

More consistent and efficient.

It’s a small sample size, since he only played the first half with Gasol two years ago (and year before that was his pre-emergence rookie season), but last year he was not great as the main guy. Z-Bo in the paint should set him up for more 3s and relieve him of the double teams he was seeing last year, giving him more room to slash. His overall point production might go down, but his FG%, 3s, and assists should go up.

That's true, Randolph did help me to a title last year
