Chicago / Washington Possible Trade

I got a lot of great feedback from you guys on my first trade idea. Here's the second one

Bulls receive the #5 overall pick, Antawn Jamison, and Darius Songaila (he's ba-ack!).

Washington receives the #16 pick, Kirk Hinrich, and Tyrus Thomas.

Why?

Chicago: Jamison is still a very good scorer. His defense is appalling, but his contract is actually not too crazy. If the draft goes to plan and Griffin/Rubio/Thabeet go 1-2-3, I have a hard time seeing the Kings picking Harden because their best player is a SG. If Harden doesn't fall to #5 in this scenario, the Bulls could go for the next best available player like Hill or Holiday.

Washington: Washington needs a shake-up. Even if Gil Arenas is healthy, they need another guard to eat up minutes. The combo of Tyrus and McGee up front would be just silly in the shot blocking / jumping impressively high world that can sell tickets. Also, they get rid of Songaila's medium-ugly contract.

Star-divide

See this trade in the Trade Machine.

Line-ups

Chicago:

C Noah, PF Jamison, SF Deng, SG Harden, PG Rose, Bench: Salmons, Miller, Songaila, #26

Washington:

C McGee, PF Tyrus, SF Butler, G Arenas, G Hinrich, Bench: Blatche, Haywood, Young

why would we absorb 2 ugly contracts?

especially if we wanna slay a dragon next summer….can’t really knock tawn’s game, but i like the minny trade better bro……ur gonna have to top that

jamison

is a little too old to fit here with derrick in the future. but kirk to minnie for the 6th is great, especially if harden is there.

and why do all these trades have us giving up so much more, plus the #16?

Or potentially trade the 6 for the 5 or maybe even 4

if it helps us get Harden (who I think would be the our best bet in this draft).

by Diz on Jun 7, 2009 5:04 PM CDT up reply actions

well

kahn should want kirk. harden will be better long term, and kahn seems much more astute than mchale. but they have been bad for so long, and they’re so young/in need of leadership/not paying anybody $$$ there anyway, so i don’t exactly get why he says of kirk’s declining $ contract, “he makes too much”.

they have a number of picks now, so it could be negotiation posturing. i just hope we get something good for the guy, something better than the thabo for #26 deal.

The Kings aren't very likely to take Harden

They are pretty likely to take Evans, Jennings (assuming he creeps into their conscience which publicly as of now he has not) or Holiday.

But, I say that knowing that Petrie likes certain kind of players. It’s really very much a crapshoot at this point.

Also, the idea that they could trade for another immature player to go along with , their Wiz-ockee’s, I don’t know that they go for such.

As far as Washington’s likelihood, who knows? Everything I’ve seen or heard (most off Bullets Forever) is that they want to keep the core of that team together (which does include Jamison) for whatever reason. So, at least it makes plausible sense. I just doubt they think the tradeoff is worth it.

meh.

Yeah, Jamison’s game is nice, but as noted above: he’s getting up there and you are stuck with two crap contracts. Frankly, despite the calls for Heinrich to be moved—-I’d rather see a deal for Amare or BOSH… If not, Kirk is a very valuable luxury; and he can be a big part of the inevitable February trade of Miller’s expiring contract.

Bulls defense is already appaulling

and you said of Jamison …

“His defense is appalling” and you suggested giving up two of our best defenders?

why are we here???

man up!

Sign and trade idea with BG (to Wiz)
by sillyrussian on Jun 11, 2009 1:33 AM CDT 2 comments
What if we did a sign and trade with BG to the wizards for there 5 pick (assuming harden is available).

We give BG 9-10 mil new contract, jerome james and his insurance covered expiring (6 mil) and our 26 pick, to Wizards for the 5 pick, Etan Thomas, darius songalia, and mike james(their salaries add up to about 16 million, with only songalias going past 2010 (he has a player option for 4.5 mil or so for 2011 which im sure he’ll pick up.

Wizards would have Arenas, Gordon, Butler, Jamison, Haywood as their starting five, with Crittenton, Young, and mcgee coming off the benc.

We could have derozan start off as coming off hte bench, and if he develops into a good player, we can easily trade salmons at the break for either a big time player(with Tyrus and whomever else needed to get traded), or we could just keep derozan on the bench for the whole year, and move him into the starting 2 next year when salmons gets off the books.

In the absence of other options

I’m mildly interested in moving up to #5 if we’ve got a “thou shalt not re-sign Ben Gordon” commandment from on high. Harden looks all around good, could be there at that pick,

by Sports2 on Jun 12, 2009 10:09 AM CDT reply actions

So,

the Wizards go for a downgrade from their one good post player and pick up a player who plays the same position as their best player, and we get a guy who is getting old and is owed assloads of money. And Songaila.

I think Hinrich would only leave for a starting role, and Arenas is better than he is, so I doubt he’d be happy in Washington. The fifth pick, unless it can get us Thabeet (which I doubt), is not going to be all that great.

The Wizards don’t need a shakeup, they just need their good players to stay healthy. I am rereading my comment right now, and it has no logical progression of ideas whatsoever, but whatever. My point, in a nutshell, is that this idea doesn’t work.

by T-Boogie on Jun 12, 2009 6:57 PM CDT reply actions

You don't think Hinrich and Arenas could play in the same backcourt?

They probably could,

but it would be a pretty undersized backcourt (like the one we have now). That might not be that much of a problem (Hinrich can cover bigger guards), but I just don’t think Washington would want to bring in a tweener guard (I hate that phrase, but it fits) if they could find a genuine SG, which are abundant in the league right now. Maybe I’m just trying to poke holes in the trade logic, but I don’t think the idea works all that well for either team.

by T-Boogie on Jun 13, 2009 4:53 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not as high on Thabeet as the rest of the world.

I was the same way with Derrick last year. It’s like the guy who sits next to you saying “Hey that new girl in marketing is hot.” And then everybody agrees, but you think, “Eh, she’s just average”, but you convince yourself that she’s hot, they get you to ask her out, the two of you fall in love and end up getting married.

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.
