Official Ben Gordon Appreciation / Maybe Goodbye Thread

With BG possibly on the way out tomorrow's beginning of FA, I thought I'd post this mix and allow people who appreciated BG's Bulls career to discuss it. Don't troll, please.

if he leaves

we’re so fucked.

Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

and if we resign him.. then what?

the dynasty continues?

Not exactly...

Yes gordon was a shot taker shot maker kind of guy that comes in and juices for the Bulls but seriously it was time. Look at the bright side we got D-Rose along with new rookies Taj Gibson and that other guy. Plus Gordon had NO D pretty much at all. Gordon is the best and worst player on the bulls so calm yourself down and look forward into the future instead of wollowing in the past, jeez

In terms of chances

Im pretty sure kirk hinrich has a better chance of leaving as opposed to Gordon…these posts should be saved until it actually happens….just my thought on the matter…(i dont see him going anywhere)

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

Hey...is that your way of jinxing him?

It will be tough to replace BGs scoring...

but with Rose’s expected improvement and if Deng’s healthy… who knows? Maybe this Johnson guy can give us 8-10 ppg, Rose can go up 4 ppg to around 20 and Deng gives us 14-16 ppg that will more than make up for BGs absence (assuming everyone else has approximately the same production).

That said, I will miss the ridiculous amount of excitement Gordon can provide.

Not that the offense was really a problem last season.

And from what I have read, the Bulls are going to place an emphasis on Defense next season.

I recognize that his overall, out-of-context numbers are about even...

…but I don’t know who they’ll find to be as cold-blooded in the clutch as he has been.

It will be the 4th quarter hot potato match.

There will be at least three passes. If not eight.

I think Salmons will start taking them. For better or worse. I don’t see another guy stepping up. Rose, maybe, but without BG there he’ll be getting extra coverage from the defense.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Jun 30, 2009 6:01 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah, I can't really dispute the amount of clutch BG has provided over the last few years

it was either on here or over at by the horns, but someone once said, “if you drink BG7 energy drink, you will grow a pair of balls on your balls.” Simply fantastic.

by Rose Colored Goggles on Jun 30, 2009 6:20 PM CDT up reply actions

I for one can't wait

to throw the remote through the TV when Salmons is chucking up 15 shots in the 4th quarter.

by M 80 on Jun 30, 2009 10:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Depends on if it will be

last years Salmons or not so distant past Salmons. Without Gordon who else should be taking the shots? Rose, Deng, Salmons…I can’t think of anyone else on the team I’d want to take shots in any kind of volume. Miller and Thomas can take the occasional shot.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Jun 30, 2009 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Its not like Tyrus had any problem taking them

In overtime against the Celtics…there will be players to step up and fill the void.

Tyrus pulled that off once.

He’ll have to start doing that a lot more before I start including him as a 4th quarter guy. He’ll have to get off the Bull’s bench first. That is where he ended things last.

"Cold-blooded"?

Don’t mistake how he went out in the Boston series as the summary of his time in Chicago. I’m pretty sure you remember all the times he tripped on his own shoes, flail his arms when his shot is contested well, or general last-shot-in-Golden-State moments he’s had over here.

by NittanyCub on Jul 1, 2009 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah why judge him on his high points when you can judge him at his low points?

Makes your argument so much more valid.

Awesome vid. BG is the man.

Re-sign BG....

Chicago: Where Derrick Rose happens

by Juan dela Cruz on Jun 30, 2009 10:11 PM CDT reply actions

If Ben leaves, who will the Bulls fans blame for the lax defense?

I don’t know how much I’ll miss BG the player, he has weaknesses that just can’t be hidden anymore by this team. I’m going to miss BG the professional. He was a mature guy from his rookie season, worked his ass off in the summers, and happily bore the brunt of consistently unimaginative offensive schemes (though I guess that’s in his nature to be the dog).

Game 2 against Boston was pretty much everything Gordon is all about. He scored in pretty much any fashion, and no matter who was guarding him he knew he was going to score.

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

my fave BG moment

game 2 against the Celts, under 3 timeout in the 4th, Bulls up 5 and it looks like we just might somehow take both games 1 and 2 in boston. BG lighting the C’s up, looks at the camera, gives the BG 3 monocle, proclaims “that’s motherfucking right.”

I may cry if he leaves

i was at that game... i think i took a pic of the scoreboard at that exact time.

what a heartbreaker though.

Damn

No more clutch 3’s and long 2’s out of nowhere. Really, how are we gonna replace this guy’s contributions this year? Bye BG, from a fan who really appreciated your game.
