Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

There is ambivalence, not a consensus or an overwhelming desire for Ben in Detroit. They wouldn't mind having him but the price of 11 mil per year seems high for a sixth man.

Sounds like they checked out Chicago media as their research.

They’ll probably have him for a penny more than what we’d offer him so maybe they will get him for less than 11 mil.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

I think Ben is a pretty bad fit in Detroit

especially as a 6th man. Part of the problem I see is that Ben is bad fit with Stuckey or Hamilton in a back court. Ben can’t handle the ball well enough, IMO, to play point with Hamilton for long stretches, when you consider Hamilton isn’t really much of a ball handler. With Stuckey, you have two shoot first guards who don’t really create for other players. Mostly, I just think Stuckey is a terrible pg.

Vinny Johnson worked as a 6th man because he wasn’t better than the 2 guys in front of him. Gordon is better than Hamilton (slightly) and much better than Stuckey. Plus he would be making more money than both. I think the chemistry would be terrible.

I think Dumars made a big mistake when he committed to having Stuckey as the full time point. Every time I saw Detroit this year, Will Bynum was the best 1 they had. If the Pistons are serious about BG, than they better get serious about trading Hamilton to Cleveland, who I think would be willing to absorb that contract so he could help out Lebron, or someplace else.

Dumars is as overrated a GM as their is in the league. Stuckey, Daye now (potentially) this move. I hope Gordon gets his money. But he doesn’t scare me in a Pistons uniform.

Dumars has a ring

He put together a team that beat those damn lakers. That BEAT Shaq and Kobe.
I wouldn’t say hes overrated.

he also drafted Darko over Melo

traded Billups for Iverson and signed Hamilton to a ridiculous extension. You can also argue he overvalued some of his young bigs as well and I think he overvalues Stuckey.

He definitely had a good run putting together that Pistons championship team. But he had some missteps as well. Maybe I’ve been reading too much Simmons. overrated may be a tad bit strong. he definitely has had more success than the Bulls front office

I agree and disagree

I agree, I think Stuckey is overrated. But if you look at his stats, he almost doubled his scoring, rebounding, and assist rate from his rookie season… maybe he just needs more time to develop…

I agree that he overvalued some of his bench bigs.

He traded Billups because he is an aging star but also to give him a chance to succeed in Denver. Allen Iverson had an expiring deal. Now that his and Rasheeds deals are up this gives Detroit the cap space to sign an Boozer.

Iverson was a good PR move too because hes a popular name to sell jerseys and draw fans.

Hamilton is still a very solid player in the league. He was hampered by injuries this year but he still averaged 18 pointed 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Hes 29 years old, still in his good years. He just needs to stay healthy. He will benifit greatly if Detroit signs Boozer.

Also I doubt Dumars will sign Gordon if he asks for too much… they already have Hamilton and BG hates coming off the bench. I’ve read about the rumors that Dumars wants sign him but teams cannot talk to free-agents until July 1st… I think its BS.

Dumars and Pax are sort of opposites

Dumars made a series of pretty good trades and free agent moves to get his team pointed in the right direction, while Pax turned things around with a couple of good drafts. Dumars had a couple of ugly drafts, and Pax had a couple of ugly trade/FA moves.

Detroit has made a lot of supid moves

and this will be the latest one, if the Pistons pay Ben 11 mil. I take Hamilton over Ben anytime. They need a point guard and Ben is a really bad point guard. I think AI is better at the point than Ben.

The Pistons target tough, determined players

on the other hand, the Bulls really really like Kirk Hinrich. That’s as far as I can tell in their ‘philosophy’

seriously???

the “pistons target tough, determined players,” are you really that biased. Gordon does not work in Detroit.

by Basketball Smurf on Jun 28, 2009 7:01 PM CDT up reply actions

They trade Hamilton if they sign Gordon

The Chicago Bulls.....the more profitable Los Angeles Clippers.

to who?

someone has to agree to take Hamilton. and his 3 year 30 million dollar extension.

bad contracts get traded all the time

they trade him for a big. The insane-o roster logjam is undone. They have Gordon’s prime, it doesn’t have to be solved overnight.

To someone else who has a 3yr $30M they want to trade but at a different position

Actually it’s really only a 2yr deal, the final year is not fully guaranteed.

Dallas, Denver, Houston, New Orleans? They all seem like potentially workable destinations

by Sports2 on Jun 29, 2009 8:18 AM CDT up reply actions

i still think they have more pertinent needs than sg anyway

i don’t think Stuckey works as a pg and they have no interior players. its a weird signing, if they do get Gordon.

by Basketball Smurf on Jun 28, 2009 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I think they have to think Stuckey is going to work out and will give it time.

Stuckey is similar Hinrich (that’s arguable, yes, and I’m not saying they’re the same, only similar). Hinrich and Gordon worked well together. I could see it working together in Detroit. Obviously, I could see it sucking, too, but hey!

People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett

Gordon and Hamilton a bad mix

From today’s Detroit Free Press I believe it is unlikely for Hamilton and Gordon to cooexist. Hamilton clearly sees himself as the team leader. Unless Hamilton is traded I do not see Gordon getting and over $10mil per year offer from Detroit.

by chgobr on Jun 29, 2009 10:54 AM CDT reply actions

yes! they can trade Hamilton!

I don’t get why this position thing is such a huge deal. Maybe they just see a chance to get a really good player in his prime for merely FA cash (and in a depressed market to boot) and can figure out the rest later?
