well.....

this blows..

I'm a lefty, maybe Lou should give me a shot for a position in the bullpen!!

by Chanman25 on Jun 25, 2009 9:01 PM CDT reply actions

Actually...

I watched Taj in the Pac 10 tourney and the NCAA’s and he looked pretty sick. He’s a big shot blocker and really good mid range shooter. I wanted Blair but Gibson is ok with me I guess

Rumor has it Alex Brown keeps Chris Simms' right index finger in his back pocket for good luck.

by HanelucaTC on Jun 25, 2009 9:03 PM CDT reply actions

Ok

So the only reason he makes shots is because he’s older?

I guess they can pencil that in to their schedule then.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Taj is too old

But I guess that means byebye to Ty

by halnat on Jun 25, 2009 9:04 PM CDT reply actions

I'm ok with them

not sure if there’s a trade coming but I’m OK with Johnson and Gibson

by Ashman23 on Jun 25, 2009 9:06 PM CDT reply actions

Which is why you might as well risk it on someone at least interesting.

Paxdorf should have picked Taj Mahal

He’s a 6’11" banger from India. He may not be the most talented player, but he is the nicest to look at. I understand people have come from all over the world just to see him.

I don’t see how either of these picks are a threat to Tyrus, but than I refuse to give up on him at 22.

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Thanks lampnasty for that video of Taj Mahal

I forgot to mention as the video shows that he has a potential wingspan of 13 feet.

by Tyrusmancrush on Jun 25, 2009 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

That's true

There’s no reason a 24 year old out of college should threaten Tyrus’s stay

by halnat on Jun 25, 2009 9:11 PM CDT reply actions

I'm thinking

the Bulls should trade a future 2nd to get back into this draft and steal Blair early in the second

by illini on Jun 25, 2009 9:13 PM CDT reply actions

why...

they just took two Fowards.

by brose on Jun 25, 2009 9:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Because

It’s pretty obvious that there are going to be trades and they still haven’t solved their bulk inside problem

by illini on Jun 25, 2009 9:16 PM CDT up reply actions

i guess

but I have a feeling he may be part of the trade bait…i don’t know, i’m trying to make sense of this.

by illini on Jun 25, 2009 9:18 PM CDT up reply actions

plus

they could get a big baby type steal like the c’s a couple years ago

by illini on Jun 25, 2009 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions

They were just talking about how he needed to work on being more physical though…

Rumor has it Alex Brown keeps Chris Simms' right index finger in his back pocket for good luck.

by HanelucaTC on Jun 25, 2009 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Their not very bright

Johnson is not the most physical player, but he’s very adept offensively. He’ll help, but won’t be a beast or anything

by Jamaicanpi on Jun 25, 2009 9:25 PM CDT up reply actions

True

He looks good offensively but I was hoping for a bruiser inside

ford likes the pick

but doesn’t see how he fits on the bulls roster

I agree

by LoveForTheGame on Jun 25, 2009 9:16 PM CDT reply actions

we have vinny as our coach did anyone forget

no lineup is impossible with him at the helm. this year we could be playing 4 forwards instead of 4 guards at a time

by sin on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM CDT up reply actions

his stupiditiy knows no bounds in my mind

i think we’ll see him play all of them at the same time. or maybe he’ll pick on a different one each week to bench

by sin on Jun 25, 2009 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm so confused by this organization

I guess Blair’s lack of ACLs really was a concern for teams.

Whatever, 2 more underachieving big men on our roster who will never get adequate playing time to develop.

That Steve Nash is exactly the same as Kirk Hinrich, but worse.

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 25, 2009 9:23 PM CDT reply actions

Gibson doesn't have any chance to develop anyways. He's already 24.

But yeah, that goes for Johnson for sure.

We won't be strung along thinking he might be good.

We can go into it day one expecting nothing out of him at all. With Blair we might have, y’know, hoped something good could come of a 26th pick. They just spared us the letdown.

Frankly, I'm totally happy with Johnson at 16.

I just can’t believe we passed up Blair at 26. For a 216lbs pf with a 25 inch stationary vertical? Who’s already 24?

That was insane. Blair is a gamble, true, and Taj isn’t. But that’s only because we know Taj Gibson stinks.

I would take Blair in a wheelchair over any of these guys at this point in the draft.

by potato0328 on Jun 25, 2009 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I think the Bulls

are hoping to trade something to whoever picks Blair in the second round so they don’t have to give him a guaranteed contract what with the injury risks and all.

by Rose Colored Goggles on Jun 25, 2009 9:31 PM CDT up reply actions

IT'S ONLY GUARANTEED FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS!!!!

The non-guaranteed thing is just in reference to before this training camp, they can cut him. They have to pick up the 3rd year as an option next off-season, and the 4th year the year after that. It’s hardly a lifelong investment. If they don’t know enough about his knees and think they’ll learn more by training cmap. p’shaw.

Maybe we can get Ben Wallace back from the Suns

for Tyrus and Johnson since Gar is looking to improve the defense, We’d have to throw in Gordon to match the dollars. This would leave the Bulls with a power forward Vinny the Deadhead would not have to develop.

Will DeJuan Blair go 26 to Chicago? Seems like a no-brainer of a pick.

But even so…Taj Gibson? Please. Ellington was still on the board and he has an actual NBA skill.

by hitlesswonder on Jun 25, 2009 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Of course it should

Teams draft on need as much as they do on BPA. Blair fills a big need for the Bulls and wouldn’t fit nearly as well on a lot of other teams. Not all teams are created equal and so you can’t say every other GM was dumb for not drafting Blair when they might not Blair

San Antonio in particular has made some good picks

deeper into the draft than most. We’ll find out one way or another, but right now this isn’t looking good as far as our decisions go.

by Camry on Jun 25, 2009 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, and in this case it wasn't like he was particularly hidden either.

He would be a big risk in the top ten, but at 26 or even later when SA took him not really a risk at all. Bah. I’m going to bed.

Hollinger had Taj Gibson #40 in his draft rater

saying his age works against him and needs to add muscle if he plans to play the 4. On the plus side, he stands 6’10" in shoes and has a 7"4" wingspan. Doopty doo.

Right now, the tone of the comments here are that this draft was a bust.

However, I’m willing to wait and see how these guys play with Rose. That was ultimately the focus of this draft and the next ten or more drafts, for that matter.
Yes, these guys are tall and skinny and will get pushed around if they try to stick their nose in the paint.
Yes, they’re not Dejuan Blair.
For now, though, let’s just hope that the main reason they were picked is their ability to mesh with the game of the franchise player.

Let’s just hope?

Better than the two talented tall/skinny players we already have on our roster, who have already demonstrated success at the NBA level? And were lottery picks, as opposed to latter-half selections?

Moreover, isn’t there something to be said for diversification? I mean, if Wu-Tang Financial could figure this out . . .
