by NerdVernacular on Jun 25, 2009 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

who on the team is a SF/PF tweener?

Deng’s a SF who can play PF in limited runs, Tyrus is a PF who wants to be a SF but should only play there in limited minutes and Salmons is a SG/SF who only VDN thinks is qualified to play PF despite his inability to rebound even as a SG

Not a bad choice

Johnson’s a beast but still raw in terms of IQ

our future backup pg?

WTF is MN doing?

This reminds me of the Denver Bronco’s a few years ago when they took 3 or 4 DB’s and it failed miserably.

MN will never be good.

Minny has got to be making trade offers as we speak..

That's three PG for Minnesota...

they’ve got to be trading a couple of these, right?

didn't exactly work for the grizz, though

Doesn't sound so bad to me
The Chicago Bulls, desperately in need of an interior scoring option, takes James Johnson out of Wake Forest. He’s kind of a 3/4 hybrid, but will play power forward on this roster. The Bulls are one of the most exciting up-and-coming teams in this league, and Johnson is an excellent fit for them. He’ll be able to play pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop with Derrick Rose, thanks to his perimeter shooting ability and his varied offensive attack. He’s not a terribly explosive leaper, but that’s what Chicago has Ty Thomas for. He can also back a guy down and score in an isolation situation on the block. Solid pick.

That's a good description...

Johnson gives this team a versatile offensive player. He can score inside and he can shoot a bit and he can score off the dribble.

I guess it's a matter of need.

I thought we needed rebounding most. Gar disagreed apparently.

by potato0328 on Jun 25, 2009 8:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I feel like we have rebounders...

Noah did a pretty darn good job on the boards. And Johnson is a good rebounder. He’s no Blair on the boards, but he can board.

We have needed a low post scorer for years!

Duh!

always a great contribution.

Denver gets Lawson. Motherfucker. Nuggets get better for sure.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

Should have traded him for Ruuuuuuudy

Weak draft

Why not trade a mid round pick in a weak draft for a lottery pick (likely) next year?

Looks like all that 'defensive improvement' talk was for naught
Without the ball in his hands, Johnson is a big bodied screener and has an excellent ability to run the pick and pop and pick and roll. He also is a favorite option to finish lobs where he can really use his great physicality.

Defensively, Johnson doesn’t have great off-ball instincts and frequently finds himself out of position where he is unable to provide help to his teamm

or is JJ starting to remind anyone of a shorter drew gooden?

Shorter version: sucks at defense

There are some circs where I think Johnson would make some sense, but I’m having a hard time figuring out how we get to any of them.

ESPN says
The Bulls have wanted Johnson for a while. He’s a good athlete who can play the 3 and the 4 on both ends of the floor. His game needs to develop, but when he gets going, he’s something. He reminds me a little of Chicago’s Tyrus Thomas in one way — he’ll play great one minute and have his coach pulling his hair out the next. With Thomas on the trade block, Johnson may ultimately be his replacement.

Sportsline says
If size-challenged club had to go with undersized power forward, why not tough one like DeJuan Blair? … The good news: Going big indicates team believes it can re-sign Ben Gordon.

Neither player is actually undersized...

they both have a standing reach as high or higher than Griffin.

don't like this guy in general for any team (suns were looking at him too). he's cusp of "bust" on hollinger

rater. under-sized pf. with the team’s defensive needs, i don’t even like it if deng or thomas are traded!

Okay, I'll accept THAT comparison to Thomas...

Their games are completely different, but they are both inconsistent. So I guess in that sense they are similar.
