Adande: Bulls still working for 11th pick
[Note by your friendly BullsBlogger, 06/25/09 3:41 PM CDT: From the FanPosts. Remember, open threads start at 5! -ed.]
We're still trying to get NJ to give us the 11th for 16 and 26 according to J.A. Adande on ESPN... which i am all for. Hopefully the NJ/ORL possible Carter trade wont effect our deal. I'm assuming that we will end up at 11... and I'm hoping that somehow harden falls that far. As unlikely as that is, i just dont trust williams jumper and we need a good shooter next to rose. We cant just have 3 slashers with rose, williams, and deng.

Harden is totally not falling to number 11. They want T-Will... which is dumb.

I just can't see him getting past 7, 8, 9.
There’s a plausible scenario where he does—that they all have a bout of righteous indignation that he didn’t work out for them and are scared by not seeing him live—but it’s not at all likely. If he does, though, I could see him getting past Milwaukee. They’d be smart to take him, too, though and re-sign Sessions and pawn Redd off for a song.
Although, I could also see the Bulls getting all pooey and taking Williams over Harden because he shunned them, too. Luckily, I doubt they even asked.
People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett
How can one possibly think Williams is so much better than what's available at 16 and another player at 26?
Obviously, if you don’t value pick 26 AT ALL.

I suppose the Bulls just don't want two more guaranteed salaries.

11th pick + vet minimum roster filler minus 16 + 26 = ~$0
Or somewhere around there. Give or take half a mil. Reinsdorf could be worried about that much, but if that’s the case, we’re in deep shit as fans.

“J.A. Adande: The Chicago Bulls are attempting to work a trade with the New Jersey Nets for the No. 11 pick with an eye on Louisville shooting guard Terrence Williams, a league source said. The Bulls currently hold the 16th and 26th picks in the first round.”

How is this guy a
worse ball handler? His t/o to assist ratio is sick. Doesnt he have like records for most assists at the school or in the confrence or something? That doesnt sound like a bad ball handler to me, sounds like a play maker.
He's a great passer (as was Thabo), but he's a bad ball handler.

Sorry not trying to keep this going
but i just agree that he’s a bad ball handler.. You cant rack up as many assists as he had and score all the points he did and win the amount of games he did in 4 years and be a bad ball handler. Something isnt right there.
Nobody in college becomes a bust in the NBA!!
-I was wrong about Pau Gasol. I have been shamed. :(
I think he's a decent ballhandler...
His problem is that he can’t shoot. As Bulls4Ever said, you don’t have those kind of assist and assist/turnover ratios without being at least a decent ballhandler. He’s a much better ballhandler than Sefalosha.
However, he’s not the greatest shooter. He improved his 3-pt % this past year, but he’s struggled throughout his career. If we do get him, hopefully the shooting touch improves.
he's not a better ball handler than Sefolosha. Cripes.

I think he is...
mainly because I don’t think Sefalosha is that good a ballhandler. I don’t think the bar was set very high in this comparison.
Sefolosha was a pretty good ball handler. Williams is a bad one.

espn insider
has him as a good ballhandler and potential point forward fwiw
"...but the devil lives inside this kid, I swear it. It rises out of him in a mist, this baby-faced defiant wrathful version of Pat Kane, escapes his bodily confines to perform satanic miracles all over the offensive zone. But there's a difference between
a good ball handler for a small forward and a good ball handler for a guard.
let's draft
more short dribble-good guards then!

still haven't seen anything
on any draft report indicating he’s a bad ball handler – neither espn nor draft express… i’m not a huge williams fan but i don’t understand where the bad ballhandling label is coming from

Dude
Thabo sucked. Couldnt handle, had nice flashes of a complete game but clearly wasnt a complete player. This kid is way better than Thabo… Although Thabo was longer. This kid is way more athletic..
Athleticism doesn't always translate into
productive NBA playing ability. Thabo is quite the athlete…turned pro at age 16-17 if I remember correctly, but that doesn’t mean he can contribute to a good team. I do not like the way this day is going one bit…

Everything I've seen from him indicates that he can really pass, but he can't dribble
all that well for a guard (which is where he should be in the NBA) and he can’t shoot straight.

I've never seen him dribble twice in a row with his left hand.

I personally dont trust his 4 year college career. who was the last great player who played all 4 years at college? and hes a horrible ft shooter. If you cant shoot freethrows you have 0 shooting skill.
D Rose
wasnt a very good ft shooter either nor could he shoot supposedly when he came into the league? Guess what they were wrong.. T Will shot like 40% 3 pts. didnt he? Close to it..
DRose shot 71% as a frosh. Williams shot sub around 60% from the FT line all four years. He can't shoot straight.
Rose’s FT% was 13% better. Williams shot 38% from 3 one year, the other years he stunk.

I stand
corrected sir! D Rose was a better Ft shooter, he did miss some pretty important ones though if i remember correctly. 70 percent and sixty percent isnt really that big. 6/10 and 7/10?
Over a large amount of tries it indicates a trend. 7/10 vs. 6/10 is a bad comparison bc of the
small sample size thing. Over a larger sample size, the differences show through. That’s what happened with them.

And Rose was two years younger, giving him more time to improve.
That’s a small difference in this specific case, but still a difference.

Brandon Roy played all 4
If you are looking for more recent. I am not diisagreeing about Williams, but the 4 years of college part is poor justification.
so? what's your point exactly?

Who says
you cant have 3 slashers? I for one am all for it. Highest percentage shot in the game is close to the bucket. Thats where those three are usually headed..
um
when everyone collapses on defense it wont be the highest percentage shot. You need help defenders to stay honest on the shooters.

Pull up
jumpers for everyone then. Trust me it will work. T will is an explosive play maker who plays a great floor game. Can he shoot like a BG, no f-ing way, can he D up, rebound, steal, block, you betcha… Will he make the players around him better? Worked for Earl Clark and that kid on Sac.
TWill sucks as a pullup jump shooter.

I agree there....
The guy is a decent finisher near the basket, and he was just an okay shooter from 3pt range this year (though certainly nothing to write home about). His strength is as a passer and driver.
If he can learn to shoot, he’d be a good fit. But he’s not really learned to shoot in four years of college, so there’s reason for concern there.
Williams was not a good finisher at the basket.
He was average. The information is all here. He can’t drive either. His strength is as a passer.
People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett
Come on!
If we end up with Williams and nothing else out of this draft I will personally Express Mail a package of poop to JR. So let’s see here…
Cleveland adds Shaq (regardless of whether it’s good or not, it’s till bold)
Orlando gets Vinsanity (ditto – although I love this trade for the Magic)
Chicago gets…. Terrence Williams.
BG is gone and we’ll trade Hinrich for some pile of hot garbage. Hello lottery 2010!!!

They are paying 70 million over the next 2 seasons for Rashard Lewis and Vince Carter
If you’re in Orlando’s position I guess that’s the risk you take to get back to the Finals……but holy crap. If they attempt to re-sign Hedo and Gortat this is going to be a cash-strapped franchise.
That Steve Nash is exactly the same as Kirk Hinrich, but worse.

I heard they’ll go into the tax to resign Turk, who really wants to be there (he might even give them a slight home town discount). They won’t have the money to sign the Polish Hammer, but they can fill out the roster on the cheap this summer. Their line up is going to be ridiculous:
PG: Nelson
SG: Vince
SF: Turk
PF: Lewis
C: Howard
6th man: Pietrus
I’m pretty sure that’s an entire All-Star team right there. Can someone tell me why Orlando can afford to go into the tax and the Bulls can’t?

poor Tyson Chandler
how many times they gonna try trading him?
I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith
Paul is the one guy I can sort of see trading Rose for
It really looks like NO can’t afford him and will chase him away.
On the other hand, if there’s PG in the league it’d be a no-brainer to trade Rose for, it’s Paul. Along with Wade, Howard, Kobe and Lebron, he might be one of the only single players who could make us into contenders.
Rose, #16, and Jerome James? (Has to be post July 1 to meet the salary rules)

but I’d say that the likelihood of us having Bosh/Amare and T Will when the night’s over are basically slim to none. Amare? maybe. Bosh? I don’t think he gets traded until midseason. T Will? Maybe, but I’d rather have Blair or Harden (if possible). After those two I prefer Gerald Henderson.
