HUGE Trade: Vince Carter to Orlando

John Hollinger

Sorry, had to take the call there -- there's a BIG trade brewing --
John Hollinger

Nets and Magic are apparently working on a Vince Carter trade, according to our Chad Ford. Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee and Tony Battie would go to New Jersey.

I wonder

if they can sign and trade Turkoglu for a real power forward?

by JSlakov on Jun 25, 2009 3:12 PM CDT reply actions

why would they want too?

Lewis gives them such an advantage with his outside shooting

by Basketball Smurf on Jun 25, 2009 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Yet such a disadvantage when they don't fall

and he keeps on shooting them instead of driving into the paint.

I like this deal. Turkoglu is gone unless he wants little money.

12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

Why, b/c getting to the Finals didn't make it apparent what they do works?

because

Hollinger says this means Turkoglu is likely gone. If they’re going to have offensive players at SG/SF now they likely could use a defender at PF.

by JSlakov on Jun 25, 2009 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

their owner said he'd pay the tax to re-sign hedo

and screw a defender, jameer-VC-hedo-rashard-dwight would be the best starting 5 in the league

by Calogero on Jun 25, 2009 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions

yea

not saying I wouldn’t do that if I was in their shoes. trading lee just to replace Turk with Carter would be dumb in my opinion. If they resign Turk and Gortat they would have a ridiculous first 7.

by JSlakov on Jun 25, 2009 3:29 PM CDT up reply actions

It would stop very few teams

Vince is going to take a lot more bad shots than Courtney Lee.

12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

by NBA Observer on Jun 25, 2009 6:10 PM CDT up reply actions

But if they let Turk walk, it'd probably be for financial considerations, which a sign and trade wouldn't actually help

I apologize, though, b/c I thought you were inferring that Turk/Lewis at the forward spots was a bad idea

no prob

but if they trade sign and trade turkoglu to a team with cap space, they could get back maybe a PF on the rookie contract or cheaper option. For example, off the top of my head they could sign and trade Turk to Detroit for Maxiel since Detroit has cap space.

by JSlakov on Jun 25, 2009 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

there's their big move to clear space for LeBron, right?

To go along with the news that the move to Brooklyn is getting closer: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4284935.

Is Devin Harris, Courtney Lee, Brook Lopez and who ever they draft tonight enough to entice him, along with maybe one more big FA?

I don’t think so.

Don't forget about JayZ

if he can convince Bosh to go there, then Devin Harris, CLee, LeBron, and Bosh is a new dynasty.

Granted, that’s a big if, but still, no team would be able to touch that team for years.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

by fundamentallysound on Jun 25, 2009 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

good lord

Why not just take that team to the Olympics then while they’re at it?

right, meant to include him. Lopez and Bosh together would be a thing of beauty.

As a Bulls fan, though, it would kill me.

Gortat's gotta lovee that, there's no way they let him go if they're moving Battie

Wow.

1) If the Nets don’t land LeBron, ow.

2) The Magic will be phenomenal. LeBron + Shaq + Williams is paltry compared to Howard + Carter + Nelson + Turkoglu + Lewis. Man LeBron must be pissed.

by YaoPau on Jun 25, 2009 3:31 PM CDT reply actions

anyones guess here

but how does everyone think this deal effects the long rumored 16 and 26 for 11 trade?

by Calogero on Jun 25, 2009 3:34 PM CDT reply actions

hmmmm

please don’t make it more likely if it means williams

they should just take Blair to back up Bosh if they get him.

People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett

or just take blair period.

i really dont understand this trading up for terrance williams fascination.

by Calogero on Jun 25, 2009 3:47 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd like to come out of the draft with both Blair

and a small forward – whether that’s Johnson, Clark, Williams, or whomever – because I don’t trust Luol’s health, and I hope we’ll be trading him for Bosh or Amare.

Wouldn't the Nets just select Hanbrough at 11 now?

Yi is meh. Lopez is their inside threat. They just traded their backup PF that spaced the floor in Ryan Anderson.

it seems expiring contracts are all the rage too

um, jerome james anyone? insurance payments are good, yes?

by Calogero on Jun 25, 2009 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Funny, I seem to remember Kirk Hinrich not being traded yet

Is Steve Blake dead? Did Travis Outlaw kidnap someone? Enlighten me please.

That Steve Nash is exactly the same as Kirk Hinrich, but worse.

I keep seeing that Blazers want to wait until next week so they can use their cap space on Kirk

Kirk for Rudy straight up?

What a day!

This has been an unbelievable day. Carter to Orlando, Shaq to Cleveland, Crawford to Atlanta. Now a report that has Amare is going to Golden State. My sense is that where there is smoke there is fire. Amare will be gone by 6 PM tonight.

I'm going to drink now...

sad that’s seemingly the apparent highlight of the draft night now

Can we all start praying to our respective Gods

that somehow, some way Amare becomes a Bull tonight? Prease?

by Rose Colored Goggles on Jun 25, 2009 5:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I think VC lives in Orlando anyway

He’s from that area and then there’s that state income tax thing.
