Open Game #5 Thread – Los Angeles Lakers at Orlando Magic

Open Game #5 Thread – Los Angeles Lakers at Orlando Magic

Game starts at 7:00 CDT on ABC and TSN.

Since I am too lazy to write a preview, here is a link to the SB Nation partner Yahoo! One:Link - box score link is at that page also at game time.

My fearless predictions – Orlando puts up a good fight, but Coby and Pau show up and finish the series in 5. Lakers by 4.

Go Lakers – Win No. 10 for Phil!

Here is to hoping this season comes to an end.

Then we can get some trading done!

its a win win win for me

Phil Jackson can tell his critics to stuff it.
Extend the series at the least.
If Magic some how make a come back I’d be cool with that too.

I was surprised

That Red Auerbach pretty much use to make the same criticisms

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 8:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Red Auerbach would have to change his ways to win today,

since coaches no longer have authoritarian power over the lives of the players.

I hope Dante and Galante are announcing the games again.

Wonder if Noah will play again this year, or is he too much of a veteran?

Hopefully he gets some post moves and a little weight

He looked pretty good at the end of the season already.

Last year with Comcast I actually saw some of the games for free. I think it was a mix up though.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Heh why are they cowards

I do admit though they have stunk it up here.

They’ll probably hate to think just a few free throws away from having to have a 6 game at the least.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 9:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh yeah forgot about that one

Thats gotta hurt for Orlando. They really had a shot still don’t think the Lakers were head and shoulders. But of course sometimes its chance/luck at times.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 9:50 PM CDT up reply actions

It was..more like

Game 2 a made courtney lee basket. Game 4 a foul on Fisher from being up 3-1 and closing out the Lakers tonight. A game of inches and brains.

I'm actually optamistic

about what the Lakers can do next season even if Odom or Ariza leave.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 9:39 PM CDT reply actions

Naw, they should trade Odom for Hinrich.

I think

Bynums probably only gonna get better and back to what he was early. They need to keep length of course since they’ve been out rebounding offensively this playoffs and there were times where the length definitively bothered teams on offense.

But good thing for them the Rockets keep getting injured.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 9:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Bynum for Hinrich would be a good trade also.

That seems like two seperate dreams

cause I’m still on the fence about how good Bynums gonna be.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Andrew Bynum is a $60 million Greg Oden

I have no faith in him staying healthy for a full season. And they gave him a 60 million dollar contract……I think I’d rather spread that around on Odom and Ariza.

I think hes not gonna be working this summer at least

They need a back up Center it looks like too. Dunno what they’re gonna do with T-Mac and hopefully they bring back Artest.

But I’ve heard some rumors about a trade so they can get a top pick and hopefully Rubio.

I think Shaq was bitter about it longer

if anything. And its usually Shaq bringing up his past on just about everything. Not to say he didn’t have reason to be mad though.

interesting to note

the Lakers are well into the luxury tax, and have several players overpaid and others on bad long-term deals. I doubt they give a shit right now.

But the Bulls aren't close to a championship!!!

(this is Reinsdorf’s evil/ingenuis plan, does anyone think he actually wants to win?)

Oh yeah? Chris Bosh!

The next dynasty! not. I think im the only person on here who doesn’t like Bosh. I just don’t see the Bulls ,Bosh and Championship all in the same sentence. I guess I just remember him being totally dominated by Howard a few season ago.

by SoulEater7 on Jun 14, 2009 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I think if Howard improves his post game

Thats gonna be the case for everyone. And the pick and roll with Turk would be smoother facing guys like Boston.

I dunno who would really be the answer for Howard if it happens. Maybe a guy like Yao. Houston and Orlando seem very dangerous to me.
but hey don’t know how far Rose is gonna go and whos staying at the moment. The post player will be important but we’ll need something around the guy of course.

by Camry on Jun 14, 2009 11:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Howard can't guard Bosh at all

Difference is Bosh is more like a power forward and on a better team he shouldn’t really be guarding Howard 1-on-1.

Don't see the Lakers getting back next season.

They may have won the title but it wasn’t pretty. Give them their props now but they looked like swiss cheese on defense at times in both the Houston and Denver series. They were lucky to make it out of the second round. I just don’t think they’ll get the same kinda year from Odom and Ariza.

kobe and phil retire next year

….thats my prediction

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

by piccolomair on Jun 14, 2009 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Kobe? kobe is going for 7.

Why would Kobe retire? Maybe Phil does because he just passed Red but I doubt it. Although it hard for him to get up out of that chair without his cain he can still whistle. I say they try and two peat but come up short and then maybe he calls it quits.

by SoulEater7 on Jun 14, 2009 11:29 PM CDT up reply actions

i meant after the 2010 season

they go out to repeat next year, but since everything will shake up so much in 2010 (or so i think) i see phil retiring having done what he wanted to do, and kobe retiring at his peak. If kobe sticks around any longer hes gonna have to watch his legacy be crumbled by lebron. I hope that at least it comes down to cavs vs lakers in the finals next year….

Pretty ridiculous to make a prediction when the season ended like 3 hours ago

Draft, free agency, trades haven’t happened yet.

The only teams at their peak that play as well as LA are Boston, Cleveland, and San Antonio. Only Cleveland has a star that is actually still improving his game, yet he’s stuck with a mediocre roster. Boston and SA have glaring injury/age issues.

(ridiculous?) prediction:

suns gift/trade shaq to cavs for ben wallace +.

surely that makes howard and orlando much less of a threat. as old as he is, a healthy shaq means cleveland’s roster is no longer mediocre, for a year anyway. but does it get them past (a healthy) boston?

by marionette on Jun 15, 2009 1:44 AM CDT up reply actions

ah i think shaq on team lebron is a gay move

biz z and shaq on the floor at the same time gives you one slow front court. And all that does is put you in a better position to beat the Magic, but it may make it harder for you to beat other teams that rely on running you ragged, like the 76ers for example. Plus lebron was supposed to be surrounded by shooters so he can get to the rim and create from the inside whenever he wanted, having shaq completely destroys that thought….and i dont know what pheonix is getting at all….

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

by piccolomair on Jun 15, 2009 4:39 AM CDT up reply actions

The only reason to trade for Bum Wallace is his expiring contract, and who has a bigger expiring contract than Shaq?

(J. O’Neal and ?)

Hmm hopefully people don't blame Van Gundy so much for this finals

Also guys who seem to hate MJ need to stop saying that Kobe is better than him. I’m surprised every time someone suggests it.

And I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Shaq still holds so many grudges.
