Some things I believe will happen this offseason..
1. There will be no blockbuster trades made before the draft or during. If we get STAT or Bosh, it won't be until midseason.
2. Ben Gordon is a goner, the only way he stays is if no other team puts up the money he wants to see. And I doubt that happens, even in these tough times.
3. Unlike a lot of the so called "experts" comments that I've seen, I do believe we use both 1st round picks.
With that said I think we get...
2 UNC TarheelsWith the 16th pick, we get Tyler Hansbrough. Blair will be gone, and I think Tyler is the next best pure PF and he won't be around at 26. I think the thing that turned the tide with me on this one was his measurables. I didn't expect him to do as well as he did. I really figured he would end up being like 6'7 with no vert or strength. I think he fits our system, he has a nice j, his post game is refined, great work ethic, and he will bring toughness and a willingness to battle inside. He seems to have the same knack of scoring inside as another former Tarheel, Antawn Jamison.
With the 26th pick, we take Wayne Ellington. He's a bigger Ben Gordon in my opinion. With a chance to actually be a pretty decent defender. If u watch college ball, u saw him rise to the occasion in the tourney after a slightly above average regular season. Sounds like a guy we picked at #3 a couple years back. I see a lot of people endorsing getting Henderson at 16, but to me the only difference between the 2 buddies, is that Henderson plays more consistent D. Ellington has a better offensive game, is stronger, and measures out to be about the same athletically.
That leaves our roster looking like this going into next year:
PG Rose, Hinrich, Nelson
SG Salmons, Ellington
SF Deng, Salmons, Ty and TiT
PF Ty Thomas, Ty Hansbrough, TiT
C Noah, Miller, Gray
I really wouldn't mind bringing in a Dahntay Jones or Gerald Green to add some depth at SG/SF and Robert Swift or Zaza Pachulia as a replacement for Gray off the bench with our MLE or parts of it.
