One free agent supposedly being targeted by the Pistons is Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon, a scenario that would make even more sense if the rumors about their interest in trading Richard Hamilton are true.

Hm.
That is going to make following Ben’s career nearly impossible for me. LOL. Pistons? It would be good for him, but as a Bulls fan I can’t even make that team my second favorite.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
Detroit?
No thanks. Why would he leave for the Pistons? yeah money but they are on the decline and he said a huge factor is a chip. So, plus it’s a dump.
Joe Dumars is relatively competent (though overrated) whereas Gar Paxdorf is completely incompetent.

Dumars gets a pass too often.
He drafted Darko over both Melo and Bosh.
I give him credit for the moves that led to the title, specifically picking up Billups and Rasheed, those were risky moves that paid off huge dividends.

He screwed that draft up huge, but overall he's done a better job than Pax. His team went to the ECF 6 years in a row and won a title. You can't ask for much more of your front office.

Ahh, here we go. Revisionist history at it's best!!
Do you all not remember the flood of mock drafts that had Darko going behind LeBron? No? Then let me show you:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/2003/draft/news/2003/05/22/mock_draft/
http://www.ibiblio.org/craig/draft/2003_draft/compare.shtml
http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/d03/story?id=1572643
Just for shits and giggles, here’s what an ESPN insider said about Darko before the draft:
“Chad Ford, ESPN Insider: He’s the real deal. He’s really one of a kind. He runs the floor, handles the ball, shoots the NBA 3-pointer, plays with his back to the basket, so you can slot him in at the 3, 4 or 5. What sets Darko apart is his toughness in the post. You have to love a guy who has the footwork to spin by an opponent, but still prefers to lower a shoulder and bang. Fact is, Milicic plays in attack-mode at both ends of the floor. The more you push, the more he pushes back. He’s got a great frame. He’ll definitely get stronger. He’ll have no problem holding his own in the post.”
And everybody bought into this mess about Darko – AND THIS IS WHAT SCARES ME MOST ABOUT THE RICKY RUBIO HYPE!!
It’s so easy to pile on Dumars now because of his selection of Darko (much the same way people lambaste Jordan for picking Brown when at least 25 other teams would have taken him too). But Dumars did nothing different than most other GM’s would have done. For some STUPID reason pressure had mounted for people to take this Euro teenage phenom over a guy who had just led his team to an NCAA Championship, a legit 6-10 PF in the mold of Kevin Garnett and a shooting guard out of Marquette who looked to be the real deal.

What does it matter where a player's from, Europe or college?
There’s been flame outs, busts, surprises, and players who’ve fulfilled the hype from both sides.

It matters to Chad Ford.

For every one player drafted from a foreign nation....
…there are at least 5 or 6 USA born players. There have been many more chances for American born players to flame out or be a bust. But rarely is an American players praises sung the way Darko and now Rubio’s praises are being sung at the tender age of 18. There hasn’t been a player yet who came to the NBA out of high school that people didn’t have serious doubts about. It sounds crazy now, but Garnett, Kobe and LeBron were all scrutinized FAR more so that Rubio has been. And you can’t tell me that either of these three guys wouldn’t have scored 6 pts against one of the dream teams when they were high school seniors or rookies in the NBA.
My point being that we should leave the “sure thing” assessments to guys like LeBron James. Rubio is far from a sure thing yet he’s treated like the greatest thing since sliced bread. I kind of like that Jennings called him out. Trust me when I say he only verbalized what all the other prospects are thinking. You really think guys like Flynn, Curry and Lawson think that Rubio is a better NBA prospect than they are? You think guys like Wayne Ellington and James Harden really believe that Rubio is a better player than they are?

Do you want to compare European players to the entire American pool or just the high schoolers?
If we are talking just high schoolers, your 1 to 5 or 6 ratio wouldn’t hold. If we are talking all American players, whether American born or played at an American college, then you’ll find plenty of “sure things” that never made it. I’m still waiting on Keith Van Horn to become Larry Bird. Anyways, I can’t say I’ve seen anyone dub Rubio a sure thing, just that he has great potential. If he was that much of “sure thing” there is no way in hell he’d be getting drafted behind a guy with enormous bust potential like Thabeet or even Griffen for that matter. So, why bother comparing him to Kobe, Garnett, and LeBron? KG and Kobe were trendsetters who were greatly doubted coming straight from high school. LeBron was the surest thing since Duncan. No player from any country or college is going to compare well to those 3.
Who cares what the other prospects think of Rubio? They are not talent evaluators. Honestly, I barely care what the paid talent evaluators in the media have to say about Rubio or any other prospect. I’m not sure why you care so much. If you want to evaluate him, watch some film and come up with an honest evaluation from what you see. But to rip him simply because he’s a highly hyped player from Europe is dishonest and bordering on jingoistic.

Worst case, i could live with a str8 up Ben/Rip swap
Rip would live happily under Rose’s dishes and pick and rolls
I was watching the 1995 Playoffs VS the Magic's and remembered how much I hated Horace Grant. Horace Grant - i hope you burn in bball hell
The worst part about it is
They’ll be calling him the Mircowave 2 or something. Please Ben any other team but them.
Well now that I think about it I do like a few guys on the Pistons already
But I’m not sure about Stuckeys PG ability. Still hopefully he goes somewhere he can be an allstar/
BG's ultimate revenge
By signing with the Pistons, the big rival (even more than Cleveland although they’re more likely to be better or even the best team next year).
