Q&O with Thabo Sefolosha, for those who read french, on the swiss television website.

One of the questions reads like this :

Question from fan : What's the difference between the coaching of Scott Brooks and that of VDN ? Can you be a coach and human/civil in the NBA ?

Answer from Thabo : Brooks/DelNegro ? There are many differences. Brooks talks a lot with his players. Coach and human in the NBA ? Yes of course, it's possible. But not like Scott Skiles, my former coach in Chicago !!!

As you can see, he didn't want to elaborate on VDN being a clown, but felt compelled to call Skiles out. Fun stuff.

This does however confirm what everybody is saying about Skiles (rubs on his players after a while), which is not good for him and I'm glad he's gone (even if it means suffering through VDN's incompetence).

Skiles would probably be a wonderful college coach.

With the enforced turnover, nobody would be around long enough to get tired of him, and in the meantime could feed off of his obviously good understanding of how to shape a team up.

hah, great point

he’s a pretty good nba coach, too. but yeah, just can’t last

So you want Skiles back as coach

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Thabo

doesn’t remember Skiles fondly.

I still miss the sarcastic little exchanges with the media, but it’s not hard to see how the some of the players are happy to not be playing for him.

It is funny how he skipped right over discussing Vinny – and that the one thing he specifically said Brooks does is talks a lot with the players, which is one of the reasons Vinny was hired.

I wouldn’t really want the brutally honest truth about Vinny from the players, because that would mean someone is talking publicly and I don’t see that accomplishing much as far as the team being successful. But at the same time, I’d really love to know to know what they really think. For a guy like Kirk, who never says anything the least bit interesting or controversial in interviews, to say something about only being able to do the best he can on defense with the way the team is told to play it – and Doug Thonus was reporting midseason that the team basically thought Vinny was a coaching idiot….

unless they ALL did it, and especially rose, then Del Negro's gone in a heart beat

of course, that won’t happen.

but if a few players did talk publicly, i’m sure Gar Paxdorf would bring Rose in to ask him: “Hey, is this guy even as good as your college coach? Or your high school coach? We need you to be honest because this is your future as much as ours.”

Well, the internal talk can happen without the external drama

But also it shouldn’t need to happen, because I expect Pax et al to be able to see what they’ve hired. I think he just did well enough that they’re kind of trapped. I’m not sure how you justify firing a rookie head coach that you hired with no coaching experience whatsoever whose team improved to .500 and went 7 games in the first round.

like hlac, i agree

paxson should realize that he gave him a good team that won a lot towards the end that if he (Paxson) hadn’t made the trade, it might have been a 38-win season.

oh, and i agree that the internal talk could happen...

…i just don’t see this organization having that sort of open dialogue between the management and the players.

It would undermine Vinny's authority,

And he is the coach and the decision maker….

I was very surprised to hear from a friend who works in the organization...

that the internal opinion was that VDN did a good job, especially with a collection of assistants that largely disappointed and contributed little. This guy is close to the head-brass, so I think this is accurate info, and he told me this during game 6 so it’s current. I’ll know it’s right if we see a major change in assistant coaching in the off-season- starting with a Del Harris exit.

Now that's just depressing.

Seriously, I think he’s improved from beginning of season to end, and I’ve seen some fairly persuasive arguments that his offense is decent and will be better with added wrinkles next season. He’s not the worst coach I’ve ever seen, or even the worst coach the Bulls have had in the last 2 seasons.

But I’m in a down-with-Vinny phase right now, when I can’t help but focus on the mistakes and the lousy defense and think what might have been with a better coach.

I wouldnt mind anything about vinny

If i actually some some plays being run on the court….the fact that i dont is what pisses me off….and defensive adjustments would be nice

Where are the persuasive arguments?

Seriously. I want to read them.

I really think the lack of defensive discipline is what should do it, though.

Just to clarify, when I say "fairly persuasive" and "decent"

I just mean not total crap, as in maybe I am OK with the Bulls not totally scrapping it and starting over brand new. When I look back at what I wrote now it sounds like I think the offensive scheme is good, and that’s more positive than I actually feel. But this made me think about the possibility that, with the players the Bulls have, it’s not really as horrible as I’ve been thinking.

I don't feel the Bulls are trapped with Vinny.

He is going to be around next season…but I believe he only has a two year deal…so he lame ducks next season, then the Bulls hire a real coach to take the team to the next level.

This is still the same owner who fired his "son" Doug Collins after reaching the ECF for the first time

While I’d love to see VDN gone now, I’d be shocked if he’s back for a third season without dramatic improvement.

Hmm I still kind of see this as

like the Mavs situation with Avery Johnson. I mean they did get to the finals. I suppose they don’t like these old methods of coaching.

We should have Lindsay Hunter be our coach

He knows how to inbounds the ball correctly and all the players love the guy, he’ll bring a smile to work everyday :)
