David West.....no thanks

I see a lot of people saying we should go for David West.  I ask why?  He is a 6'9" injury-prone jumpshooter.  Um...don't we already have that in Loul Deng?  They both rebound at the same rate and Loul plays better D.  Plus West is almost 30.  Why do people think West is a difference maker, he's a good player but are we trying to be contenders or just an annual playoff team?

We got bigger fish to fry than to worry about how to get second-tier players.

Paul and West didn't go anywhere

Why would Rose and an older West do anything with a moronic coach

by LoveForTheGame on May 6, 2009 2:32 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

Exactly

Paul is the second best PG in the league…Deron is better overall in my opinion due to his superior size, D and outside shot.

Right now Rose’s ceiling is where Paul is at now. So if Paul at full strength with West went nowhere, I don’t see how West helps us. He doesn’t demand a double team. We need a big man who demands a double team so when our jumpshots are falling, we can toss it inside so it can set up easier shots for the big man or our perimeter shooters

There are only a handful of big men that demand a double team or that have a true back to the basket post game. Even Howard doesn’t have a post game at all.

They were actually pretty good two years ago.

They took the Spurs to 7 games, and were supposed to be one of the top teams in the league before they fell apart, Chandler was injured, Peja got old, etc. If you look at the rest of their team, their supporting cast isn’t nearly as good as ours. Noah is already as good as (or better than) Chandler, and they don’t have anyone as good as Gordon, Salmons, or Deng when healthy.

Of course Bosh and Amare are better, but if we can’t get them, he would be a great help to our team. And from what I’ve heard, the chances of Bosh or Amare being available are pretty slim.

Thank you!

I don’t know why people are clamoring for David West…makes no sense at all. We’re trying to improve our team defense last time I checked.

Why no...

Chris Bosh rumors in BaB? Wouldn’t moving Deng or Hinrich or a sign n trade BG plus Ty Thomas, TiT, and one or two first round picks be a nice haul for Bosh and a bad Toronto contract (Banks or Kapono)?

by ronmexibull on May 6, 2009 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

Dude, have you looked at any of the other strings?

Bosh’s name has been on every page for weeks.

He’d be great, THE perfect pickup for this squad. But I think it is a pipe dream.

by jmogs on May 6, 2009 11:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Wouldn't it be nice to have David West out there instead of Miller?

and he is 28.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2177

You don’t break up the team or go crazy over him but he can be had for expiring contracts which would be a steal.

Let’s say R. Butler and West for Miller. You’re not giving up much and are adding ammo to an already talented team.

Hollinger stats say 3 more games won by us and -12 to the Hornets.

by J Theory on May 6, 2009 3:22 PM CDT up reply actions

No I would not

I like the idea of David West, but the back injuries keep coming back, so I’d pass.

West’s a better player than Brad Miller, but Miller’s expiring at the perfect time.

Part of me wants to just forgoe next year entirely and trade Deng and BG to the Heat for Jermaine O’Neal….where we could have $50M to make a real run at Lebron of all folks…..

Lebron-Rose-Tyrus-Noah-Salmons-resign Brad Miller-get another veteran with that cap room…..WOW!

But I digress. I do think the Heat would be stupid not to take us up on that offer….though I guess having Wade and BG share PG duties might not work out, it’s a nice risk to take…esp for what they give up. I mean if they fail again next year, Wade’s a goner, and I don’t think anyone’s going to give them more talent than we would offer there. Plus Wade and BG are better ball handler’s than advertized, BG gets too slick with the ball, and Wade often passes to teammates who aren’t ready for the passes (not gonna happen to Deng or BG)…..

But then again I like BG a lot and it’s a lot of egggs in one basket to have all this cap room and not land the big free agent.

You're obviously a logical person because most of your post is well thought out

so what in the world would lead you to believe that LeBron James would ever come to Chicago? It’s gonna be Cleveland or New York.

by Juiceboxjerry on May 6, 2009 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Also if the great LBJ signing fell throguh

We could make a run at 2 of Bosh, Dirk, Manu, Amar’e. THat’s a lot of $$.

Folks haven’t considered Chicago because until Feb we didn’t have much room and were playing the ground up building plan. I would think the international acclaim of MJ and MJ’s history is enough to grab some attention….as is say playing next to the most athletic PG in the league, and perhaps with the most athletic PF (man if he matured) in the league and one of the more athletic C’s in the league….

Just a thought that’s all. THe Bulls fan in me would hate it, cuz I like watching the team and know we’d be shitty with O’Neal in the place of Deng and BG next year…really shitty, but who knows.

Plus all you VDN haters, I’d bet VDN would get the axe mid season for sure next year if this trade happened and you could all be happy.

It's not going to happen

Really these guys are going to sign extensions this summer and get their money. James is not leaving Cleveland, no way. When they go to the finals this year they are going to sit and talk after the season and get that contract done.

Only player we should hope for is Bosh since his org is a failure.

You have to remember what happened to Orlando when they blew up their team to get McGrady, Hill, and Duncan.

So you're against the Bulls gonig after Dwyane Wade?

by tyger1147 on May 6, 2009 4:41 PM CDT up reply actions

I would love to go after Wade.

But let’s be realistic Wade is already talking about extension and it’s Miami. He has loyalty to Riley and they will have cap room as well at the end of the year to go after a free agent. So we can take the risk or if we have the chance to pick up some good players with our expiring contracts why not? The economy is going to present us with some great possibilty to steal players like we did with the Kings.

Well, the McGrady + Hill thing only backfired because of injury issues.

So if you’re citing that as bad, then you can’t be for Wade at all. Simple logic, no?

So it back firing because of an injury isn't bad?

Then that make me against Wade? what….

If anyone says he wants to work it out with his team and work out an extension why wait a year for nothing when you can make moves now to improve the team?

So simple logic says your against the Bulls improving, no?

Of course it's bad.

But Wade is “injury prone.” You said that McGrady and Hill backfired. It backfired because they got injured. You said you wouldn’t go after Wade, or that the Bulls wouldn’t have a chance, not because he was injured, but because of his contract situation.

If you think the Magic going after Hill and McGrady was bad, I don’t see how you can’t think the same of going after Wade, regardless of contract.

Oh I know.

I like Wade better, but James is awesome and younger and well will be better and will get more calls….and well his teammates seem to love him (of course it helps that he’s making them millions) but I don’t se the same fear of himfrom his teammates that MJ had with the Bulls, I think his team really really likes him and knows he’s awesome and will only get better..

And yeah I know what happened to Orlando…..

But hey, if it fell through we’d still have Rose (a likely top 10 player soon in my book with that athleticism and work ethic), Tyrus THomas a real wild card, and Joakim Noah, a solid C as he gets stronger for years to come…..we’re not quite as bad off.

i like having miller

yeah, west is a better player. but i like having him as a true C out there. who’s our backup center, aaron gray? i don’t want to see another shrimp out there playing center for long periods of time. yeah gooden was functional enough at the 5, but i hated seeing it on a regular basis.

True Miller is a good backup center

but he takes to many plays away from Tyrus. I really think Miller is in decline and will start to show it next year. Only reason to keep him would be if we are going to go and sign someone with his expiring money.

His contract will be great in February...

…or this summer… Biggest expiring deal in the league. So don’t expect to see him in a Bulls uniform after the trade deadline. Hopefully he goes in the summer for Bosh (hee hee, as noted above a pipe dream, but one Gar and Pax better investigate). If not, he’s a great mentor for Noah and TT, but will be gone soon enough.

by jmogs on May 6, 2009 11:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Bosh might be the player we have the best chance of getting.

by J Theory on May 7, 2009 7:42 AM CDT up reply actions

Indeed...but perhaps not until February

The Raptors have repeatedly said they are not planning to trade him. That might be bluster…but I think most GMs subscribe to the belief that you don’t let your stars go until it is absolutely necessary. The Bulls will make offers, but if the Raps are smart, they will hold out through the offseason as the economy is likely to send mixed signals (low FA signings, low cap, etc.) and the young Raps could be improved next year making Bosh more open to staying in Toronto.

I hope not. I’ve been saying he’s the guy they should be going after since before this year’s trade deadline…

by Sabonis4Ever on May 8, 2009 3:56 AM CDT up reply actions

My prob with D. West isn’t the injuries, it’s that he’s just a tall jumpshooter. I don’t see how he makes us a contender. Adding him makes us a guaranteed 5th or 6th seed. He’s ok but not a true All-star.

Also LeBron will resign with Cleveland, they can offer him the most money and have surrounded him with a good supporting cast. He’s not going to CHI or NY. So people need to just drop that. Kobe is going nowhere too. Wade may choose to leave MIA since his supporting cast is pretty shitty. Same goes for Bosh.

I’d rather go for Joe Johnson who will chase the $ and Bosh together. Rose/Johnson/Bosh is a guaranteed championship contender.

We have a rising star in Rose, let’s shoot for championships not just making the playoffs every year. So let’s drop D.West talks please. Dude is not a factor.

by C Smoove on May 6, 2009 5:33 PM CDT reply actions

I’d like to see Deng bulk up and play the 4. He could average 7-8 boards a game and he’ll have a quickness advantage over most bigs.

by Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. on May 7, 2009 11:23 AM CDT reply actions

I think Deng would need a dominant center, preferably a physical one, to play at the power forward full time without hurting the team’s overall defense/rebounding.

If the Bulls landed that player, I think it would be a really interesting option. It would open up the offense hugely, make them incredible in the open court, while maintaining the defense+rebounding. I think Deng would be more effective and consistent as a scorer there too, because as you said, he’d have a major quickness advantage.
