The only team to give Hansbrough a private workout is Chicago, although he expects to schedule several more soon. The Bulls had him at the Berto Center last weekend and while there he took a look at the six championship trophies on display at their headquarters

If the Bulls do NOTHING before the draft, Blair isn't available and they take a SG/SF at 16...
…it’s not a horrible thing to happen, as ugly and “too perfect” as the match might be.

I agree.
I wouldn’t be all that upset with a T-Will/Hansbrough draft. We might become the most hated team in the NBA, though, with both JoNo and Psycho T on the roster.

I wouldn't mind him at 26
He fills a void on the team at SF/PF. I mean if we move out Deng or lose Salmons next year in Free Agency, he could be a nice back-up.
However if we take him at 16……Then there is a problem.
But if he falls to 26, we should grab him.

He's way too slow to play PF

SF*
is what I meant instead of PF, obviously.
He will be strictly a 4 in the NBA. Especially after his measurements, which came out surprisingly well for him.

Well Gray is probably gone
I believe he’s a FA this summer, unless we want him to fill out our roster
And ya he might be too slow to play SF.
But we still help at PF.
I mean we basically have 3 forwards on this team Salmons, Deng, Tyrus. Deng can’t make it a whole season without getting hurt. Salmons might leave after this season. And who knows what the future holds for Tyrus.

They could really use a SG/SF combo and/or a SF/PF combo.
They’ll likely need back-ups at all three positions if they don’t keep Hinrich or Gordon.
yfBB pointed out that Gray can be given a Qualifying offer of about $800,000. I don’t see him getting that anywhere else, and I don’t think that’s a horrible price to pay for a 3rd-string C, no matter how crappy he is. After all, the Bulls didn’t play any worse when he started than when he didn’t. Blech!

I dont mind gray
i see him like how sweetney was…both have good post games and are extremely overweight. Although gray seems to be at least trying to work off the extra lbs, sweetney just got bigger every time i saw him…

I remember sweetney coming in during both miami series
and he had a few stints where he scored for us a few times…Gray i think could be the same guy, if we get into a situation when nothing is working we can throw gray out there, he at the least may get fired and is a good free throw shooter, for a bench warmer gray aint half bad at all…

It's sad that Gray = Sweetney.
Sweetney was actually pretty talented, he just didn’t give a crap. Gray’s talent ceiling is pretty low, but he tries.

Well he certainly can do that… fill things out…

I love the fact that he's projected to go so low in the draft,
mainly because he will now should have no misconceptions of how good he is.
According to his measurements, he’s got a good, tall frame with a long reach, and since he’s been turned into a workout machine by the NC folks, maybe he’ll accept the role of coming in off of the bench as a physical presence, in limited minutes. Sort of how Scott Williams and Cliff Levinson were on those championship teams. Come in, do some dirty work, go out. That’s not a bad way to earn a paycheck, and there may be some longevity for him in that role.

There's just this weird sense of inevitability
that’s been brewing for at least two years. It’s like we’ve been in this black hole of fist pumpery that was made, in part, by the sudden loss of Andres. The Bulls cannot be without a fist pumper for a season. And there’s the fact that Tyler is pretty much a figurative black hole himself.
I don’t believe I’m gonna have to watch this guy. And sorta like him.

Although I'd like to add
he’s going to surprise in the NBA. By the end of his college season he was seeing double teams consistently and still putting up and solid 20 a night. He won’t see that attention in the pros.

The same kind of inevitability that surrounded Noah

I was going to say the same thing.
I never understood why Noah fell to #9 when the year before he would have gone #1, but it was obvious that everyone was going to pass on him and that he’d be there for the taking.

Could Hansborough be as good as Paul Milsapp?
I’m having a hard time thinking that he could not be at least what Milsapp has been. He’s got the size, the speed, and the brains to match Milsapp. Does he just need the system and coaching of a Sloan figure to perform in the NBA?
I hate him at 16. Would love him in the 2nd round. Might be stretching it at 26.

We don't have a second rounder
I’m not convinced that there’s anyone who’s a better fit than him at 26.

A year ago, I thought this guy would be the second coming of Mark Madsen. A year later, I have softened a little bit. Dude was seeing double teams every night in the ACC and throughout the NCAA tournament and still put up good numbers. He has a strong work ethic, plays with poise, isn’t afraid to mix it up on defense, and can finish after taking contact. None of this means that he’s going to light up the NBA, but he should be at least decent. What else do you want in the bottom half of the draft? I’m not thrilled at the idea of taking him at 16, but even there who else do you want? This draft blows, so it’s not like the Bulls are going to get a can’t-miss player at 16. As an aside, the fist pumping bs will not bother me if he plays 12 minutes a night, shoots a high %, plays adequate D and gets some rebounds.

Hansborough does have a terrific
mid range game for a big man. He can shoot the 12-16 footer with ease so the defense has to respect it. He can set high screens and leak right to where he wants to go to receive for a jump shot.

After seeing his pre-draft measurements and looking at how he produced in the ACC his whole career
it’s hard to see why not with Tyler Hansbrough anymore. Previously, I figured his much ballyhooed limited size and athleticism would limit him at the next level. Now, we know size shouldn’t be an issue. The only thing to wait and see on now is his athleticism markers (shuttle times, etc.) work out. His rebounding numbers aren’t wowing either, which is what he would be asked to do primarily in the NBA (9.6, 9.6, 11.0, and 9.4 rebounds per pace adjusted 40 mins respectively in his 4 years in college). He’s been a pretty fantastically efficient scorer his entire career, though. 60+% TS in every year in college.

I can't imagine he'd be worse than a 8th player off the bench in 2-3 years.
That’s better than 85% of the picks at 26 (according to wherever Jamaicanpi got his info). I could easily see him putting up a 15-16 PER and a 0 to 1 APM for a few years.

and for that type of production, I agree that's great value at 26.

He reminds me of Leon Powe
Overall, a bit undersized, not explosive, and really unorthodox offensively. But they both dominated as freshmen in big conferences, both averaged 20 and 10 as juniors, and Powe’s carved out his niche in the NBA as a +0 offensive, +0 defensive player, which I could see Hansbrough growing into and it would be big value at the #26 pick.
by YaoPau on Jun 1, 2009 11:04 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
And no knee injuries
Powe dropped because of his knees which are already showing signs in his NBA tenure.
Hansborough’s injuries have been minor with basic recoveries.
