Open Game Thread- Denver vs. LA Lakers Game #5

8pm CST. on the worldwide leader (ESPN).

Last night went well, why not keep it going, since it seems we're all bored and are still watching some basketball. I mean, I'd like to enter next season knowing who the defending champs are. Wouldn't you?

In other news, FC Barcelona won the UEFA Championship, beating Man U, 2-0. I'm not into soccer, but I need 75 words and its the only sports I've watched today.

And now, as I finish up my 75 word banter, I will quote the great Dave Wannstedt.

"If Ricky Williams averages 3.5 yards per carry, and you give it to him 3 times, he should get you the first down."

So, does anyone else want to see Phil Jackson pass Red Auerbach in titles won,

or do we have a bunch of Nuggets fans here?

I'd be fine with Phil doing that

but I genuinely like the Nuggets team, not just Laker-hate (which I also have)

yeah, go Phil

considering most of those titles came in Chicago, we can stake our claim.

and yeah, Denver kinda has a likable team. much respect for Chauncey, i’ve always liked K-Mart (since Cincy), and Birdman is… a colorful character. Melo is aight.

it just sucks cause...

in the summer, we’re constantly waiting for a hurricane to come. if not, it still rains almost everyday. and Marlins games don’t have the atmosphere of a Wrigley Field. so, unless you’re into the beach (which i love, but not to go every freaking week), or clubs (bleh), not much else to do. Miami likes to make itself out to be cultured, but it lacks culture, or a big city feel for that matter. the best thing about it: sandals and shorts year-round. Chicago is a REAL big city. fell in love with it while i was there.

We have a downtown dominated by a breakfast cereal factory and flood damaged buildings.

I have a great dilemma!

I dunno who to root for! :O

1. I’d like Phil to get his 10th ring and beat out Aurabach.
2. I like the way the nugs are playing. And their success after trading away AI. (I’ve never liked AI.) And it’s a great example of the overvaluying of offensive players that is very common around here… (Cough, BG, cough)

by BAB-Bass on May 27, 2009 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions

i dunno

i’d call Billups a good offensive player. doesn’t put up the point AI does, but does everything else better.

we went out for pizza after the game. -dave wannstedt

by BULLieving in Miami on May 27, 2009 9:37 PM CDT up reply actions

sure

and while AI was a franchise player for years, i’d argue that BG is the more efficient scorer. and BG won’t even be our primary offensive weapon, so he doesn’t have to play like a franchise player.

You can probably see by how long I responded to this. So either I’m just sitting hear listening or in my room watching it.
But I have a habit of standing when watching TV so its easy since theres like 3 rooms that are basically connected.

Nene with 5 fouls is trouble for Denver.

by cranscape on May 27, 2009 10:18 PM CDT reply actions

At least he doesn't complain in the press conference

Which is kinda why I’m ok with him doing those dances to convince the refs there are fouls. Cause he does admit when its brought up that he plays that way.

by Camry on May 28, 2009 12:35 AM CDT up reply actions

They won the game. If they lost do you think he would be so gracious?

Phil got fined after their last loss for complaining. They only take the high road when the outcome is in their favor.

see, why can't our coach sub like Karl?

Nene is set to come back in, and i’m betting it was probably gonna be for Kleiza. Kleiza hits a shot, Karl realizes that is the first shot anyone has made this quarter, sits K-Mart instead. or maybe K-Mart had a breather coming and i’m just jaded by VDN.

funny thought

as great as Kobe is, he still can’t will his team to greatness. i’m not sure i’ve ever seen a player in any sport do it like MJ, except maybe Brady, but its so difficult for one player to affect a game on his own like that in football. still, those are the only two i can think of. they just have that killer instinct. they smell blood, and you’re done.

Meh

I have no confidence in Odom, Fisher, and Brown playing this well in Denver Friday night, not to mention Nene, Smith, and Birdman will all play better at home.

I thought the Nuggets could win this series, but Billups just hasn’t been enough of a factor, and he has some bad shot selection for someone who is so universally praised as an intelligent player.
