Around SBN: Phil Mickelson Outshines Tiger Woods

Proof, happening now in a live Chat:

Tom (Chicago): Stacey King has been talking a lot about how much trash talking Kevin Garnett is doing from the bench. I love the passion, don't get me wrong...but should KG be taunting the Bulls bench at nearly every time out? Shouldn't he realize he is wearing a suit?

J.A. Adande: That's part of this series. At this point could you imagine these games without KG cursing up a storm and mean-mugging on the bench?

And even worse:

Adam, Chicago, IL: I'm sure this will be a common question - but how can Robert Horry get suspended for the fowl on Nash a few years ago, and Rondo get away with not one, but TWO flagrants in two games and not get suspended? If the league decides they want the series to be "exciting" and not lose ratings, don't they set a pretty low standard for rule enforcement?

J.A. Adande: Rondo threw Hinrich away, not down, which I think makes a difference. If it's in the middle of the court it wouldn't have looked so bad. But they were near the sidelines so Hinrich hit the table...just not as dramatically as Nash did. I think the way things look has a huge impact on the way things are judged...

J.A. Adande: watching the Miller play at the end of game 5 again yesterday I was thinking, if that was LeBron his head probably doesn't even move, it's an and-one, and we don't have as much to talk about

Rather: Brad Miller's head =/= LeBron's head

Is Adande saying LeBron’s head is stronger? The obvious rejoinder is that if LeBron were smacked in the face and made to bleed at the end of a game, whoever hit him would certainly have been ejected (and perhaps never seen again).

Actually, Rondo never would have touched LeBron.

The only reason this play happened is because Miller is so slow. LeBron has already dunked and made it to half court by the time Rondo or Perkins are able to close.

by arjoseph on May 1, 2009 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

heh, exactly

so today we learned that not only does Lebron have a stronger head than Brad Miller, but if you throw Kirk away, rather than down, it looks so much better.

Top notch!

Yeah, I'm really surprised

at the moronic quality of those answers.

Whenever I read or heard him in the past, I never heard that quality.

Outside pressure, perhaps, or just plain CYA-ishness?

If that's Lebron James

it’s a monster dunk and 1. Your are an idiot JA.

lebron's head would have been about 2 feet higher

hmm… too bad we didn’t have anyone like that sitting on the bench or anything..

So I guess it's OK to hit people in the head if they're not as strong as Lebron

Ha.

If it were true Darwinism, there wouldn’t be things like rules protecting Rondo from retribution. I doubt he’d be the “fittest” except in a world where hand-checks are illegal and he doesn’t get thrown out of games for taking cheap shots.

Slight redemption

Some one later linked to our favorite elbox picture, and JA basically agreed:

But when you see the elbow raised like that, it’s hard to differentiate that from what Dwight Howard did

In one of those Q&A articles on ESPN.com

JA Adande actually said the Noah dunk wasn’t that great because he’s not a superstar, so people won’t remember it. The guy has already cemented Must Avoid status on ESPN.

That Steve Nash is exactly the same as Kirk Hinrich, but worse.
