Now we know why VDN makes coaching mistakes !
And also why Matt (and others, me included) would have liked Karl for the Chicago coaching job (if he had been available).
From that SI article on Karl and the Nuggets (and how they managed to turn around things this year) :
"I tell Pop [Spurs coach Gregg Popovich] all the time, 'Pop, you coach different than we coach. You have a no-nonsense, low-maintenance superstar.' How many of them exist? When you have a disciplinary problem with Melo [Carmelo Anthony] and you have an injury here and you have a dysfunctional personality on your team, that's not coaching; that's managing. The more that we have to manage what I call the de-energizers of basketball -- selfishness, non-commitment, not playing hard, attitudes in the locker room -- you're not coaching."

Vinny has no brain, thats why he makes mistakes, his hair makes the decisions
It’s not about the players.
Derrick Rose colored glasses, gives you a "ROSY" outlook.

Are you sure about this ?

The folicle offense
I believe that’s his scheme, if you can call it a scheme. I’m not quite sure the strands have yet realized what defense is. The thick layer of hair spray has made them oblivious to it, as they’re pretty much impervious to the elements.

I didn't need an article about George Karl's techniques
to tell me that VDN can’t coach

Karl is a nut

Actually, that snip made me like him more.
I’m a little surprised he’d go out and pretty openly say that about his players, but I’m guessing either they don’t read the papers much or he’s already written off having any sort of useful relationship with them.

In the whole write-up he is quite open and honest.
And it reads like being that way with Nene and Anthony in particular has changed their relationships for the better.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!

not a big fan of Karl
he always looks like he’s one Tums away from puking on the bench
..on 2/18/09, Noc was gone..and on the next day, Larry "The Chucker" was just a bad dream...

I like that quote and he has to
’’manage’’ more than anyone else in the NBA. With the Sonics I think he did more coaching.
but yeah thats a great quote.

The interview with Karl helps magnify what it takes to be a good NBA coach.
Leadership, teaching skills, especially on the defensive end, experience, ability to make adjustments on the fly, and respect of the players who are able to spot a coach who is faking it and will quickly tune him out.
Unfortunately, Vinny is grossly deficient in all these categories and the sooner that Pax acknowledges what all the fans already know “THAT HE IS IN WAY OVER HIS HEAD” the sooner this ship can be righted and the team can have success. If things remain the same (to save salary) our incompetent captain will continue to head it straight into the inevitble iceburg and no superstar free agents will be interested in making the voyage to nowhere in 2009 or 2010 on the SS Bullcrap.
If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Adults versus Kids
Nice argument from Karl. I am surprised he’s so willing to talk about this own guys like this, but perhaps that’s Karl just growing older and having Billups on the roster now. How much ‘management’ is off Karl’s plate and now something Billups can handle?
