Some Ridiculous Statistics from the Bulls-Celtics Series
When the Celtics defeated the Bulls 106-104 in overtime yesterday, it was the third overtime game of the series, marking the first time an NBA playoff series has gone to the extra period three times.
A record third overtime game underscores just how close this series has been. Now, forget for a moment, that Game Three of this series ever happened. If you throw out that joke of a game, the statistics between the two teams in the close games are remarkably similar. Here are some fun facts to back it up:
Total Points: Bulls 445, Celtics 445
Field Goal Percentage: Bulls 45.2%, Celtics 44.7%
Three-Pointers Made: Bulls 26, Celtics 27
Three-Pointers Attempted: Bulls 72, Celtics 71
Total Rebounds: Bulls 188, Celtics 186
Assists: Bulls 81, Celtics 85
Steals: Bulls 28, Celtics 32
Turnovers: Bulls 55, Celtics 53
It's always amazing how after playing basketball for 48 minutes or more, teams can have the exact same number of points. The Bulls and Celtics have scored the exact same number of points in 212 minutes of play!

Boston is one of the worst teams at taking care of the ball
Have been all season.
That Steve Nash is exactly the same as Kirk Hinrich, but worse.

I just looked up win shares. They theoretically add up right?
Gordon = 0.7 (277)
Noah = 0.7 (195)
Hinrich = 0.5 (139)
Salmons = 0.2 (211)
Rose = 0.1 (211)
Thomas = 0.1 (140)
Miller = (-0.1) (123)
That’s close to 2. Not a horrible minutes distribution. Theoretically, Rose should play less, Hinrich more; Thomas more, Miller less.

But Miller's plus-minus is so huge!

That's what happens when you play heaps of minutes against Brian Scalabrine and Mikki Moore
and when Rondo is resting and the Celtics are relying on Marbury.
I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more Tyrus.

More Tyrus?
Or less Miller, which just so happens to end up as more Tyrus?
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
