To lift everybody's spirits a little:

Here is what I wrote in a fanpost on March 6th before our game with the Bucks:
“Despite how atrocious this team has been at times, getting into the playoffs would be good experience for the young players even if we get raped by the Cavs/Celtics.”

Imagine if we were completely healthy, had a better coach, and more playoff experience. Well all of that could happen next year.

Those are big IFs

If Deng is healthy, if we fire Vinny and hire a better coach, if we resign Gordon, if Rose and Noah work hard in the offseason, there’s no doubt we would be way better… at least a 4th seed.

im out of words

this sucks. usually i can at least direct my anger at vdn or the officials after a game, but i cant even do that tonight (neither vdn or the officials were perfect, but they were good enough). we just blew it. fuck

Not sure if I'm just being a homer or if anyone else notices it

but seems like anytime Rondo drives, and there’s minimal/incidental/no contact, he’s getting the whistle — so frustrating… he’s definitely an exceptional talent and extremely quick, not to take anything away from him, but sometimes it seems like he’s just falling down and knows he’s going to get a call

2nd off, I have not lived in bolingbrook for years.

by Illini0509 on Apr 28, 2009 10:23 PM CDT reply actions

it seems to me he's getting some calls that rose isn't

rondo is also much better at selling it than rose though, and while that shouldn’t really be a factor, the fact of the matter is that officials are human and it’s obviously going to matter. really about the only non call on rose that got me really worked up tongiht was when perkins fouled him 3 times on that offensive board in OT. overall i thought the officiating was fine tonight though; they made a few bad calls, but that’s gonna happen every game and they made mistakes on each side.

by Calogero on Apr 28, 2009 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I think that prettymuch sums it up

these veteran teams/coaches milk the refs for all they’re worth… Pierce and Doc calling for 3 shots at the end of the game? The look of disbelief on Pierce’s face when Miller was hacked… the teams that know how to milk it end up getting the calls

I typically only follow the Bulls, but it seems like the consensus is that the NBA has the worst officiating of all the major sports…

nba refs do get a bad rap

and a good amount is deserved, but i also think that hands down, refs in the nba have the toughest job of any professional sport. really, i think the only nba refs who are heinously bad are bennett salvatore, violet palmer, dick bavetta, and eddie f. rush. they all obviously make mistakes, but the nba is so difficult to officiate. so id say yes they probably are the worst in pro sports, but they also have by far the toughest job

i also wathc a fair amount of college bball and the officiating gets just as many complaints there. its just the nature of modern basketball; there are so many big, physical, incredible athletes playing the game that its a really tough sport to officiate

by Calogero on Apr 28, 2009 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah that makes sense

and i agree that its just as bad on the college level, as a follower of big ten basketball, the free throw disparities for home and away are staggering… i guess they do deserve some slack, its a tough job with the fans so close to the stadium and the action occurring so quickly/required attention to detail…

I disagree...

they stink. They need to get younger guys in who don’t need Harry Caray glasses to see. Dick Bavetta can barely walk, he should get his ass out on the golf course.

The Tim Donaghy scandal. I still think there’s more of that going on.

I agree with you on the heinously bad ones, so why are they always the ones in the playoffs?

More nervous about Game 6 than Game 7

3 games in Boston … three crazy close games. If the guys win Game 6, they will have no fear and no pressure in Game 7.

Just need to beat experience with talent.

I don't care who they are

If you’re in a game 7, there is pressure

by Option27 on Apr 28, 2009 10:31 PM CDT up reply actions

well obviously there's pressure

but I would say game 6 and game 7 are equal in terms of pressure for the Bulls. If they lose, they go home

by LoveForTheGame on Apr 28, 2009 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Every game should be treated as do or die in the playoffs....

because if Boston relaxes for even a minute, the Bulls will stick to ’em and vice versa. Something can happen that could be a turning point in the series in which the momentum swings to Bulls for good.

by 949CubsFan on Apr 30, 2009 4:01 PM CDT up reply actions

wow!

Im so exhausted I could see this going 7 games. Lets hope. However Im at the point right now where Im proud of this team even though they have made some mistakes but they have given Boston everything and more they can handle. However Boston isn’t letting go. Im just at the point now where I will just be happy no matter what.

If Boston does win the will have taken a huge beating and I can’t see them advancing. Even with KG.

going into Bulls playoff lock down..now!

How about a tooth for a tooth in the next game?

I hope that if the Bulls get called for a lot of fouls they at least make them real ones. And fishhook a few Celtics since it is legal now. Rondo would have had to climb up Millers back to go for the ball. He was no where near going for the ball. If it is the final seconds of a game feel free to decapitate the guy with the ball. The NBA gives that a big thumbs up.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

agreed

rondo’s hand was a good 3 feet away from the ball

by torch on Apr 28, 2009 10:42 PM CDT up reply actions

if miller took that same swipe at rondo

is he suspended for game 6? that’s probably not a fair question, just frustrated…

Rondo might be dead if Miller did that.

Rondo is just the tooth fairy. Miller would be more like the grim reaper.

Did you hear Miller's comments after the game?

It sounded to me like he would get revenge tonight(I am reading between the lines).
