breaking news: hell just froze over
"I want the pressure...I want it and I feed off of it. Whenever I get the ball in my hand, I calm down." Air Force One
Celtics turned it on, and Bulls choked.
Just after turning on the TV, I saw Wade, Hoiberg, and some other guy....

We resorted to January Bulls basketball.
What happened to making the extra pass, trusting our ROY point guard, and showing no fear?
umm...i thought derrick had the ball in his hands a lot today
he tried doing a lot of things by himself and it didn’t work out. He had some good dishes, but too many turnovers to be effective.

Yeah I was just thinking that
This is strangely reminiscent of January Bulls.
I just thought he was off too he got to the rim and all that. But the pressure was good and some guys were just fumbling and missing shots.
Joakim Noah was the only Bull who played worth a shit tonight
I was impressed with his hustle, even in the 2nd half after the game was essentially over. Everyone else was awful. Talk about a reality check.
Why resort to name calling?

I thought Joakim was eh...
but he was better than a lot of the other players out there tonight. He wasn’t very good defensively tonight. He kept on coming out to the three point line to double someone leaving the paint open. He doesn’t have the foot speed to get back on defense and that’s how the Celtics hurt us so much. I think it’s more of VDN telling Joakim to do this, so I don’t entirely blame it on him, but he needs to do better getting back on defense. And also Joakim trying to trap at the other end of the court leaves the bulls vulnerable to quick tranisition baskets.

well
you gotta doubule pierce in those situations. I didn’t understand the whole trap thing either.

at the beginning of the game...it wasn't even pierce they were doubling...
it was kendrick perkins. and I don’t think Noah should be the one doubling on the perimeter anyway…it either causes a switch that leads to a bad matchup or an easy pass to one of boston’s big men for an easy shot.

That's not Noah,
that’s our coach
Joakim Noah: Better than you.
Four Factors Post-Mortem:
The Bulls actually won the offensive rebounding battle grabbing 34.1% of their misses, the C’s grabbed just 21.1% of their misses. The problem was that the Bulls had a lot more misses. Bulls eFG% was a terrible 43.1% to the Celtics 55.7%.
The Bulls got to the line 27 times, but missed 10 FTs, so they only made 17. The C’s only got to the line 24 times, but they made 19 of theirs.
But if the story in Game 2 was the Bulls getting pounded on the glass, tonight the story of the game was Bulls inability to hang onto the damned ball. 23.4% of the Bulls’ possessions ended in turnovers, to just 13.8% for the Celtics. All those turnovers led to easy buckets for the Celtics, which in turn made it so the Bulls couldn’t get out and run themselves, which is the only way they stand a chance against this Celtics team. They have to run them off the floor at every chance – you can’t do that if you can’t get stops.
The reason that the Bulls need to run to win is because their half-court offense is just terrible. Tons and tons of playground 1 on 1 basketball. Salmons was a really bad culprit for selfish one on one ball, Kirk has some bad shots as well [some of which went in]. Ben’s jumper was ice cold in the first half – he was a little better in the second half, but when he has a bad shooting night, it really kills the Bulls because he offers so little in the rest of the game. Rose had a ridiculous number of turnovers, he turned it over more than I can ever remember him turning it over in any game this year (7 in the game). Salmons was the next biggest TO culprit with 4 and then came Brad who had 3 TOs in just 18 minutes(!) He’s been really bad this series, especially because his jumper has been largely MIA.
Noah was only charged with 1 turnover, but I distinctly remember him having butter fingers on several different plays that resulted in the C’s gaining possession, so maybe some of Derrick’s TOs were really chargeable to Noah.
Pretty much everything went wrong for the Bulls, and all three of the Celtics most important players (Pierce, Allen, and Rondo played well). Not to mention guys like Marbury and Big Baby were playing well, just bad times all the way around.
Also, someone needs to send John Salmons the memo to stop jumping on all of Pierce’s upfakes. His defense was horrible. People were crediting Salmons for slowing Pierce in game one, but as tyger suggested (I agreed with him), Pierce’s play was more Pierce just being in a funk than anything Salmons was doing. Pierce got it going today and Salmons was exposed.
Tyrus did not do much to help his case for minutes over Brad tonight. He lost his cool and shoved Davis, and just looked rattled pretty much all game – aside from his monstrous dunk to start the game. He did hit the boards, though, which is a little encouraging (8 boards in 27 minutes).
Fire Vinny.

Even with it being 2-1 now, Sunday is a must win for the Bulls. Right?
Just after turning on the TV, I saw Wade, Hoiberg, and some other guy....

I'm gonna hold back on thinking this team can do anything special...
I don’t want to be disappointed again. But this game is a must win to even have a chance.

A must win even for "confidence" purposes.
If they “could have won” Game 2, they just as easily could have lost Game 1 and being on the verge of a sweep.
People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett
Very true. I think that missed free throw by Pierce is even more glaring now.

Right. If he makes that, that's two blown games by the Bulls and Vinny Del Negro...
…and now a blowout loss at home. And this against a team that’s no better than Philadelphia 76’ers.

The Plus-Minus Saga cont.
Shouldn’t our starters be Aaron Gray, Lindsay Hunter, and Anthony Roberson? They were all +13 tonight!
Joakim Noah: Better than you.
Oh, sorry, Linton Johnson with he +13 - Roberson only had a +8.
So that’s 4/5ths of the team. Then we just need a shooting guard – I heard DeMarcus can guard people.
Joakim Noah: Better than you.
I was at the game tonight
…..
:-(
On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!
I was thinking about buying tickets to the game tonight too...
I am so glad I didn’t. Bulls should have to refund money back to fans for this performance.

my postgame thoughts
1) we were so badly outcoached from the moment the game started it’s unbelievable. Doc made major adjustments on both ends and it showed. They were committed to getting Pierce the ball closer to the hoop and in better positions, and he just overwhelmed Fish. Fish was absolutely awful defending Pierce in the 1st quarter too, which made things worse.
2) Defensively, it is clear Doc adjusted as well. To me, it looked like his idea was to just get all over BG and Derrick and make others beat us, and BG got off to a slow start, Derrick’s passes weren’t particularly crisp, and Miller, Tyrus, and to a lesser extent, Noah, could not pick up the slack and finish inside.
3) Along with that prior point, Tyrus just cannot score around the basket. I was glad to see him rebounding better tonight, but it’s clear the physical nature of the celts bigs have disrupted his ability to score and get to the line inside. Next game, I’d like to start with more screen and rolls up top with him and Rose (like the one that led to TT’s huge dunk that made it 4-3). Make Boston decide if they want to complete leave Tyrus at the high post to help on Rose, and if they do, then let Tyrus try to drive from there or take the open 17 footer. It’s clear Tyrus is not going to be effective working the baseline and trying to score from there in this series; of course, Vinny doesn’t make adjustments, because we have no adjustments to make.
4) In the 3rd quarter, I counted 1 possession in the half court that we didn’t start with a pick and roll up top. That’s our entire fucking offense. This team is so poorly coached it’s not even funny.
and oh by the way
to all the people over the last few days yelling at me for my pessimism, is it clear now that we don’t have some magical home court advantage?
