Sweet Justice
Rose was better than expected in a class that was much better than expected. He deserved this award…..playing on a team that already had a very capable PG and playing in his hometown with the #1 pick stressors and then the knee tendinitis off the bat…and the messy roster we had to start the year….Rose was constantly good.
Ok so Vinny seems to have the X's down.....now he needs to learn the O's.

Congrats to Rose...he deserved it
I remember before the season, most people had either Beasley or Oden as Rookie of the Year. All I can say is that I am so incredibly glad Paxson picked Rose over Beasley. Rose is a star waiting to happen and I am so excited watching this kid grow up. Keep up the good work Rose and keep playing with that intensity.

Awesome
ROY this year.
Next year he’ll be an all-star.
The year after that, he’ll be MVP.
(probably)
by Rose MVP on Apr 22, 2009 10:13 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
i think you're gettin ahead of yourself
i say next year he’ll definitely be an all star, but 4 or 5 years to even be considered in the running for mvp. Once Lebron gets it, he’ll be in the talk for many years to come. He also has to compete with the likes of Chris Paul, Kobe, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard(he’ll be a dominant center eventually).

If he starts playing like he did in Game 1
with any regularity in the following few years he will at least begin to be part of that great “conversation” out there.

I just looked at his comparison with Jordan's rookie year
Jordan averaged almost 6 assists, 28 points, and shot 51% as a rookie! So yeah, Rose has a long way to go to get there, but I think he can do it.
by Rose MVP on Apr 22, 2009 10:26 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
when jordan was a rookie...he was the only person of importance on the team...
the bulls weren’t very good at the time, Jordan was able to shoot the ball a lot more at the time. I’m not exactly sure how accurate this is as I wasn’t even born at the time, but this was my impression of how it was during Jordan’s rookie year.

I remember it was like that
until they got Pippen.
MJ was also a SG. I’m not saying that if Rose was a SG he’d be as good as MJ. I’m just saying they had different things to focus on, not just the fact Rose had Gordon to take some of the offensive load.

but then again I was eight at the time…

What I'm most impressed with is Jordan almost had as many assists as Rose.
And he played SG and focused on scoring, and probably had worse teammates than Rose his rookie year.
by Rose MVP on Apr 22, 2009 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
MJ
Also was a year and a half older and had 2 years of college time….to get acclimated to the “next level”….
And well MJ also was MJ. I think it’s silly to think Rose is going to be MJ. But having him 15-16 months younger and putting up as solid numbers as he did while on a much more established (though inconsistent) team, is pretty solid.
What were Wade’s numbers in comparison to Rose? I think Derrick’s outdueled Wade, and Wade would have been a tie for ROY that year had he not sat for injury for like 25 games.
Ok so Vinny seems to have the X's down.....now he needs to learn the O's.
by majoyenrac on Apr 22, 2009 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Now I see what the problem is.
A lot of young guys who never actually saw what went on in the 80s. Rather a lot of guys who only have the numbers to tell the story. MJ spent 3 years at UNC, not 2. He has always been listed as a SG but he did have stretches where he played PG (like the stretch in the 88-89 season when he slid over to PG for a bit and had 7 consecutive triple doubles, then missed a triple double the next game by 2 or 3 rebounds, then went on to have 3 more triple doubles in a row).
And Derrick Rose can in no way be compared to Michael Jordan at this point. However, Rose’s statistics compare favorably to Dwyane Wade’s and Chris Paul’s during their rookie season and that’s very encouraging. I can easily see Rose as a top 10 or 15 player in the league by his 3rd or 4th year.
by lexdiamonds0730 on Apr 22, 2009 12:29 PM CDT up reply actions 2 recs
On a serious note though. Does anyone doubt that Rose will be better next season?
The fact is he’s committed to being the best player he can be. This commitment, along with the development of a better understanding of the NBA game, will propel Derrick Rose to new heights. Looks like the pick and roll will be a staple as long as VDN is here. Combine the development of a Chris Paul like probing ability with the attacking style of Tony Parker and you have Derrick Rose in about 2 years….completely unstoppable!!!
Here’s to hoping he stays healthy. And if he does, then the Bulls will be the talk of the league again real soon.

I watched MJ his whole career
But couldn’t remember the 1 or 2 years. I did say essentially the same thing you said that you really can’t compare MJ (best ever) with anyone else…..I mean if we’re lucky in 10 years you might be able to compare LBJ to him, or Derrick….and in 2-3 years there’s a chance at Kobe, but so far they aren’t really close.
But I was just pointing out that I’m impressed with Derrick’s numbers being at least reasonable given the age difference.
I was a kid when MJ came here, but I watched him all through the Bulls tenure and through my high school and early college days.
Ok so Vinny seems to have the X's down.....now he needs to learn the O's.
by majoyenrac on Apr 22, 2009 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Indeed. Wade, Kobe, Paul, LBJ, etc. are all one class below Jordan. Teams
constantly hand checked Jordan and beat the hell out him when he drove in a manner that would not be allowed today, and Jordan still had superior offensive results, not to mention being the best defensive 2 in the league. There is the GOAT, and there is everyone else.
If Rose is 90% as good as Jordan, he will easily be the best player in the league.
A lot of young guys who never actually saw what went on in the 80s.
Maybe we can?
by Granny Waiters on Apr 22, 2009 6:17 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't believe that for a second.
James might get away with a lot, but he gets the hell beat out of him, too.
At the 00:48 mark. Three guys attack him, and two of them fall, James stays standing. My guess is he would have no problem with hand-checking.

Speaking of Wade vs D-Rose (And I find this interesting)
Is that Rose and Wade scored the same amount of points (about), Rose had about 2 more assists, and while Rose had a slightly lower TS%, he did have a higher eFG%. Wow.
As much as I would love to have Ricky Rubio on the Kings, I’m not sure if I’d rather have him, or John Wall, more than Derrick Rose. This kid is just fantastic. And doing at home? Shiitttttt.

I don't blame the refs for that
Rose stopped even trying to attack because the Celtics “blitzed” so hard on the pick and roll. Then, in the 4th when he would have normally tried to attack anyway, Gordon was so good that he had to keep giving it to him.
You can’t get foul calls while standing still and passing the ball from 18 feet out.
by runningman on Apr 22, 2009 12:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think his lack of assertiveness was a result of the 2 quick fouls.
That pretty much took him out of the game. The first foul was phantom call. Hot garbage!!!! He did foul Perkins on that second one though. But I don’t think he’s going to find himself in early foul trouble in game 3. Hopefully he attacks that Boston D early and gets their bigs in foul trouble.

I will never forget that night. I think we were going to be the # 9 pick and when they didn’t call Chicago Bulls I went crazy. It meant we were 1, 2 or 3. D’Antoni was visibly shaken. Then they called the # 3 pick and again no Chicago Bulls. We could now get Beasley or Rose. Then the # 2 was called for Miami and all hell broke out. BaB comments came like a machine gun. It was a fun night that will impact us for 10 years or longer. Congrats Derrick!!

Hughes was the real exchange for Wallace
seeing how he was the one with the equivalent contract. So Wallace really turned into Tim Thomas and Jerome James.
Wallace’s real value was in the excitement of beating Miami that year.

Well I think
Rew was the real exchange for Wallace, and that Hughes and the exchange with Joe Smith where what Jerome James and TIm Thomas became (fillers to make a trade happen and that is all).
Pax and co had their eyes on _rew _ooden for years…..he was constantly in the Bulls rumour mill…..then we got him at the absolute worst time to use him (losing any defensive ace down low to add in a jump shooting big who might have fit much better under Skiles).

Piccolomair, I think the Hinrich Light has shown, I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Kirk the past month. Sure he’s not taking a major role, but he’s contributing all over the place when out there, and his defense has been as good or better than it was when he was on the all defense 2nd team….(I’d argue better of the past month or so since he got his legs back)

i really thought last year was a bad year for kirk
so im not so much surprised that his playing level has risen, although the difference between kirk and derrick is so visibly great….i dont know if anyone else noticed how kirks been running the point a bit differently, adding a little more flash, i think he came into this season working on his pg skills because no one expected derrick rose to be starting, and excelling, this quick. I think this offseason if i were kirk id work on shooting. Even if he is traded (which is a high possibility) his shot is still kinda flukey at times.
His defense has been awesome, despite the fact that recently he has been guarding 3s instead of 1s and 2s. I think when he goes back to guarding 2s he has an easier time since he doesnt have to body up as much

I thought the same thing on last year's anomally
But I think Kirk in limited time and less consistent time has truly stepped up his game…..if he needs to go he’s managed to definitely up his value from last year and to me looks better than ever.
I think Kirk needs to work on shooting against opponents. I do think he’s got a nice shooting touch, but think he needs to work on shooting in more of a game type of moment. I think Kirk should play in many 1 on 1 and 3 on 3 teams as possible this summer….
I mean he’s quick, he can handle, he can pass (much better than BaBers think) and can get into the lane….but what he seems to be unable to do is to slow down just a bit on his layup shots (where they still rim out) and gets a bit nervous at times in the jump shooting mold (more a SG role than a PG)….and I think those are things he should work against even lesser competition…..cuz those are where he lacks.
No question Derrick’s a special talent and infinitely better in the future….but I’ve been impressed with the back in shape Kirk, especially on the defensive end.
Ok so Vinny seems to have the X's down.....now he needs to learn the O's.

In terms of what kirk can improve on
i think there are aspects where he can never get better at, at least anymore. At some point guys are near thier potential in areas. I think as players get older they can continue to work on jumpshots, but especially in the nba, the ability to shoot over guys isnt just a thing you can work on. Kirks actual one on one skills isnt that bad at all, he does from time to time, but his game just isnt that. And even further i would never want his game to be that either.
Kirks passing is really good, but he doesnt have that exceptional instinct that most great pgs have. Kirk is the kind of player you really want in a system, where there is something set. Its why i believe kirk plays with bradmiller so much, who is another system guy. Its why kirks go to move with brad miller is a pick and pop, because its a set play. Whereas you have a derrick rose who basically create something out of instinct and finding right moments.
I think thats also why kirk has to work on his jumpshot, so he can play off of derrick rose and ben gordon (assuming we go into next year with the same roster). Rose and gordon will attrack alot of attention, i want hinrich to just get good at running to an open spot on the court and have the team trust him enough to pass him the ball and know that he can knock down that open jumper. Much like a john paxson was trusted.
I think hinrichs biggest flaw is his mentality. Anti-clutch? Maybe more like second guessing on offense. Put him in a situation where he doesnt have to second guess, and i think he will excel. If he does like gilbert arenas 100,000 shots training im sure he will have the confidence to not second guess a wide open jumper, and i think that would make all the difference in his overall game.
I also like him coming off the bench, but i could see him starting somewhere else and not really losing his efficiency.
On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

Totally agree
One thing I think and what I was trying to get at is that Kirk often times has the move into the lane to beat his guy but the open layup he gets always or more often than not rims out….and I think that is an aspect that he should work on most by playing more one on 1 and 3 on 3 drills over the summer…..cuz if he does that he’ll be gobs better and that is something he should improve upon. I certainly don’t want him to try to be a BG….but I guess I phrased my thoughts incorrectly or at least they didn’t match my intent.

than Rose and maybe even Paul, if you are just measuring their impact on their teams and league in their rookie year. Iverson was a pretty huge sensation his first year.

And this is news?
It was only a matter of when they announced it.
With that being said, my favorite part of him winning ROY is that it doesn’t just come because of a decent or even weak rookie class. This years rookie class just maybe the deepest class of all time considering all around talent.
The fact that he won it in a class so talented is what I’m most proud about.
Most thought it would take him a couple years to get into the thick of things but he grabbed the bull by the horns (no pun intended) right from the first preseason game.
I thank God everyday for Derrick Rose.
God is good.

Also, how the heck did Robin Lopez get a second place vote? He averaged a whopping 3.2 points and 2 rebounds a game!

and as for the people who didn’t vote for rose, on espn’s ballot, three of them showed up, 2 for lopez (which would be the two) – hollinger and someone else, and then the crazy woman from detroit who voted for mayo.

Will still get some 6th man of the year votes, since you still in March see him on the 6th man of hte year discussions….. If he does, then they really need a new system…..these guys clearly don’t watch as much as the fans or coaches. Let the players and coaches vote with each team designating 1 key media member to vote, 1 member of the scouting team, 1 member of the coaching staff, and 1 member of the backoffice staf to vote….designate each witha 25% weight, and clear up this stupid biased mess that is in the media’s minds…

Yeah I didn't notice that
Man, seems sweet justice, since really our last ROY recipient should have been Ben GOrdon with him single handily winning 10 games for us as a rookie, leading the league in 4th quarter clutch scoring as a rookie and really being the difference from what would have been a 35 win team to a 47 win team that year…..plus he lead us into the 4th seed.
Oh well, Derrick was hands down better than BG was that year and this year had a great rookie class of competition out of the gate to boot.

OT - Anybody have a recommendation on how to play an AVI?
I usually don’t watch many digital videos, but I just downloaded that Bulls game from Saturday and I’m not exactly sure how the hell to watch it.

Windows Media Player?
The free RealPlayer download plays AVI’s, but also does pop-ups.
Maybe we can?

try VLC player
it usually can read a lot of the different encodings.
unless the thing you downloaded it from gave you instructors on a particular software you need.

np
sometimes when vids are encoded and stuff it’s kinda annoying. if you know what the encoding is sometimes you may have to download something to install it into the player but vlc has a lot of support for plugins so even if it’s not supported by default it’s usually easy to find. if you’re having trouble, i’ll try to help ya out.
