I would have liked him out there, too, but it’s not like he was holding up the rebounding numbers or anything.

But you can’t blame the rebounding issues on Ty not being out there. Say the threat of a block, or fresh legs, absolutely.

its not like Miller could even JUMP during the last 5 minutes of this game

And Miller did have that VERY COSTLY turnover from being just too damn tired and slow.

by KentuckyBullsFan on Apr 20, 2009 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Miller had a decent game, but there's no fucking way he should have been playing over TT

in the last few minutes….WE’VE GOT FUCKING BEN GORDON ON A HOT STREAK FOR JUMPERS AND 3 POINTERS. WE DON’T NEED MILLER’s jump shots anymore.

is not the most important attribute for rebounding in an NBA playoff game in the Champs house.

I would play TT at the end (or at least some significant time in the 4th!). But if you need rebounds again Boston in their building, it’s not all about the jumping. That’s all.

That's the game right there.

Yeah, it’s frustrating that Tyrus isn’t out there, but let’s be clear on this – T2 hasn’t been rebounding for shit. Six, then four rebounds in a playoff game is just awful out of your power forward. Noah too – he was manhandled tonight. They’re just weren’t strong enough, and we weren’t getting out in transition to use their speed and quickness to offset what they lack in bulk.

We lost the game because of second chance points. The good news is, it’s correctable. Everybody – Derrick, BG, John Salmons – has to crash the defensive glass like madmen. That’s the only way we can offset our lack of size down low.

You can’t run if you can’t rebound. And if we can’t run, we ain’t gonna win this series.

I was just being a smart-ass, obviously.

There were plenty of individual plays/calls that could have made a difference of a few points, but you get those in every close loss. While it’s highly irritating when refs screw things up and it hurts the team, the Bulls had ample opportunity to overcome them, which is easily seen in the fact that the Bulls were up late in the game in spite of that 3 and the continuation they gave PP at the end of the half.

I find those incredibly irritating at the moment, but overall the two things that stick coming out of the game are the fact that Vinny did not save a TO yet again and the team was horrible on the boards.

Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!

The only good news I can muster is that luck played a big role in their win today.

A lot of their second chance opportunities were just straight up lucky. Add to that Rose’s 2 early fouls that kept him from getting into rhythm.

We are still the team we have always been and VDN is still our coach. But on top of that the Celtics are not what they’ve always been. Both games at their home court being close and Rose with foul trouble in the first half we still have a good chance of moving on. Remember our home court has helped us this season.

Why is that?

We did get out-rebounded badly. That SHOULD be easily fixed. They don’t even have simple fundamentals for bocking out. Like Noah walking towards the basket insteasd of backing out to block out Porkins. The rebound flies over the arms of Noah and straight to Pork. No push even.

But the counter is that Pierce is probably going to wake up at some point this series. Kudos to Fish for keeping him under wraps thus far. Non-kudos to Fish for some really selfish play on the offensive end.

he’s been good on pierce in small chunks because he’s such a different type of defender than salmons, and VDN hasn’t played him too much. and i like the way hinrich has played in his limited minutes too. without deng we almost have to give hinrich a few minutes at the 3, and he’s been fine in those few mins there. the real problem, as been covered ad nauseam, is the brad miller experience

i didnt come on here throughout the game but wow...what a game.... as a fan of basketball, it was just straight up incredible...

as a fan of the bulls, it was a heartbreak. I understand the a lot of people here think it was vinny who fucked us over once again.i agree but not because he made so many mistakes throughout the game, cause i think he didnt. but one thing that obviously needs some help is the timeout management. two games in a role without a TO remaining at the end must be pinned on someone, and that someone is vinny. so i do blame vinny for that aspect of the game. but thats the only thing i blame on him, because, well, we are competing very good against the defending champs. and coaching has a lot to do with it. as a fan of the bulls, i hate seeing mistakes, especially from the coach, but maybe we should start giving some credit where credit is due……….now go ahead and crucify me if you’d like………

one play I remember was one of the jump ball calls on a (Noah?) tie-up. The refs not only didn’t call a foul, they reset the 24 second clock, and still charged the time out the player called! Then they (he, really) threw the ball up towards the Celts’ big on the jump. :(

The Bulls had a higher eFG%, FTA/FGA, and lower TO%

The only one of the four factors that they lost was the OReb%. Celtics gathered 42.9% of their misses, whereas the Bulls only grabbed 21.6% of their misses.

That’s the entire difference between winning and losing. The Bulls either dominated or slightly edged the C’s in every other category, and because they got hammered on the boards, they lost the game.

Fuck Vinny.

But you all don’t seriously think Tyrus should always be in the game over Brad do you? Brad’s had some sucky moments, but TT & Noah weigh less than Big Baby’s left nut. And although i think athleticism is the way to beat the Celts, in the playoffs you also need half-court execution, and having Brad in w/ Rose has led to some good half-court execution these past few months.

I know tyrus only had 4 rebounds

but brad miller, although a better rebounder, hurts us as a team if used for long stretches. Hes too slow and cant show hard on the pick and roll. Also, he cant really rotate fast enough defensively which result in him or someone else being out of position. Thus, despite tyrus’s lack of rebounds, players are in better position to rebound when hes on the floor with noah. I dont know if I presented that thought clearly enough, but I think I made the point.

by rosefromconcrete on Apr 20, 2009 10:06 PM CDT reply actions

yup

same thing was happening to BG too. 2 atrociously officiated games.

by Calogero on Apr 20, 2009 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Still Salmons is really doing a nice job checking him

Pierce looked tired. He’s not used to being pushed on both sides of the court since attention paid to Garnett usually helps him get open at times. Without KG, and with Salmons riding him, Pierce looks like nothing special.

by jmogs on Apr 20, 2009 10:12 PM CDT up reply actions

the rebounding statistics are slightly misleading in this game, it was more even if you factor in

that the Bulls had FOURTEEN BLOCKS as a team.

Problem was, Boston was rebounding those blocks better. Bulls still had huge problems blocking out, but it wasn’t as horrible as just being outrebounded defensively.

(boston had 6 blocks)

by KentuckyBullsFan on Apr 20, 2009 10:11 PM CDT up reply actions

The Bulls rarely gather the ball after blocks.

Tyrus either throws them out of bounds or slams them down back to the offense. Noah usually just tips them back to the shooter or short to a man under the hoop for an easy 2.

by Syxx on Apr 20, 2009 10:14 PM CDT up reply actions

ty has been improving a lot in this aspect though

but noah def has to learn to work to get his blocks away from the opposing team. a bunch of them did more harm than good.

You are right though

I do appreciate when Tyrus says it is his fault for putting too much into a block (that shows maturity)

by Syxx on Apr 20, 2009 10:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Two (I think unique points)

1) None of our bigs set good screens. Allen got textbook screens and freed himself from Gordon to get good looks)

2) Gordon couldn’t stay with Allen. He was getting screened the entire fourth and he changed nothing (could be a coaching lack of move, could be that Gordon couldn’t fight through them)

by Syxx on Apr 20, 2009 10:07 PM CDT reply actions

Or, as Perkins calls them, opportunities to be a total and complete tool

by Pat19 on Apr 20, 2009 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

BG

Stayed with Allen fine. He destroyed Ray All night long. I know Ray hit the last shot, but BG’s defense was solid. THe last call they purposely put Noah on Allen for Noah’s length, and Ray did what superstars do.

Vinny’s really opening my eyes so far. I know Doc mostly sucks and lucked into this team, but Vinny’s strategy (let Rondo shoot and let Glen Davis and Kendrick Perkins try to beat us, is a great strategy. Unfortunately both Davis and Perkins had a taste of home court tonight. I don’t think they’ll keep that up. e’ve stopped Pierce from being the superstar he is (how good is John Salmons? Continues to surprise….Glenn Davis won’t do that again. Tyrus was fantastic tonight, but suffered too much from the Tyson Chandler syndrome, getting fantastic blocks that he either blocked out of bounds or blocked to a Celtic…..

We’ll see….would have loved a win, we were the better team again, but you have to be encouraged with this one.

Kirk had a better O game tonight, but what was lost last game was how absolutely fantastic his D was…..

4-9-09: Ok, so Vinny's not great, but maybe he has a future as an assistant coach.

Unlike

most here, I’m impressed with what Salmons has done too. Makes Pierce run on D too.

His shot selection is again poor, but he at least attacked the hoop more

Pierce really looks gassed, he drove to the hoop easily 4-5 times in the final quarter and then just flopped for calls. The refs thankfully didn’t buy into his act.

defensive rebounding was the main problem

they got 21 offensive boards, and outrebounded us by 14. we get any of those rebounds at the end of the game, and it’s probably over.

as much as they did then. Because that is how they were getting rebounds. Somehow I don’t think we would have gotten away with it that much.

i remember one particular instance where noah was going for a rebound and they pushed him out of the way with no call. this was right in front of me cause my seats were behind the basket (a little further back, but still within clear view). so lame.

Also, I know that no one is gonna agree with me but

Brad Miller is very overrated as a passer. Yes, he makes some great passes, but thats bc he attempts a lot of very difficult passes. He also makes a lot of terrible turnovers which really hurt us…especially tonight

I don't agree with the overrated passer comment

I do agree he tries threading the needle too much. He does lose the ball a lot when he is looking for calls, but so does Gordon, Noah, and Tyrus.

by Syxx on Apr 20, 2009 10:21 PM CDT up reply actions

part of being a good passer is knowing when to make a pass

Just because someone is capable of making great passes, but always turns it over trying to do so, does not mean they are a great passer.

But let’s give him a bit of a break, things should go a little easier at home?

Miller continues to force the issue with his entry passes

Joakim Noah is not Al Jefferson, he can’t corral difficult passes all the time. The Celtics live off deflected passes, and Miller gives them lots of chances with his lazy passes.

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh$%#$%#$%

The Bulls played tonight like a poised veteran squad. They overcame all the bullshit, a hostile home crowd, increased attempts by the Celtics to get physical. In the end, the Celtics played much better defense on Derrick Rose, and our bigs could not get a defensive rebound to save their life.

Props to Ray Allen, he had a hell of a game, there wasn’t anything more you could have done to stop him. BG and Allen were going at it the whole game, not once did they talk smack, or stare each other down. Just 2 ballers going at it.

He called the last time out to get a good look for Ben, going for the tie (?), OT. If he hadn’t, and they’d had someone other than Ben shooting with 20 secs left, you’d all be up in arms over that. Get real, okay?

And Revival, my post is not specifically meant for you as much as you’ve coincidentally triggered a reaction on my part to all the illogical VDN hate/blame.

Also, Vinny del Negro better start hamming it up with the refs

It’s clear Doc Rivers was all over the officials at halftime. The Celtics came out early and were able to commit some pretty tough fouls without any repercussions. Joakim Noah was called for the most unccessary technical foul ever. This loss wasn’t on the refs, but it’s pretty ridiculous how different both halves were in terms of playing style. Both teams should not have to bitch and moan to get to the foul line, it should just be a given…if you’re hit, go to the line.

Why didn't that 3 at the end of the second quarter count?

It went in, and was out of his hand with 1 second left on the shot clock. They blew it off, but it looked like it needed a second look to me.

These are the kind of mistakes that make me think the NBA is the WWE.

by 949CubsFan on Apr 21, 2009 11:51 PM CDT reply actions

it didn't go in.

i was sitting right by the basket at the time. ;) it bricked off the front of the rim and fell straight down.

KC actually said:

Further review: TV replays showed a deceiving angle, leading some to believe John Salmons’ three-pointer swished through near the end of the third quarter. Instead, officials properly called an air ball and 24-second shot clock violation.

it didn’t look like an airball to me (and looked like he got it off in time), and i was on that side of the court, but i guess it didn’t actually draw iron.

How about a box out?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

Or anticipation of where the miss is going. I’d expect Miller to be able to do this since he’s experienced.

2 more defensive rebounds so that Boston didn’t get an offensive put back would have won them the game.
