Cavs' Brown named coach of the year
[From the FanShots. Vinny received a 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place vote. For coach of the year. The best coach...of the year. -ed.]
There's always next year, Vinny.

It was nice to see them finally run a real offense instead of just give it to LeBron and watch
I still think a team with LeBron should run a lot more than they do, but at least Brown was willing to make some changes. Maybe there’s hope for Vinny yet.

Forget the hope for Vinny
Remembered that Brown’s damn proficient as a defensive coach. Vinny’s proficient at…putting mousse in his hair?

i have to agree

...there's some folks that, if they don't know, you can't tell 'em.
What a bunch of bs

Where did you guys see the votes? I didn't see
The specifics in the link?
Ya know, I wouldn’t vote for Vinny, but he was the best of the rookie coaches….taking a mess of a team over, incorporating a rookie PG, playing and getting some return from our 2 bigs, coaching a mismatched roster all year, incorporating a huge trade featuring the elim of 2 big minute guys for 2 bigger minute guys, removing the distraction of Hughes, trying to find his own unique system (which he’s still trying) while being faced to manage 2 former coach of the year guys with gobs of experience….
There’s been a lot of good. I just hope the actual X’s and O’s catch up to the management. On the team management he’s been very good….on the game mgmt (most important) he’s been average at best, but getting better.
4-9-09: Ok, so Vinny's not great, but maybe he has a future as an assistant coach.
Best of the rookie coaches? It's hard to tell from yesterday's game, but Spolestra wins that hands down

I have said before
But I completely disagree. Spoelstra has the same system and has the best basketball player in the world determined to avenge his name…..that adds a lot more wins than say having a healthy Luol (Which we don’t have) or a motivated cuz he’s got a contract Ben Gordon has.
I’m not going into it, but Spoelstra’s done a good job, but he’s been dealt a much simpler hand….and his team hasn’t really improved at all…they’ve been where they’ve been since day 1.
Wade is that team….Put Wade on our team and you bet we’d be looking a LOT better with all the distractions that happened early this year.
4-9-09: Ok, so Vinny's not great, but maybe he has a future as an assistant coach.
and I read it before
and it never makes any more sense.

You want to go that route, trade Wade for Rose and imagine where that Heat team is
At the beginning of the season, they would have been dying for Drew Gooden to be their starting C. In fact, they were so desperate for anything in the post, they traded for the used up corpse of Jermaine O’Neal.

Spoelstra is a horrible coach.
He has developed Beasley horribly, and even after Beasley averaged 24 and 12 as a starter late in the season, he decided to stick Beasley back on the bench for the playoffs.
I wouldn’t be shocked if a shrewd president like Pat Riley canned Spoelstra, if not in the offseason, early next season, and brings in a more experienced head coach like Avery Johnson.
Chicago Bulls Blog and Forums. NBA Power Rankings.
I'm no Beasley expert but Spoelstra is far from a horrible coach.
No fucking way he’s getting fired anytime soon and you better watch out just for how shrewd Riley can be when he’s going after BG this summer…

Agreed. Spoelstra's my hero.
Not really, but he’s a damn good coach.

KC prolly gets a vote...
no way McGraw actually voted for him. That he got any votes at all makes me want to punch a baby.

Yeah, he's been pretty adamant
about the fact that VDN is god awful when it comes to using TOs.
And McGraw (I think) has mentioned his substitution patterns.

Just emailed K.C.
asking if he knew who the clowns were that voted for VDN. Cross my fingers and hope my @tribune.com email sig will help him reply.

It was Chuck Swirsky
He gave Bargs a 1st place vote for ROY when he was a rookie
Speculation or fact?
Link?

Michael Wilbon said on the radio last week that he was considering VDN
I wouldn’t assume he gave the first place vote, but I’d bet he gave one of the others. Very sad if that’s true considering Wilbon always goes on and on about paying special attention to the Chicago teams.

He's full of shit, me thinks.
Anyone with a brain that actually watches the Bulls will realize he’s awful or, at the least, that he was nowhere near the best coach in the NBA this season. Derrick Rose is making this guy’s career. Talk about luck.

Christ...et tu Wilbon?
I figure it had to be a national media member, because any local guy worth his salt has to realize how truly awful VDN really is. And to think I once somewhat enjoyed PTI…honestly I can’t even remember the last time I watched the show.

howard is listed as first team F
maybe it just got fucked up.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
That makes sense
Though, I don’t understand how I looked at that without immediately reacting “Where the hell is Dwight?”

No Birdman for comeback player of the year?
And LeBron for DPOY?

who knew
that the bulls would get the #1 draft pick last year?
about the trade that gave the bulls positive results this season?
that the bulls would actually end up the regular season at the .500 mark?
that the bulls would actually get into the playoffs this year with a rookie Ace Ventura look-alike coach(hair-wise) and a rookie PG?
that Rose would have his best game yet of his career last saturday?
and even more so, who would have thought that we could win last saturday?
..im telling you guys..who knows?
Scoop Jackson
is that you?

WHOOOOOAAAA.
Awesome!
Joakim Noah: Better than you.
ok, so...
it was being talked about in the other post. does this mean that Vinny is decent (decent enough to keep…?) if he’s getting votes? does Paxdorf gain confidence in him with this?
y’know, just when we were kinda giving up hope on Paxson, he made great deals at the deadline, improved this team while also freeing money in 2010 (i believe?), and so i have more confidence in him and his decision-making and his evaluation skills. i’m hoping he sees the same things a lot of us on here see and doesn’t deem VDN a good coach. i still see bad subs and no semblance of an offense out there, not to mention any good D. whatever good D this team plays is based on the skills of the individual players out there (i.e. Kurt, Tyrus). it still doesn’t have the defensive intensity from when (dare i say) Skiles was here, where everyone bought into the defensive scheme (not to mention that the offense also looked more crisp).
again, i just hope this isn’t somehow blinding Paxdorf into thinking this guy is some kind of good coach or anything.

No No No
Absolutely not. They are winning despite him, not because of him.

well, this i know.
there’s too many solid players on this team to not be where there at. i’m actually a big proponent of “coaching is over-rated/over-valued”, but thats another discussion for another day.

And there's too many grammatical errors in your post for me to
understand what you “know” so I’m just going to move on.

sorry
i feel you because i’m a grammar geek myself, but its how i write. i use punctuation more for the conversational element of writing, so the reader understands more of the emphasis and cadence of what is being said, almost as if to speak it. i’d be crossing my t’s and dotting the i’s and lower case j’s if it were a research paper. luckily, this is just BaB.

Paxson was always competent
whether some moves did or didn’t work out, you could at least see the logic in it.
Vinny’s just not ready for this. I know I’m supposed to accept that, but I don’t like the Bulls as a training ground for young coaches to learn on.

i know what you mean about training ground for coaches
in my opinion, the Bulls are a marquee franchise in the league, and so the expectations are always high with the fans, no matter where in the development process of the team they are (i.e rebuilding or established contender). and we Bulls fans have seen some of the best team basketball ever played, so i feel we can tell when its bogus out there.

Well, I don't think the votes of 3 media members say anything, but
I think VDN is a skilled people-person. It takes a whole lot of it to keep 12 guys on the same page as you all season when you know zero about X’s and O’s :)
See, yfBB? VDN: just as good as Doc Rivers.
Same #1 votes as Jackson and Rivers. You and your “analyses” and “opinions” and “thoughts.” Pshhh
Coaches that are more deserving, same, worse
No order: Jerry Sloan, Rick Adelman, Stan Van Gundy, Mike Brown, Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich, George Karl( changed my mind after how they ended), Eric Spolstra, Scott Skiles ( had them competing way past when they should have been dead), Rick Carlisle, Byron Scott, Mike Woodson ( has a lot of talent but team is playing well), Nate McMillon ( 4th in West impressive), Doc Rivers( Tom Thibadeau on staff counts) Scott Brooks ( had them playing better)
Around Vinny this year – Larry Brown, Jim Obrien, Mike Diantoni ( with him the Bulls would be 5th? 6th at best?) Lawerence Frank, Kevin Mchale ( beat Bulls twice? with nothing) Don Nelson ( same style as Bulls)
Worse – Jay Triano ( worst disappointment) , Alvin Gentry, Ed Tapscott, Michael Curry ( Det is dieing and he didnt slow it well enough) Kenny Natt ( gotta at least try ), Tony Dileo ( this team finished real bad) , Lionell Hollins, Mike Dunleavy
excuse spelling….
This was a half how I thought they did this year plus I would want them coaching instead of Vinny.
"with him the Bulls would be 5th? 6th at best?"
how many wins do you think coaches really contribute in the first place? If you’re saying with D’Antoni it’s only 6 more wins that’s still huge for a coach.

They were tied for 6th and 2 games out of 5th
With Diantoni i see same no defense….. a shorter rotation earlier, and better end of game managment. I think they would have added up to about 44-38
I was thinking of 4th, my bad.
though that is where I think they’d be with good coaching. Competent coaching around 3-4 more wins: still significant.

Found it!
longtime New York Post NBA columnist Peter Vecsey revealed in his Sunday column that he’s the lone voter to select Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro first in Coach of the Year balloting. Vecsey wrote that he changed his vote from Utah’s Jerry Sloan to Del Negro because of the Bulls’ strong finish.
