The NBA - where Roses blossom

Let me first just say that the 20 year old that we have on the Bulls is a man!!  I'm going to call him Mr. Rose.  Nothing fazes this man who just two years ago was winning a second straight IHSA championship.  Not only did he tie the record for most points (36) in a player's first playoff game, he also had a double double.  There's more though ... he was perfect from the free throw line!  This is a man who shot 79% at the line during the regular season.

Mr. Rose clearly stepped up his game now that it is playoff time.  Usually it is veterans whose games improve in the playoffs because they are already proven and don't need to be stellar during the regular season if their team is a for sure playoff team.  That was not the case with Mr. Rose who had to prove himself and fight to secure a playoff spot for the Bulls.  Yet he still managed to show us another level of his game come playoff time.  Heck, even Paul Pierce missed a big free throw.

Defensively is where the 20 year old side of Derrick Rose may come out.  Rondo also had a terrific day.  Nevertheless, with Ben Gordon and John Salmons not having their best games, Mr. Rose came through when needed.

I knew that Mr. Rose would be a stud.  But after watching the game this afternoon, Mr. Rose may be more than just a Hall of Famer, but also the second best player to ever play for the Bulls (no disrespect to Pippen), and if he is the second best to ever play for the Bulls, then he will probably be one of the 50 greatest NBA players ever.

I don't think anyone would have expected this from Mr. Rose.  Yet he still acts like it's nothing.  All of us Bulls fans are so incredibly lucky to have won that lottery with a 2.4% chance if I remember correctly.  With Mr. Rose being from Chicago, all of his accomplishments are that much sweeter.

Nobody could reasonably expect Mr. Rose to be so mature and poised, I don't even know if MJ was as poised when he was a rookie.  When Mr. Rose went to the free throw line for the last time during regulation, I was reminded of the 1989 Bulls Cavs series where Jordan missed a free throw which lost us the game and then the next game he had that famous shot over Ehlo.  I envisioned that situation with Mr. Rose, and was sure he would miss one free throw.  But he didn't and guess what Bulls fans, Mr. Rose is not as talented or athletic as MJ, but he may have that same champions attitude that MJ had.

I would say that this is a game that Bulls fans should never forget.  But the thing with Rose is that, you think he can't play any better, but he does.  So who knows?  In Game 2, he may just have a triple double.

It would've helped him

if Perkins or Davis or Powe had decided to step up once or twice.

he is when he has KG to protect the basket, cus he has that threat to cover for him

he was trying to poke for risky steals instead of staying in front of Rose, and Derrick had his way with him getting to the rim today.

Sometimes I wish we would have hired Doug Collins as our coach in the summer of 2008. Then we could have fired him and won 6 more championships!

Rondo is a good defender

But Rose was just so money yesterday. He turned it on the first time he touched the ball. Rose turned the tables on Rondo though. And this is where the absence of Garnett is going to hurt the Celtics and help us so much. Unless Doc makes adjustments.

Rose was pushing the tempo on every Celtic made basket. Where they would otherwise settle into a half court game on made buckets, instead Rose was already at half court with the ball and no defender in front of him by the time the Celtics turned towards the action. Rose must have had at least 5 makes responding to Celtic made shots with dribble penetration getting right to the rim.

I think House hit a three, the Celtics jogged back, Rose got the ball and just took it end to end, laid it up, and drew contact from Powe. He then made the free throw. The Celtics worked most of the clock with many passes to get it to House and Rose just matched the points in 5 seconds. This is demoralizing. It shut up those Celtic fans in an instant.

Once again your analysis is completely wrong...

KG being gone hurt them most in regards to Noah having a field day on both ends. Nice try though, and way to flip flop on previous “observations” too btw.

Seriously, you should consider changing your name as nothing you “observe” is even remotely correct.

I think he really

effects just a number of aspects of the game. Him being out there helps the efficiency on offense-helps put guys back into their roles-helps the defense communicate. And hes their best big when it comes to pick and roll. Last time we played them Rose got almost all jumpers.
So dunno I just think you could point at a number of factors.

It was a 1.7% chance

I still think it might be too early to determine that he is a great playoff guy because of one game. Now I do not mean to diminsih what he did, nor call his skills and heart into question, but one game might just be a little premature.

That said, Holy Jesus Balls what a game!

One game,

the NCAA’s in college too.

I would say so too but ...

It would be premature for a rookie to determine that he will be a great playoff player, but Rose is atypical. He has already proven himself in the high school and college playoff tournaments. He has always came up big in the playoff (tournament) games in his basketball career.

Postgame Video of Mr. Rose =D

It's tough to be around competitive situations . . . but I've been able to manage. I've been able to survive. (GOAT)

Idunno...

A lot of us called MJ “Michael” and he was a man… Incredible performance by Rose; that floater is something special. I just hope he doesn’t get worn out with all those minutes, because I see Vinny having no other choice. Gotta give BG props for those ice-cold shots, though.

by halnat on Apr 18, 2009 7:49 PM CDT reply actions

"Kurt" needs to play well at the point for the 6 to 8 minutes Rose will be on the bench.

There are no “back-to-backs” in the playoffs, which will help.

Maybe we can?

by Granny Waiters on Apr 18, 2009 8:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Second giving BG props

Gordon was struggling the entire game up until the fourth quarter. Although he was cold he still made those crucial shots in the fourth.

by Looney_Bucky on Apr 18, 2009 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

His one made three

came when we needed it most. BG will step up. He’s going to get tons of open looks when the Celtics have to start double teaming Rose after he’s shaked his own defender.

lets not get carried away

one day he may be better than pippen…but saying that right now is ridiculous. hes a rookie thats played 1 playoff game

by rosefromconcrete on Apr 18, 2009 8:30 PM CDT reply actions

He is no where near Pippen yet

I didn’t mean to write that he is better than Pippen now, just that he could be. Pippen was a top notch defender; Rose is not even half the defender Pippen was.

wow you guys need to stop.

going into Bulls playoff lock down..now!

The Big Three today aren't the Big Three of the past

But Derrick Rose led the Bulls to a playoff victory against the Celtics. This is new territory for the Bulls as not even Michael Jordan led the Bulls to a playoff victory against the Celtics.

wait a few years before you put him over Pip

Scottie should have won one without MJ if it were not for that phantom call the ref’s made in New York. I’m convinced that team had the talent to take down Houston that year.

Rose is awesome. I’ll agree that his potential is top 50 players of all time… yes he can be that good. But when you rank him over Pip you’re going too far. Rewatch some of those mid-90’s games. He dominated the ball, his defense was stifling, he was a great passer and floor general, he averaged around 20ppg when the best player to ever live was on the same team. In fact, he created a new position, the point forward!

by 72-10 on Apr 19, 2009 8:37 AM CDT reply actions

speaking of history lessons...

He definitely made the position better and completely revolutionized the point-forward….but Don Nelson had created the point forward in Milwaukee long before we got the triangle…small nit-pick

by Jsheared on Apr 19, 2009 10:03 AM CDT up reply actions

the Kid is nasty...

I hope he has a triple double tonight. No way Boston is going to let him go for 36 again. Let’s go DRose! Chi Town stand up!!!!! BG and Salmons need to be huge tonight.

D Rose stat prediction for tonight:
15pts (6/7 free throws)
11assts
10 reb

Vinny...you look confused
