well, it says 'likely' out

i had a feeling his knee was worse than anticipated

i know it was speculated here somewhere as well.

as much as i’m “sad” that now i won’t get to see him in action in person…. GO BULLS!!

We just might get lucky

but we need Salmons to get healthy to have a chance.

I wouldn't say that

this might be a 7 game series.

Well

We’re missing Deng, they’re missing Garnett….I’d say we’re even now. (and yes, I’m being sarcastic)

Soooooo…your sayin’ there’s a chance.

by tomcat on Apr 16, 2009 9:29 AM CDT reply actions

This is the beginning of the end for the Celts

They took a chance and won a chamionship. But this is a team that is now beginning a decline. The decline may be slow and take years, but the train has left the station and the destination is Lottery City.

He doesn't have to try.

"Return at some point"

The big question for the Bulls is whether the leave him off the roster for the 1st round. I don’t care if he can come back in subsequent rounds – that would be some other team’s problem.

My bad - you are correct

From NBA.com

The NBA Playoffs

Each team that qualifies for the NBA Playoffs must submit a list of its players eligible to compete in playoff games on the day following the end of the regular season.

Because there is no Injured List for the NBA Playoffs, each playoff team must designate the 12 players eligible for the playoffs from all of its regular season lists (Active, Injured and Suspended).

A player who is on the Injured, Active or Suspended List at the end of the regular season, but who is not designated for playoff eligibility, need not be waived. He remains on the appropriate regular season list through the NBA Playoffs.

Teams must have at least nine eligible players dressed and able to play in a playoff game. Teams failing to comply are subject to fines.

So either they leave KG off the roster entirely or go with 11 until he feels better. Wow, that’s a tough call. Glad the Bulls don’t have to make it.

But they have that decision with Deng! Although even with Deng, can the Bulls fill the 9-player minimum? Beyond the 8 man rotation, do Roberson, James, Hunter, Johnson, et. al. count ? ;-)

If we would have won lastnight I would be upset....

considering I hate the Cavs(lebron) and it makes their chance of going to the finals alot better. But as it turned out it could mean the Bulls getting a first round win, so im happy

by TruEChiFaN... on Apr 16, 2009 9:47 AM CDT reply actions

Then again, it's the Celtics.

Maybe they’re releasing all this press so that he can come back, almost supernaturally, then give a great performance.

Kind of how like Paul Pierce did last year, where he had to get carried off by two other people from the court because he was so injured. How was he able to come walk after that, much less play in the exact same game? Modern marvel, the Celtics are.

by NittanyCub on Apr 16, 2009 9:52 AM CDT reply actions

Maybe holding him out for the second round?

You have to think the Celtics believe they have this series with or without KG. And they probably do, but…

It's strange Doc would let this out now

Luckily, VDN has no gameplan either way, so it changes nothing as far as our preparation.

Offseason press conference

“Ya know, Doc threw us a curveball late with the whole KG thing. Me, Bernie, Del, we had this great plan to stop Garnett, and then just two days before our first playoff game, they blindside us. But Doc’s a great coach and you’ve always got to be ready for those moves and keep doing what you’re doing. After that it was just our players being unprofessional.”

Leon Powe is ready to go

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2009/04/15/teams_slot_prompted_second_thoughts

Powe is a solid player – the numbers say he’s better offensively than Tyrus – but defensively he’s a bum. When Kendrick Perkins is out of the game, that leaves Boston with Glen Davis, Mikki Moore, and Leon Powe manning the interior. They all suck at defense.

by YaoPau on Apr 16, 2009 10:22 AM CDT reply actions

it's not as much replacing KG with Powe

it’s replacing Powe with Davis and Moore, who are sinkholes of production.

heh

I keep playing out scenarios in my head against the weakened Celtics, and keep coming back to my having little confidence in the Bulls actual ability. Seeing Salmons the past few games hasn’t helped.

Run, run, and run

The Celts D will be still be good. Pierce will get his, but I think we need to run on these guys as much as we can. This also keeps Noah and Tyrus on the floor more than Miller and Tim Thomas (at least in my world). Go Bulls.

Man, I'm a Garnett fan, so this sucks, buuuuuuuut ...

at te same time, this is pretty awesome. Can the Bulls win a playoff series? They’ve got a chance, now.

by Prevenge on Apr 16, 2009 11:54 AM CDT reply actions

Yes I think we can win!

Sam Smith says Bulls in six, and I agree with him. We beat them on St. Patrick’s day. Why doesn’t anyone else think we can win?

We’ll steal game 1 in Boston, win games 3 and 4 at home, and close it out in game 6.

My guess is Garnett needs surgery.

From above link it seems he is limping and his knee locks up. My guess it is a tear in the layer that lubricates the knee and he requires arthroscopic surgery.

As a basketball fan this does kind of suck

Now there is gonna nobody to challenge the Cavs, it’s basically gonna be a free ride for them all the way to the finals. The playoffs did just get a lot more boring today, unless of course the Bulls can shock some people
