Rose may not be an elegant speaker that provides great quotes, but

what comes through is his maturity, class, leadership abilities, humility and an intense drive to reach his optimum potential, which is virtually unlimited.

Paxson, being a Catholic, should kneel down every day and say a Rosary to thank God for his good fortune. I think this franchise would still be a trainwreck if they had drafted Beasly.

Scoop Jackson is the second worst writer on ESPN.com

ahead of only Jemele Hill.

They are both god fuckin’ awful.

Rose mentioned nobody thought he'd be ROY

and it made me go “whoa, that’s right!” Here were David Thorpe’s preseason rookie rankings.

6th, for the #1 pick in the draft. ’Atta boy, Derrick.

The only bit of the article that was interesting to me and seemed out of character

for Derrick to actually say in a public interview was this:

Rose: Honestly? The minute I heard them say that the No. 1 pick in the draft — and I’m a guard — wasn’t even being considered for winning the Rookie of the Year, I went right to work. I went right to the gym. I wanted to prove them wrong. I’m the type of person that needs something to push me. And the people around me, like my friends and people in my family, they know it, too. So they feed me things, they tell me things that someone said about me or something someone wrote, they know that’ll get me. I’m the type of person that looks for that. One little thing. Something someone wrote, something a coach said, something from someone who doubts or don’t expect something from me, or they think that I can’t do something … I hold on to it.

That reminds me a lot of the stories I’ve read about Jordan over the years and Tiger Woods as well, using any perceived slight as motivation to fuel them and drive them to keep pushing and to prove people wrong. I hope that’s an indication of what’s to come from Derrick, and hey, who knows, maybe someone he knows reads Blog-A-Bull and has seen the criticisms of his defense lobbed at him by myself and many others, and it’ll just drive him to be that much better on the end. I surely hope that’s the case.

Am I delusional, but has D Rose gone from being one of the leagues worst defenders

to being just slightly below average over the past 6 games? If he has improved, I will give almost all the credit to Brad Miller who is always telling him how to position himself and avoiding being constantly screened out and spacing his defensive stances more effectively.

Brad Miller for Player-Coach!

Also, yes, Derrick’s pick and roll defense and effort have both improved a lot in the last 5 to 6 games. It’s been pretty stark for those of us that pay attention to such things.

Fire Vinny.

by fundamentallysound on Apr 15, 2009 5:14 PM CDT up reply actions

You hit on his biggest issue.

From what I’ve seen of Derrick, his biggest problem is a)identifying screens and b) beating them. I think he has now learned/been taught to always be aware of what is around him and his defense has improved accordingly. He has the speed and strength to be a very good defender, he just needs to learn how to identify situations and preempt those situations, i.e. picks, from happening.

by dakoose on Apr 15, 2009 5:37 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think it is out of character. It is a sign that he is going to be one of the best...if not the best.

He said that his goal now is to be the best player at his position…and it will not take long for him to do that. Chris Paul, Deron Williams and the rest knows that Rose is on their heels…NOW. Once he accomplishes that goal then he is going to go after Lebron, Wade and Kobe.

I think he will not be satisfied with being to best only at his position. A day is coming REAL soon when teams will fear playing the Chicago Bulls as they did in the Jordan Era. Rose said that when there was no consideration of him being Rookie of the Year he went to WORK.

Neither Boston nor Orlando will want to face Rose in this first round. It has already been said that the Bulls will not make it and I think Rose is going to use that as motivation to pull an upset…just to show the naysayers not to bet against him.

All the years I’ve been over there, um, all the years I’ve been in the area and nobody’s ever touched me or anything like that. And now you’re telling me that I can’t go stand on the same corner I’ve been standing on for 13 years?

Derrick, please don’t stand on any corner, especially that one.

Hmm I was even near Simeon the other day

and some fool pulled out a gun and was waving it around. People were diving on the ground a lady was calling for her baby. People on the bus yelling at the bus driver to drive and people outside to open the door. Pretty crazy…and actually something crazy always happens around there when I go seems like trouble follows me.
But I really hope that he doesn’t go anywhere near those places.
I remember he went by Dillingers after the draft some time that was cool not a bad neighborhood, and he seemed pretty cool.

Scoop Jackson is amazing

He’s the journalistic equivalent to Soulja Boy. Why the fuck is Michael Wilbon not talking to Rose if they’re going to pimp Chicago roots?

He meant horrid. Soulja Boy is, like, the worst rapper out there right now.

I used to enjoy Kanye, but he drives me nuts now. Jay-Z barely ever puts out new tracks

anymore. I still enjoy listening to guys like Wordsworth or Common, but I haven’t heard much of that in mainstream rap and given the choice between listening to rap or listening to Kings of Leon, the Cribs, the Silversun Pickups, etc. I just ultimately choosing the more rock stuff.

Lil’ Wayne is supposed to be the best rapper alive now from what I gather, and I just don’t find his stuff to be particularly enjoyable – musically or lyrically. It’s just not that special.

Not only is he the worst rapper, lyrically-wise, he’s also a shameless self-promoting hack who is hated by everyone else in the industry.

those guys are fuckin' hilarious.

there are so many great lines in that song.

I particularly enjoy when Akiva says “Fuck land” (drops the grass with disdain) “I’m on a boat, motherfucker. Fuck trees, I climb buoys motherfucker.”

My other favorite line is when he says “I got a nautical-themed pashmina afghan,” because that’s just ridiculous.

T-Pain saying “believe me when I say… I fucked a meerrrrrmaid,” is also high comedy. I just love that song, it makes fun of everything that is ridiculous about rap and is even better because T-Pain is in on the joke.

Yeah some how I always catch that guy doing one of those crazy music videos.

What does tpain do with his voice? Sounds like their tampering with it digitally….well I know they are but I hope he doesn’t do that on most of his tracks.
