He hasn't been responding to treatment like they hoped...

He is receiving around the clock attention and has had VERY little court time.

It's kind of funny to be rooting for the Cs tonight,

while at the same time being happy they’re beat up. One of the things that makes this time of season great.

(I’m really glad to be in a position where I can cheer whole-heartedly against Detroit, though!)

They should just let Rondo run around until he gets a layup

Thats actually kinda funny

The Celtics of the 80’s would be flattered.

I still think they’d be deep enough though that whole team has a crazy confidence boost playing there.

Just because they say it

it doesn’t mean they mean it. If they sit their starters all game, then i’ll believe it.

My feeling is that they’ll play their starters in the first half and try to build up a led their reserves can keep.

My least favorite part of my job is proctoring exams

There is little in the world as boring as this, plus you have the essence of stress and failure just filling the room.

The least Boston could do is make a game out of it, so I have something to keep me awake until all these hardworking students finish using every freaking minute available to look up the answers they don’t know and can’t find in the books they never read.

Sociology

This semester I’m TAing Comparative Criminal Justice Systems, which is suppose to give me extra time to work on my dissertation. Usually I teach Intro to Soc, and next fall I’ll be teaching Law & Society.

When I get to write my own tests, there’s always a basketball related question at the end just for fun. It’s a “no wrong answer” of course – but it’s fun to watch the particularly stressed out students freak about not knowing the answer.

Usually non-factual stuff

Which NBA team is best – Which will win the playoffs – What was the best highlight from the previous week – that kind of stuff.

On the first test, it actually is sociology-related -

Which NBA team is best?

a) The Chicago Bulls, because conflict theory teaches that power is a significant force in social life, and this is what my instructor believes.

b) (Whichever team has the best record), because sociology in the modern era follows the scientific method, and the team with the best record should be considered the best from an objective standpoint.

c) The Oklahoma City Thunder, because the Thomas principal teaches that what a person believes is real in its consequences, and I want the local team to win

d) This question cannot be answered, because it is dependent on time and space. We live in a postmodern world, and there is no Truth. Not even Paul Pierce.

They could tie a record if they put in a little effort to win it. They could make an appearance for their fans who bought tickets. I am all for resting players, but not to play at all? He could slip in the locker room. Better have him watching from a fluffy sofa at home. Why have him play the first round at all? The real game doesn’t start until the conference finals anyway. Even playing in the first quarter against the Pistons could prove deadly. Why bother?

Philly should be a little shaken here. It was trying to win, at home, playing its regular rotation against a team not playing some key starters and (slightly) resting some others – and it blows it.

This makes a 6 game losing streak for them, right?

I actually missed that one

That game haunts me.

What happened exactly if we won?

We would of met the Cavs in the 2nd round?

by Camry on Apr 14, 2009 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Better to lose to LBJ

than the Pistons. And at the time we were more than a little worried about starting off with the champs in the first round. The main problem was that we had an attainable goal we all knew and still messed it up. We couldn’t get what we wanted: 50 wins, avoiding the Heat, avoiding the Pistons. Had we wanted to play the Heat then fine, but we didn’t. They sent us packing the year previous. Everyone was on the same page when it came to beating the Nets and we couldn’t pull it off. There’s the rub.

It was the first big sign of the blow up the following year. Miami was rotted out inside. Beating them was going to happen. The Pistons were already showing a decline but they still beat us. The Nets showed we were soft when it came to getting the must win game. And then the next year we really showed it.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Hmmm

We fell to the 4th seed? I missed a good chunk of 2007 and 08.
Dang….well good thing I missed it now I don’t have to feel bitter about it :D
Of course unless the Bulls lose to Toronto tomorrow.
I think we could of taken the Cavs. I always kinda felt that it was not just the Pistons over confidence but also they had so many long seasons in a row.
I really think that Bulls team could contain the rest of the Cavs. Though I missed that Pistons series so really have no idea.

From the wiki:

“…the Bulls performed better as the season went on and finished 49-33. The record was good enough to receive the #5 seed among the 8 teams qualifying for the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Bulls, however, lost their final game of the season to the New Jersey Nets which would have boosted them to a #2 seed and given them an easier path to the Eastern Conference Finals…The Bulls opened the playoffs by defeating the defending champion Miami Heat in a 4-0 sweep. The Heat were hindered by a nagging injury to Dwyane Wade, but nevertheless most observed felt that the Bulls had outplayed the Heat in the series. In the second round, the #1 seed Detroit Pistons quickly put a damper on the excitement of Bulls’ fans by soundly defeating the Bulls in Game 1 of the seven game series, holding the Bulls to 33% shooting and only 69 points 2. The Bulls would continue to struggle, scoring just 87 and 74 points in games 2 and 3 respectively, and finding themselves in a 3-0 series deficit. The Bulls stayed alive by winning games 4 and 5, scoring triple digits in each game, but then suffered a 95-85 defeat on their home court in game 6 to end their season.” so says the wiki

no, we would have avoided the cavs or pistons till the ECF

but we wouldn’t have played the wiz like the cavs did – we would have faced the nets since they would have suffered another loss and dropped to 7th. we would have had the nets and then the winner of the raptors/wiz series.

but since the nets had our number, that would have been a terrible matchup for us, even if we had been able to win the last game of the season.

I'll never forget where I was for that game, absolutely one of my lowest points as a Bulls fan

The team was rolling, was all setup to grab the 3 seed and make some noise. Then that.

I had moved to NYC about 6 months earlier on a whim, was sitting in a shithole apartment in my shithole room watching the game on a shitty ass stream. That loss put me in a foul mood for days.

I remember when the playoffs came I didn’t even really care. Of course they swept a bad Miami team and gave the Pistons a good run. What a rollercoaster few weeks.

oh man

that one left a scar. Back when Kidd was taking it out on Skiles.

Brad Miller's pump fake is still not on the scouting report?

From the AP:
The Celtics already had the second seed in the East locked up and could face the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs. The Sixers, though, could move up a spot to sixth and play Orlando if they win Wednesday night in Cleveland and the Knicks beat Chicago.

What?!?!?! FAIL!

An underlooked plus of playing the Magic as opposed to Boston

is that if we get our ass kicked by Orlando at least we won’t be subjected to all the histrionics. The only thing worse than getting beat, is getting beat by a team that’s gonna be pounding their chest and talking shit for an entire series. At least this way my hatred level can stay down a few notches. Although I’ll probably get sick of seeing Dwight Howard’s big ass grin after every block and/or dunk right around the second quarter of the first game.

yeah but losing to boston

will still be worth watching if Bad Ass Miller can elbow KG in the face and/or Tyrus blocking his shot into the stands

I'm still waiting

for someone to clap in KG’s face and “accidentally” smack him…

Was at the Sixers-Celts game last night

First, the wheels are off the bus for the Sixers. They couldn’t get it done against the Celts B Team (OK, they had Pierce but Rondo played like garbage and no Allen or KG).
Second, I convinced myself we’d rather play Orlando than the Celts. Even with their second stringers, the Celts play a mean half-court defense that would reek havoc with our jump shooters and pick and roll. Dwight will kill us, yes. But if Orlando’s three point shooters are off, we have a chance. And I think it’d be easier for us to run on the break.
Oh, and Pierce’s 30-some points came in limited minutes. It looked like the easiest 30 points I’ve ever seen. Just casually dropping treys and mid-range Js. That guy can still put the biscuit in the basket.

This is pretty unreal

how this is working out. We control our own destiny, but it took 6 games of help from the Sixers. Thanks Thaddeus Young. Thank you more Derrick Rose.
