The Official Playoff Chase Thread

Playoffs we're talking about Playoffs? Yes we are Bull's Fans with 20 games to go we are tied for the 8th seed in the East. Who can belive that with everything this team's been through this year, Vinny's coaching, "Big Money" Ben Gordon farewell Chicago Tour, Larry Hughes, Loul "Baby Soft" Deng, Paxon quiting then not, The Aaron Gray experiment and finally D Rose's 4th quarter benchings we would even be within a nose's whiff of the playoffs.

Star-divide

So the quest continues on Friday night against Scott Skiles and his Bucks, who we are 2 and 1 against. I know it might be too early to use this phrase but this is a must win game for us. We need the breathing room and more importantly the tie breaker with the Bucks going down the stretch. We have some tough games coming up Boston, LA, two more with the Heat but the good thing is we have 12 more home games left. So maybe the home cooking will help us we try and lock up a playoff berth. We'll be facing 9 teams with winning records and 11 teams below .500 so if we show up every night I like our chances.

The Bucks

Have 18 games left, 11 of them at home and 7 on the road. Tough games against Boston, 3 with Orlando, Portland and the Lakers still remain. They'll be facing 10 teams with a winning record and 7 teams below .500, it looks like they have a tougher road ahead. Hope that helps us.

The Bobcats

These guys are the Dark horse in the East with 21 games remaining for them to play. 9 of those are at home and 11 are on the road but they will 11 teams under .500 and most likely looking to tank it so they can win the Lottery. It could come down to an April 11th show down in Chi Town to see who gets the 8th seed.

The Nets

It's going to be hard for The Nets to sneak into the playoffs with 12 of their remaining 21 games on the road and against teams like The Cavs,Celtics, Nuggets, Portland and Orlando. They also face some stiff comp at home like The Lakers, Cavs, 76er's and Orlando.

The Pacers

Have 18 games left 11 of those at home, the split their schedule playing 9 teams with winning records and 9 below .500.  WE can help ourselves with wins on March 28 and the 31st. With a not so tough schedule the Pacers have a shot at the 8th.

The Knicks

Have 22 games left, 9 of those at home and 13 on the road. Ten of those games are against teams with winning records while the other 12 are against teams under .500. We can help ourselves with a win on April 7th but from the look of the schedule 3 games left against Orlando, not to mention a 4 game road trip and later a three game road trip I just don't see them being a factor.

If they hold true to form

the Bulls will win 7-8 home games (61%) and 3 road games, finishing one game ahead of the Bucks for 8th. They will surprise everyone by winning one game against Cleveland/Boston in the playoffs, thereby stoking expectations and then pissing everyone off with next year’s 40-42 record. And Vinny’s here for another year, because he “got us to the playoffs.” If the Bulls knew what was good for them, they’d go out and lose nine straight. I going to be sick now.

Paxon, Paxoff.

I like your description of Luol as “baby soft”. Would Charmin be a good nick name?

He reminds me of

Brad Sellers and that was his nick name when he played for us. Always getting hurt and never going strong to the hoop. Charmin would work as well maybe just call him 1 ply.

by Bullsfanla on Mar 5, 2009 2:01 PM CST up reply actions

Sellers used to start ahead of Pippen

so he must have been great. (sarcasm)

Maybe we can (but probably not)?

1 ply isn't very soft though :(

Even if the Bulls make the playoffs

I don’t think they have the nuts to get very far, or even make it watchable in the first round (I hope I’m wrong). I haven’t seen enough heart from these guys all year to make me believe that they will make waves like they did in recent seasons (against the Heat primarily).
Ever since the trade deadline (just when they were building some steam and showing they did have grit) they seem like a disjointed bunch. The new guys getting so much time on the court blew any chemistry, and I don’t know if there’s enough time to get the ship together for a good playoff run.

I think

If Vinny sets the rotation over the next few games and we know for sure what the time table is on “Baby Softs” return we’ll be good. I think Cleveland is a winable match up for us if we get in, I’m not sold on them just yet. I would like for D Rose to get some playoff shine this year.

Is this really official?

Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!

by tyger1147 on Mar 5, 2009 1:42 PM CST reply actions

I hope the Bulls

spank the Magic like the last game against them. I live in Florida and have tickets to the game in Orlando on 03/11/09.

Any suggestions for a sign.

How about

Hey Vinny!!! When the 4th comes please bench yourself"

by Bullsfanla on Mar 5, 2009 2:23 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

id like to see the bulls get the 6th seed and face the magic.

with miller on board we can draw Dwight out and then go hack a howard on the other end in tight games.

I'm more concerned about Gortat

I would rather have the AI of 2k9 coach this team than VDN

Gortat is a good rebounder

and a has a 17.3 PER this year.

Maybe we can (but probably not)?

by Granny Waiters on Mar 5, 2009 4:43 PM CST up reply actions

For that to happen

We would have to at least put together a five game win streak and hope that The Pistons take a nose dive. With A.I. coming off the bench and saying he’s happy with it, I just don’t see that happening.

by Bullsfanla on Mar 5, 2009 4:44 PM CST up reply actions

What scares me is if the Bulls make the playoffs

it could give vinny another lease on life and he’ll be the coach next year.

by The90sBullsRevival on Mar 5, 2009 5:36 PM CST reply actions

I doubt it

I think Paxson know’s Vinny’s days are up, I think it would show Paxson that his team does have talent but needs a better coach to get them over the hump.

Losing to the Cavs by 30 points a game while Hinrich guards LeBron James

Ahhh, I can see it now.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

We could

End up like Atlanta when they got to the playoffs. look at them now!

True, and their coach is an idiot. Hope!!

hes bald too

vinny js needs to cut the hair affecting his thought process

by sin on Mar 6, 2009 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

Jerry Reinsdorf is so

cheap he probably asked Rose if he would wear #5 so he can recycle Jalen’s jersey.

by PricanStar on Mar 6, 2009 2:24 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

I'm sure he offered it to Roberson then

Cause Roberson is wearing #5 now.

"Remember, I'm Italian".

by BCs71 on Mar 6, 2009 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

we already had a #5 on the team, anyways.

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

by Jaina on Mar 6, 2009 3:19 PM CST up reply actions

Wrong,

When we drafted rose we didn’t have anyone with #5 on the team at the time. Now we have Tim Thomas with #5.

Anyways it was a joke.

by PricanStar on Mar 6, 2009 3:26 PM CST up reply actions

nocioni?

and roberson wears #5, not thomas. thought it was kinda interesting that of the guys we got back, 2 of them chose numbers of guys we had shipped out.

anyways, i had actually gathered it was a joke, i was kinda responding to BCs…

This is a must win!!!!!!!!!

Let’s go Bulls. I hope Tyrus brings his game and BG gets out of his shooting slump

by stretch1 on Mar 6, 2009 2:37 PM CST reply actions

definitely a must win

it’ll seal our tiebreaker with milwaukee if it comes to that…

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

by Jaina on Mar 6, 2009 2:42 PM CST up reply actions

Not to mention that losing would set a horrible tone for the coming road games.

It’s bad enough to take on teams ahead of you on the road, needing to pull off some wins, when you’re a notoriously bad road team. How much worse would that be coming off a loss at home to a team they’re even with …

Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
