Nocioni Blasts Kings

I guess the honeymoon is over.....LOL!  This is too funny.  It is on hoopsworld by Steve Kyler.

Star-divide

Nocioni Blasts The Kings:  The Sacramento Kings identified Andres Nocioni as a player they wanted at the trade deadline. The Kings had other offers for Brad Miller and John Salmons, some that would have offered interesting pieces, but management wanted Nocioni. They liked his toughness, his style of play and viewed his addition as a means to change the culture and style of play in Sacramento. Nocioni does not seem to feel the same way.

"If I can get something better, I will make the decision." Nocioni said to Spanish language publication Olé as translated by our friends at HoopsHype. "If Sacramento can improve, staying is no big deal. The thing is, here they are more focused on not losing money than on the team that's coming."

"(Sacramento) is the worst team and being here you find out why... There are many young guys that want to find their niche, but they are so far away... There's no chemistry or teamwork. I can't see how this team could be competitive in the near future in the West... The draft is going to save no one. I don't know, I'll see what happens this summer."

"Last year I lost all hope they would pass the ball to me (laughs). I just waited on the corner watching what happened. If the ball came, it came... It rarely did (laughs). It's the same thing in Sacramento. There's a lot of young people and a lot of individualistic play."

The Kings are poised to land the top overall pick in June 25th's NBA Draft. The Kings are also looking at roughly $14 million in possible cap space, and the prospect of hiring a new head coach. Nocioni is under contract through 2012, and has $28.5 million remaining on his deal. Anyone want to take odds on how long he stays in Sacramento now?

it was a stupid claim by Noc, no one outside of Gordon took more shots per minute

last year than he did (among the players that actually mattered, guys getting under 50 minutes in a season don’t count). So, I’m not sure he had any right to complain about a lack of touches or shots.

Yeah, God knows we needed more passing to Noce

Who would then properly assassinate ball movement the Argentinian way by taking a contested 3 point shot. At what point do people not care that a player tries really hard when he isn’t any good?

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

What "decision" is he talking about?

He’s under contract until 2012, so it doesn’t matter if he hates playing for the Kings, he has to stay there. Is he willing to take a buyout or something?

Why resort to name calling?

Same thing I wondered

Maybe he’ll play in Europe. Im sure the Kings won’t mind taking his contract off their books.

But Sacramento would

probably agree, no? Even if they think he’s good, they surely realize he’s overpaid.

Sort of like the Bulls gave their blessing to the Russian kid traded from Portland a couple of years back. I’m blanking out on his name.

The problem is Nocioni would still count against the cap, even if Sacramento got a good buy out.

That would really hinder them for the next few years having that $6-8 million count against their cap.

Good for him

I think the backhanded stab at the Bulls was more in jest and about last year.

Good for Noc, I knew he wouldn’t take a team losing just to lose…..

so...KC and Sam Smith were right

teams wanted Nocioni. I’ll likely never learn to stop applying logic to NBA GMs, but this should help.

If only that was true

I really don’t think there was a better offer than what Chicago gave the Kings in this deal overall. 3 expiring deals and Noc, whom the Kings did like.

Noc popping off in a Spanish language article? Just makes me roll my eyes.

I'll also add

Kyler talks about the Kings ignoring Eddie Jordan as a head coach to hire Avery Johnson because they “need” to make a splash in their next head coaching hire.

I’ve been a Kings fan for a long time, and this team has gone through a lot of head coaches. But, by the same token, so do lots of other teams.

In the nearly 25 seasons in Sacramento, there have been 3 head coaches who have made the playoffs (or come close) in there time as Head Coaches in Sac: Phil Johnson (the first season there), Garry St. Jean (in the mid 90’s—96 to be fully accurate), and Rick Adelman.

The idea that this guy is an insider is funny. Nocioni may have blasted the team, but given that he did it in a Spanish magazine makes me roll my eyes. Who cares. Some things lose in the translation, and to be honest, this team sucks. All Noc has really done is speak some truth.

This is why I began to dislike Nocioni.

He’s a phony. He got labeled as this guy who plays hard and would do anything to win, but it was all a load of crock.

He doesn’t play hard. He played lazy defense here. He just free lanced and did his own thing because it was easier than actually doing what he was supposed to on the defensive end.

Yeah, Sacramento is bad. But why don’t you go out, improve, and play big to make them better Mr. Ultimate Winner?

I always found it easier

to zone in one guy, than follow both my guy and the ball, helping my teammates out when appropriate.

Sounds like you’re reaching. Anyone who watched the games could see that he tried/worked hard and was not lazy. You can argue whether his decision making was appropriate or he had the skills to do what he tried to do, and that’s a legitimate discussion. There’s no reason to make up things he did wrong.

by runningman on Mar 25, 2009 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

He tried too much and usually in the wrong ways.

And didn’t use his brain. And played injured a lot even when someone else could be playing (Tyrus) and he was a step slow and hurting us. His fouling was amazingly stupid at times. Though I’ll miss him ripping rebounds out of his teammates hands. There hasn’t been enough laughter since he left.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

If you practice it a bit

it becomes almost second nature. You dont look at your guy or the ball, but the space between them. You help your teammates as the ball gets closer and closer to the paint area. With some practice it gets easier….noch has had many years to learn how to do that….he really did start dismissing “team” defense, leaving his man more for the ball and i often thought he also didnt communicate either since either his man would be left free or there would be some mismatched rotation. It wasnt always, but it happened enough, i think joakim and noch had a spat about that during a game too. I am sure noch is well intentioned but i think that he is at an age where he sees younger guys as dumb and he is so competetive that he wants others to follow him, get his back, not the other way around. He does things and he believes it is correct cuz it has worked most of his career, he seems like a proud guy which can be a good thing, but it could be a bad thing especially on a team with no real leader like sacremento or chicago.

what concerns me about the comments is they are wondering about whether he is a malcontent

i’m hesitant to join str since i don’t think i’ll read it much or comment again, but for all the things nocioni is, i never got the impression he was a malcontent. in fact i remember sam smith saying how he was one of the most liked and funniest players on the team. he gets frustrated with himself easily, and he does like to win, but i’ve never known him to be the type to stir up trouble.

If you were around this Kings team, it’d make you wonder how frustrated you are with the Bulls. Wait a minute, never mind. The point is, I think Nocioni can’t wait until next year. He’s ready for this season to end with this group and coaching staff.

i don't know about plenty

but yeah, i mean i think it was fairly well known he was frustrated. but he wasn’t complaining to the media a lot, and as sam smith said he was a consummate teammate which i think is more important than complaining to the latin media once in awhile. he wasn’t larry hughes “I’M A STARTER IN THIS LEAGUE” every other week. who also broke rules and did other shit.

Nocioni has the talent.

He just plays super selfishly, and doesn’t commit to playing defense (how he’s supposed to be playing it).

I think it was Charles Barkley who called Nocioni a guy who “fake hustles”.

Does Nocioni Want To Remain A King?
While speaking to a reporter from Olé, Andres Nocioni raised questions about the direction of the organization and left open the possibility that he would like to be traded this summer if the situation did not improve.
Speaking with The Bee a day later, Nocioni — who is well aware that the team’s standing in Sacramento is tenuous in light of lagging attendance and looming arena issues — said the tone of his sentiments was lost in translation and voiced concerns about how the comments could affect fans’ perception of him.

“The concern about this is about what the people who are going to support an arena and support the team think about me,” Nocioni said in a phone interview Wednesday night. "This is my concern. (That) and my teammates. That’s it.

“I don’t want the people of Sacramento to think I’m the kind of guy who likes to complain, that I don’t want to compete, or that I’m here to be here for (two) months and then want (to be traded). If this (team) is going to be competitive in the next couple (of) years — I want to be here.”

congratulations Noc...

…you made an already bad locker room even worse

Kings guard Bobby Jackson said he prefers that players voice their frustrations in-house instead of publicly."Everybody knows our ups and our downs, so why go out and talk about it and say, ’That’s how I feel?’ "

http://awsomepeoplesearch.com/

by NormVanBeer on Mar 26, 2009 8:21 AM CDT reply actions

Maybe though

That’s what needs to happen. Seriously the Kings are a mess. Giving up Salmons and Miller like they did was crap, and then letting Drew go just so they can absolutely have the worst record was even worse.

They had a nice pool of talent last year, Kevin Martin was hurt to start the year this year and the team suffered and quit by late Dec when he came back. THey should have kept that crew together, traded Brad in the offseason for more value than they got and adding in Griffin to the nucleas would be a great move…..

But they worried too much too soon about the $$ and really want to move that team to Vegas….

by majoyenrac on Mar 26, 2009 9:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Didn't Noc shoot his mouth off in a Spanish newspaper while he was on the Bulls, too?

I think it was before he signed the contract that became the albatross around the franchise’s neck. And if I remember correctly, I think his comments were followed by apologies from Noc, who said that the comments must have been taken out of context.

Anyway, maybe Noc’s comments can be taken with a grain of salt by the folks in Sacramento, since this is the franchise that previously dealt with head cases Bonzi Wells and Ron Artest. …Oh, and also because he displays “hustle” and “passion for the game”, and brings tenacity and toughness.
