"It shows the professionalism of Kirk Hinrich coming out and playing the way he did tonight. He gave us a huge lift."

exactly
…VDN is a head case. Someone coming off the bench and playing (doing what they’re SUPPOSED to do) shows some sort of extra professionalism??

It is a silly statement, because obviously it's not this game
(ie, starting) that reflects on his professionalism. He does deserve credit for how he’s handled this season – moving to the bench, playing hard in the new role, going out of his way to help Derrick, and coming back early from injury to resume that bench role.
Sure, you can argue that this should all be part of normal professionalism, but if that’s the case then there are plenty of examples of un-professionalism all over sports. Vinny just phrased it wrong (which would not be the first time he’s done so, by any means).
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
I'm not sure he came back early in the sense you're using it.
Wasn’t he really good coming back, probably indicating that there were no lingering effects of being injured? He may have just healed sooner than doctors originally predicted. Now, one could argue that he put in the work to heal faster and that’s “professional”, but it could also just mean he heals fast, which isn’t a personality trait.
But the rest, yeah, i agree.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
Yeah, I didn't phrase that thought well
Like you mentioned, I meant it in the sense of professionalism – put the rehab work in and came back when he was physically ready instead of malingering on the bench a while longer in a snit over his role, when he had a ready made excuse to sit out longer with the mid-Feb return out there.
I didn’t mean to imply that it was some sort of courageous, play through lots of pain to save the team kind of return. Obviously he did heal faster than the doctors expected.

Someone needs to remind Vinny Kirk has played 5 full years of NBA basketball
Playing 40 minutes against a lazy, depleted Pistons squad is not something you should get in a tizzy about.
Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.
Hinrich did a good job
which was great, because we needed him to do exactly that. I don’t think he learned he was in the starting lineup he thought, “Gee, what an opportunity for me to be professional, I better go put on my business socks!”
Jesus Vinny? What were you expecting him to do? Pants Eddie Rush before the game?

Flight of the Conchords
for the win.

Maybe an overraction
I think folks here are overreacting to VDN’s comment. Reporters asked him about Kirk starting and he used it as an opportunity to give his man some love. Nothing wrong with a coach trying to motivate his players.
This will not be the last dumb, generic thing that someone says in a post-game interview.
Am I Missing Somoething?
I thought Hinrich was pretty bad yesterday (good on defense). He didn’t run the team very well. Gordon/Salmons didn’t get their looks. (Gordon shot less than his season average of shot attempts despite playing like 45 minutes).
Hinrich went and took 23 shots for himself, while only scoring 24 points. He didn’t have a very good TS%. And he only had 8 assists, despite playing a ton of minutes.
I think with Rose as the floor general last night, we would have blown out the Pistons. Kirk is good as a point guard off the bench in 24 minutes or so a game. Trying to run this team, he did a pretty poor job. Although it’s just one game, and I’m sure if he was in the role for a prolonged period of time, he would do much better and get that balance between passing and scoring in the right order. But last night he wasn’t that good, and doesn’t deserve al lthis praise.

You mean all the praise of being called a professional and best back-up PG?
Yeah, people are really going overboard there. ;)

"only had 8 assists, despite playing a ton of minutes"
well, he played 45 and a half minutes, but it was only an 88 possession game. Normalizing Hinrich’s assist total for the game to league average pace and assists per 36 minutes, he comes out with 6.6 assists. That’s still a good assist total for a PG.
On the flip side, 23 shots in an 88 possession game is far too many, especially for a PG who was having a mediocre shooting night (27.3% of total shots taken by the whole team, yikes), but then again that’s somewhat mitigated by the fact that he played 45.5 minutes.
He had a very solid game, all things considered. He D’ed up well, scored a good chunk of points, though somewhat inefficiently, and handed out a solid number of assists, all in a winning effort. That’s all you can ask of him stepping in for Rose.

i dont know why you all responded to him
he hates hinrich and is resentful of anyone but gordon having a good game. ;)
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
I dont think he hates hinrich anymore
since deng took that spot…but i think he is kind of bitter that hinrich “froze” ben gordon out on more than one occasion. Also if d.rose was playing gordon wouldve been the top scorer in the game, and gordons defense wouldve looked alot better in comparison….
Hinrich i thought played an average game…his defense was pretty good, his offense was average, he still struggles to set up the half court offense and was a bit predictable on several pick and rolls. He was shooting okay, but maybe too much (mainly cuz he isnt good at making the half court decisions if there is no play set up) but at least he didnt try any lebron-esque ranged shots
On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!
