I STRONGLY disagree w/ his analysis that Gordon at PG is disastrous.
Other than the Ben-Gordon turnover (which is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard on sports blogs), there’s just no evidence that he can’t handle offensive duties at PG for 10-13 mpg.
This year. Last year. The year before. I don’t disagree w/ some of his other points he made regarding this subject. I think Gordon at PG for 11 minutes per game is less bad proposition than Hinrich at SG for 25 minutes per game.
Also, why does he think Miller can’t keep up his play for next year? Maybe a slight down-tic, but I can’t see why it’d be anything significant.
Oh, and Thomas is “close to what he is”. Yeah. I guess.

Lol, I knew that the Tyrus comment would raise some eyebrows over here
I agree regarding Ben though, I don’t see why he couldn’t handle pg responsibilities for a few minutes (god, last night sucked though). One other thing he mentioned was that Salmons would be getting a major pay raise in the vicinity of $10 million per year when/if he opts out of his contract after next season. I just don’t see that happening, not for a guy that will be around 31 at the time, who’s basically a scorer only. Especially with all the changes coming in the NBA financially.

I don't either.
Best case is he gets a long-term MLE in the range of what he’s making now. If he could get that through age 35, I think that’d be good.

Even Scoring Pgs
Can dribble out of tricky situations, they can keep up thier dribble when the other team is trying to trap them. They can call out plays and though they look to score, they can pass at the last second if they need to because they are good at passing. Bg is good at scoring, and he is pg size. That doesnt make him a score first pg in anyway. If the other team throws a press at gordon hes gonna stop the ball and try to force out a pass, not saying its an automatic turnover, but it completely makes it irrelevant that bg was ever playing the point.
You dont have to agree, but i think by watching the game enough its obvious the only time gordon is good is when he is looking to score. And ill buy the argument that he can be considered an elite in terms of scoring, but i fear that gordon playing pg is much like all those times when gordon gets the last play….the defense can simply pay attention to him alone, they can play off of everyone else and press him or trap him.
If hinrich is playing sg, at least he is playing sg with rose, and rose can be relied upon on getting his own looks and setting others up, gordon would play pg so salmons would be the sg? The distribution on the ball would be cut pretty quickly with that backcourt, and if i were coaching the other team i would force a half court press since both salmons and gordon can be forced to turnover when they put the ball down.

We're talking 10-12 mpg split into two spots.
Is he really going to stagnate the offense so much in two 6-minutes spurts as to make any real difference? And, of course, this ignores the times when this inept offensive team-especially if Del Negro is still the coach-needs someone to actually score. You’re over-estimating the contribution that much time actually matters. I mean, were happy when Nocioni was being limited to 10-15 minutes because he couldn’t absolutely kill the offense.
And you’re right. I do disagree. But that’s because I don’t just “watch the game” and trust that I can make perfect assessments from that. Gordon assists go up when he’s playing PG. If you had followed those links and actually looked for evidence of your point (I know, I know, you don’t think supporting evidence is a good thing), you would have seen that.

can i say that i believe the stats may be out of context
playing pg generally means someone who controls the ball, and the offense, and thus has the ability to make passes. Someone who plays pg is going to have more assists because, i dont know, thats one of the biggest roles of a pg? Im not saying gordons gonna hog the ball, im questioning the ability to play the position. Did gordon even play pg in college (where he would definetly have a better chance of succeeding in that role). And i dont think its about stagnating the offense in 10-15 minutes, i think its about losing our offense in 10-15 minutes. I think with gordon at point, coaches on opposing teams (that arent vdn) would (should) exploit it and just do some kind of half court trap or press in terms of defense, get the turnovers and score. And finally, if the situation is gordon playing pg for 10-15 minutes, then i should assume that there is also no decent pg left on the bench (roberson?) so the question then becomes, what if that 10-15 minutes has to be 20 minutes cuz d-rose is injured, or in foul trouble, or simply not playing well. I think gordon as a pg should basically be a last resort, no matter what the team looks like. And last resorts should only exist in garbage time.

He's as close as possible with this group of players
He’s never going to get the ball with Rose, Gordon, Salmons, and a healthy Deng. What role will he have on offense next year? If he’s lucky he’ll get 5 or 6 shots a game, and some of them will likely be put-backs or alley-oops.
Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

I don't know. Maybe w/ that group, you're right.
I don’t think they should keep Gordon for that simple fact. Although, the acquisition of Salmons mitigates that somewhat. W/ a good coach and a philosophy towards building towards the future, there’s no reason Thomas shouldn’t be third on the team in shots (behind Rose and Salmons), and if they were really smart, he’d be second.

I don't understand why you can't draft a defensive minded back up point guard?
tony douglas, darren collison etc. or get one in free agency

I would say the biggest reasons:
A) they have other needs and B) they don’t have a 2nd round pick
I think Douglas would be a great pick in the second round and Collison wouldn’t be too bad for the late first round pick, but I just think they’ll have more pressing needs. Defensive-minded PG’s are available every draft and every summer.
