Glad to see Thabo finally get major playing time and develop into the type of player he really can be... :-) Thank you Pax for releasing him from Vinny's doggy house!!

totally OT
but I went to McDonalds to get a Shamrock shake earlier, and they told me they stopped making them yesterday. Its FREAKING St. Patricks Day! Come on people!
Sometimes I wish we would have hired Doug Collins as our coach in the summer of 2008. Then we could have fired him and won 6 more championships!

You listened to your posting base, and we appreciate it.

To bad the bulls havent done anything good yet to write in here.

Indeed
its nice to see noah not mess around with the ball either, just straight up to the basket.

I don't have the heart to watch them blow us out in the second half

One of the guards has got to start making shots
I’m not even picky about which one at this point.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
Agreed
this is annoying. We would be getting crushed without Salmons.
ROSE DRIVES TO THE HOOP...
its like a comb through Vinny's hair.
This is what worries me about Rose
He’s entirely too willing to stand on the outskirts and watch his team play. It’s one thing to be unselfish, it’s another entirely to just stand around for the whole game

it's cuz he's not being coached up
i sweat to God, he woulda burned Rondo off-the-ball for easy layups 5 times by now if they would make him cut

Sorry, I'm not buying that
I get the feeling that Rose has enough freedom to do whatever the hell he wants

lol Gordon,
totally ignore Salmons and then drain a jumper.

Also:
Rondo, possibly injured?

I still don't understand how...
Gordon can miss a wide open jumper, and then come back, and make an incredibly difficult fadeaway.
Chicago Bulls Blog and Forums. NBA Power Rankings.
I never hope for players to be hurt,
but Rondo being limited or out could have some beneficial side effects.
If they keep calling fouls, who’ll play the 4th? ;)
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
if you woulda toldme 2 years ago that the Bulls would get laughably outcoached by the Boston Celtics in a must-win game
i woulda bought you a drink just to see what a crazy person is like when they’re drunk…
yet that’s exactly what’s happened through these first few minutes of the half… Doc Rivers is DEPANTSING vinnie d right now…
i guess it just goes to show ya that anything can happen in the modern NBA
well,
not hard to depants Vinny in coaching.

But this is really good news,
as it is evidence that Vinny is wearing pants. These are things we can’t take for granted right now.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
hahahaha
i’m not gonna lie, if he were to coach a game in which he forgot to wear his pants, i’d become a del negro fans just based on the comedic value of that game alone… that would be legendary

The thing I hate about Vinny the most
is that I always mispronounce his last name, and it makes me seem racist.

Personally, I was rather baffled
by Stacey’s claim about the Celtics thinking Pruitt was going to be the starting PG over Rondo at some point last season/preseason. Can’t recall that ever being the case.

I know he's still a rookie
But games like this make me loose my faith in Rose. Why doesn’t he drive anymore? What happened to that explosive player that could score anytime he wanted?
Weak minded?
I dont know but he choses to watch big games, rather then play in them.
ROSE DRIVES TO THE HOOP...

He shrinks in big time situations. I bet Westrook is gonna shit all over him tomorrow, cause he’s gonna wanna prove who the real rookie of the year is

Well he doesnt play good D
but i hope he actually has some offenseive game tommorow.
ROSE DRIVES TO THE HOOP...

he just needs to get tough, period
i mean in the last year, he’s made headlines for getting a tummy ache from eating too many sour patch kids, he’s literally CRIED DURING A PISTONS GAME, and he’s shrunk like a scared turtle on probably a dozen game-winning possessions.
it might sound like i’m rippin him, but i’m actually complimenting him, cuz once he matures and toughens up, he’s gonna be the point guard version of lebron james

I think it's hard to separate opposing team's announcers
You hear them so infrequently, they just kind of lump together and I don’t really pay attention to which is talking.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
that's a fair point Jayhawk,
That said, I’ll say that across the league, I like the crews for the Knicks, Clips and Heat a lot (guilty of the aforementioned lumping, of course).
I don’t think Mike Barrett is as bad as Mike Rice, but I would say Portland’s crew might be the worst listen in the league, as I referenced earlier.

Every minute.
Hinrich has given up as many points as Rose it seems.
My greatest enemy is my inner me
He really hasnt done anything helpful all game
He was getting double teamed early which got him his 4 assists but since then has done nothing.
ROSE DRIVES TO THE HOOP...
its like a comb through Vinny's hair.
So? Who gives a shit about Hinrich?
The Bulls wasted a year of Derrick Rose’s life putting him in this situation. Let him play the 4th and make a dozen mistakes, I could care less. He’s the future, not Hinrich and Gordon.

John Salmons is a major player, and fits in great with this team. He uses Ben Gordon as a decoy better than any player I’ve seen on the Bulls. He is such a smart player.
PG-Derrick Rose
SG-Ben Gordon
SF-John Salmons
I already have my starting 1-3 penciled in for the Bulls next year. I don’t see any scenario where Deng should be starting over Salmons, and that means the Bulls have to aggressively try to trade Deng, because you don’t pay $80 million (okay, down to like $71 million next year) for a backup.

Vinny's been making coaching decisions for awhile now, really since Reinsdorf knocked the coaching staff.
Some have been good, quite a few bad, but he is coming around.
I think that’s the difference between Boylan and Del Negro now. Boylan was mindless. Vinny clearly is making decisions, and in a game like tonight, they’ve been smart. Even in the Miami game, while he made some bad decisions (like not putting the ball in Gordon’s hands at the end), he made a lot of good strategic decisions in that game.

This game was huge. It could be the catalyst for a late season run.
Loosing would have been devastating, especially after keeping it so close. But winning to the defending champs, holding our own, not giving up. This was great. Let’s hope this is the start of something good.
How about giving DRose some love for the way he finished....
I know a ton of people were getting on him tonight, but he made it happened when it was money time.
He played a Point Guards game tonight. He did not force....which was good. With Salmons and
Gordon and MIller…Rose just has to dictate the tempo and orchestrate the game and score as needed.
Rose made his first basket at with 8:08 on the clock and his last with 1:57
6:11 minutes of pure intensity
I was pissed with him because we was doing nothing. Just standing still. But once he got into the game… Damm! He was a factor and deserves a lot of credit for the win. I just wish he did that a lot more. But we won, and that’s important too…
When he's committed to the game, he's leagues ahead of everyone on the team
I don’t think it’s a huge concern that he’s not always “on” as a rookie, because I’ve seen more than enough from him to know he’ll be all right.

What's next
lets trade tyrus noah deng and our picks for bosh or amare. We do that we get by the first round next year and maybe to the conference finals
Let's keep Noah.

Hilarious....
but isn’t it ironic we could have actually made a trade not far off from that a few years ago.
Does this mean the Bulls will be crushed by the Thunder?

There was a note in the OKC paper - I'll put it in tomorrow's game thread
But IIRC, they’ve only lost 6 home games since the New Year, and all were to extremely good teams, several on last second shots. And their defense has been much better lately.
Plus, OKC actually has a crowd that gets really into the games. It will likely be a very tough game.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
Yeah they have a great homecourt, I've seen a couple of their games on NBA TV
I was down on them because of the whole Seattle thing, but now I just think Howard Schultz is a giant dumbass, and that Seattle will probably get another team soon enough.

I truly did and do feel bad for the Seattle fans,
But I can’t hold it against the team on the floor, and people here are thrilled to have a major league sports team of our own to root for. The Thunder is a likable group of guys that play hard together and have a good attitude in spite of the early season struggles, and the local fans support them like crazy so far. It’s hard not to pull for them (except of course tomorrow night.)
I thought about trying to get tickets to the game, but its spring break here and my friends that would have gone with are all gone.

It is what it is....Deng has sulked this season...oh I cannot find my way...he was full of excuses.
Disappearing in key moments in the game. When he scores 20 points it is always quiet. All eyes are on him because he got the big deal and he said at the press conference that HE WOULD LEAD this team. Salmons can figure out in a few days how to play with Rose and Gordon. Salmons comes right in and kills from day one. Imagine if we had salmons for the whole season. We would have a better record. To whom much is given much is required.
Great point
Which is why it was a big crock of shit in the beginning of the year when he was complaining about not knowing his place in the offense. Good players make shit happen, it’s as simple as that.

with 9 points and 4 assists, working magically with Miller, the Siegfried and Roy dynamic duo of the Bulls.

Amazing what a difference a true center makes.
I love Noah and Tyrus. And even Gray had his moments last year. But Miller gives this team a whole new dimension.
Really please with the win, but...
I’m concerned that this game was so close despite the fact that the Bulls shot the lights out (53!).
Also, you won’t win often when the opponent shoots 49
BTW, Wennington gave kudos to Salmons, Rose, but PotG was Miller

Well this went from Game Thread to "I hate Luol Deng thread"
Sigh……guess I’ll just weep in a corner and read Deng’s box scores from 06-07.
Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.
You know, people are pissed because Deng turn out to be a injury prone
And because of his huge contract, we might lose BG now. Let’s hope not or it’s going to be worst
Luol hate-fest is pretty natural right now
After the game Salmons just had and Luol’s last week or so pre-injury, I’d be disappointed if Luol wasn’t the latest personna non grata on BaB. It’s hard to argue on Lu’s behalf right now, but I imagine it’ll come back around at some point.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." - Ron Burgundy
Salmons push Deng?
Who knows, maybe Salmons’ presence will finally light a fire under Deng. He hasn’t had any competition at the 3 since he was a rookie IIRC Luol has essentially started every game at the 3 for which he was deemed healthy/healed.
Either way, we should end up with better play at the 3, regardless of whether it’s Salmons or Deng.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." - Ron Burgundy
Doubtful
The prospect of a new contract could not get him to play well. What makes you think pressure from a better and cheaper player will?
by Stay Chisel on Mar 17, 2009 11:00 PM CDT up reply actions
Well the whole team laid a turd in 07-08
I’m not going to put that all on Deng, contract year or not. That was communal crap-fast last year. Besides, with that contract, Deng is here for a while anyway
Since he hasn’t been pushed for PT as a Bull, might as well hope for the best.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." - Ron Burgundy
Hell naw...Deng wilted because of all the attention Rose was getting...so now he has REAL
competition. It would be a miscarraige if Deng starts over Salmons. Deng has to earn it. He has to take it from Salmons and I don’t think he has the balls to do it.
The only way Deng starts is if Gordon is on another team next year and even then if we still have Kirk..he may start at SG.
I didn't state a preference for Salmons or Deng,
just having both with one pushing the other should result in better play at the 3 then we’ve been accustomed to seeing.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." - Ron Burgundy
If you throw in the price tag, deal length, and "Paxson Core Guy" T-shirt
I think the natural preference is for Deng to succeed. That is how I feel, but I just want this team to freakin’ win whoever is on the court! If we win with Salmons getting more time than Deng, I can live with it until the contract kills roster flexibility.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." - Ron Burgundy
I feel your pain
Kirk’s been getting that treatment all season -
although with Lu stepping up to the “hate” plate, Kirk’s getting a lot more positive treatment lately.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
Where's Kirk been getting this all season long?
I think Kirk is an interesting case study.
I think at the beginning of the season, the notion was “Kirk will be our shooting guard and make Gordon expendable”.
Then it became, “Gordon is a good shooting guard fit with Rose. They make an elite backcourt. Hinrich will never be the longterm shooting guard next to Derrick Rose”
Then Hinrich came back, playing great. Momentum swung on his side for keeping him.
Then he started playing like crap again, really playing crappy leading up to the trade deadline if my memory serves correct. He deserved to get ripped on for his play during that 2 week stretch or so.
I think a lot of the notion though, was that Ben Gordon is better than Kirk Hinrich, and if we have to choose between Gordon and Hinrich, we want Ben.
But since the trades, with Brad Miller and Kirk having a bit of chemistry, Kirk has been playing good. He’s had solid defense, and his TS% for the season is great. He’s accepted his limited role. I don’t know how anyone couldn’t be happy with Kirk right now.
Chicago Bulls Blog and Forums. NBA Power Rankings.
That's not the way I remember it, but I'm no more objective about Kirk than you are about Ben. ;)
Lately, yes, the sentiment has been more positive, but with Lu sitting and John needed at the 3 there are plenty of minutes for most people to be happy. I rarely mind when he’s being fairly criticizes for sucking in game threads or post game analysis – but I do tend to remember things like people writing essays about him being a team cancer.
I think it’s likely that I, and the other Kirk fans notice every bit of criticism about Kirk and you likely skim over them because you either agree or don’t care, and the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
But the point stands – I do feel the pain of Lu’s fans, because it sucks to high heaven to come to BaB (which, for me at least, forms a far larger part of my life than I really care to admit to) for a little Bulls conversation and find that a huge portion of the posting is directed at crapping on or looking for any trade for a player you like. Kind of ruins the fun of the whole thing.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
I’ve been saying that people are going to talk about Deng’s contract like Noce’s deal and maybe even Ben Wallace’s. It is for a long time and a lot of money, so it kind of hangs like an albatross around the neck of the team. When a legit player goes down for an extended period of time, the team usually feels some kind of hardship. Here, Deng was instantly and completely replaced by a cheaper and better player. He is not missed at all. It’s like he has been totally forgotten. You have a problem if your team is no worse off (or maybe even better) with a $70MM player on the DL.

Tomorrow will be the real test to see how much things have changed
Oklahoma City is playing great right now, I don’t think people realize that. Second night of a back to back. This is gonna be an incredibly difficult win. I want Rose to beat down Westbrook and take that ROY award so badly. Big game tomorrow
"That's a spicy meatball-a!" - Vinny Del Negro
Yeah, I think the race will be between those two
Westbrook is “closing the gap”, but Rose will win if we get to the playoffs
Yep, the playoffs wil be the difference maker
but if one player dominates the other, that could be enough to push one of the two over the top. Westbrook scares me because he plays like his ass is on fire. He’s competitive as hell and I guarantee he’s been waiting for this game to try and prove something. Hopefully Rose will be up to the challenge

Let's compare Salmons and Deng in the fourth quarter
Salmons: Drives from the three point line takes contact and finishes with a soft touch and goes to the line to shoot a free throw.
Deng: Gets ball at elbow. Look of fear suddenly appears on his face. Pump fakes 6 times straight. The defender is confused, but holds his ground. Deng tries to drive down the lane, dribbles the ball off his shoe and the other team steals the ball, takes it the length of the court for a highlight reel dunk.

Lots of talk about Luol in this thread
It seems like most have completely soured on Luol especially given that Salmons is playing so well. Instead of replacing Deng, what if the Bulls don’t (or are unable to) re-sign Gordon and start Salmons at the two with Luol slotting back into the three spot after he returns from injury? Any thoughts on how that line-up would do?
A roster next season of Rose/Salmons/Deng/Tyrus/Noah with Miller/Hinrich/Someone else seems pretty good to me.
I depends on Deng. If he bounces back then the Bulls will be on the way up and if you can add
Bosh to the mix then look out.
It's not the same as having Gordon at shooting guard and Salmons at the small forward.
That team is probably at least 8 wins worse, at the very least, than if you plugged Gordon in, and lopped off Deng.
Ben Gordon (roughly the Bulls best player, there is a case for Salmons now I think too) does not equal Luol Deng.
Chicago Bulls Blog and Forums. NBA Power Rankings.
Yup
Deng would still be a SF who can’t shoot the three or create his own shot or be LOUD on the court in any sense of it, especially in the 4th. With Salmons at SF it has been nice to have those things. And those are things most teams can get out of their starting SF on some level. We’ve just been used to having a SF who can’t do those things for a number of years now. Shifting Salmons to SG and living with Deng as our SF doesn’t mean Deng inherits what Salmons has brought to the SF. He will still be the same Deng and our SF position will still have those weaknesses.
Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
play deng at the 4?
one of deng’s strengths is rebounding well for his position. move him to the four and he’ll rebound adequately. and at the four, he’ll actually STRETCH the floor, as opposed to at the three where he fails to do those things. just a though. paired with noah or miller it could work.
Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."
I hope so too
But I think people need to remember that we won this game at home and with the Celtics missing like five guys. Including Garnett, their best player. And we still barely won the game. So, yes, it was a big win, but that’s about as far as I’m ready to go
