Open Game Thread: Kings vs. Thunder! Noc vs. Thabo!

[Note by your friendly BullsBlogger, 03/10/09 6:05 PM CDT: how could I forget...for the actual game threads go to Sactown Royalty and Welcome to Loud City]

For those who wonder why these two couldn't get minutes on the Bulls yet can get minutes on 20-win teams. How is that possible?!?!

(and it's for other people too...)

Game starts at 9 Central.

There were at least 60 "Thabo would have been awesome last night" comments in the game threads

I mean, dude, Thabo shut down D-Wade when he had a bum shoulder! Next Scottie Pippen! Without the migraines!

I was actually just thinking how funny it is that Larry's actually finally helping us!

All those games the Bulls wouldn’t let poor Larry play, and now he’s stuck in a position where playing well actually benefits the Bulls. One of life’s great ironies – sort of like the fact I keep finding myself pulling for New York tonight.

Oh, and go Spurs I guess. ;)

He is definately lacking in fashion sense.

You’d think he’d have the money to hire someone to buy him clothing. Someone who is fit should at least manage an athletic look. Of course when you are that rich as well as married no one really cares if you get out of your pjs probably. Might as well stop bathing too.

At one point, I think it was around the 5 minute mark

New York had outscored them 22-6. Bucks went on a run shortly thereafter, and had decent cushion heading into the second half, so the bad start didn’t blow the game open. But they weren’t scoring anything there for a while.

Yeah, but this was a Kings/Thunder thread. :P

Larry Hughes scores 39 points, though, so the Knicks won.
Glad to see Larry still helping us. I’m sure he’s going to sink the Knicks’ playoff chances, too.

Noc has added a 4th rebound

So I think you must be right. I’m sure it was the gritty type of rebound, too – no finesse for Noc! He probably grabbed it right away from Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson, and threw in a primal yell just to remind them he was there. ;)

I was hoping for a lively debate. It would help if I anyone bothered to put a video feed out there. Kings/Thunder to poor for video I guess. It is hard to detect Thabo’s starter juice empowered hustle over the sound waves. Usually you can see a visible aura over his visage. I’m going in blind tonight.

Thabo’s looked pretty good. Confident, pointing out shit on defense, actually posted up and spun around another defender. It’s the Kings and Thunder so this might as well be the Euroleague, but still…

Noc is still spazzing it up. I’d like him much more if he made half what he does for half the time.

the Hawes/Noc+3guard lineup

shockingly doesn’t secure a defensive rebound.

Then Noc flails on a shot on the offensive end, and talks to the ref while the Thunder score 5-on-4 (due to Thabo, somehow, no doubt).

he made the clutch free throws BG couldn’t.

17-7-2 and 4 steals. only 1 TO. 6-11 from the field, 5-5 from the line.

Not bad. I mean, you have to be a team willing to play Thabo 42 minutes in an NBA game, but that’s what you can get on the good days.

I picked him up for my fantasy team after the trade.

Sort of figured he could do this in what I assumed his role would be on the Thunder.

I took a ton of crap for it, though – people kept figuring that if he couldn’t get PT on the Bulls he must be hopeless. So for once, my painfully gained knowledge of how the Bulls and PT works proved useful. ;)

also

clearly Thabo’s better as a 3, not having to handle the ball as much, and better defensively that way too. Stupid Noc.

Then again he had his umpteenth chance, at the 3, when Deng was hurt earlier in the year. And Thabo sucked to high heaven. So, no regrets, though with the way the Bulls develop people nothing’s impossible.

better defender as a 3.

has the handles in him like Prince does…not flashy but in time he will learn to protect the rock better…easliy can run an offense in time…in spurts.

Better weapon as a 2 on offense.

overall…he can guard most 2’s. anyone that can stay in front of JJ, Wade, and Kobe like Thabo has done in th epast and against Martin tonight can guard most 2’s.

Not for Thabo.

He was going to do nothing here. Bulls don’t develop players and we don’t suck quite enough to start Thabo and give him 40 minutes a game like his current team can. This is pretty much Thabo’s only shot at getting better. If he stayed on the Bulls it would have been more of the same.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Mar 11, 2009 12:23 AM CDT up reply actions

yeah but that's only cuz paxson was inespt for about 2 years

it worked out for him when he matched duhon.

it was a mistake to match noc.

then it was compounded by not making a better run at gasol…3 years ago…not 2 when all they wanted was expirings. dont let any revisionist skew it. Heinsley was on record that the bulls wouldn’t deal. he was upset. the owner came and spke out the same way JR did on the d’antoni mishap.

deng, tyrus, and whoever else it took could have brough gasol here.

then there would have been space at SF for thabo.

and thabo doesn’t need to play on losing team…he is a winner. they are 5-0 since thabo got his feet went and he has an mcl sprain for the last 2 games. with quality wins over the mavs and 76ers-a win that helps the Bulls palyoff push.

Thabon is a winner. last year…with deng, hinrich, and Gordon out…the Bulls went out west and had a their hgighest winning percentage on the year with him and duhon.

dude ius a baller and a winner.

any player that can average 3 steals per game over 7 games is afighter, a competitor…a guy you can win with.

if this trade was made 2 months ago he would make all defense 2nd team this year.

Gordon’s scoring ability, Hinrich’s all around play, deng’s overall averagesness, and Noc’s toughness somehow tricked 2 coaches into burying thabo and a GM from clearing space for him.

all of it major mistakes…and I’ve been calling it for 3 years.

stilldropin20 on realgm. then soulsnuffer (for tyrus), then as thereacharound…look it up…check it out.

under the same monikers i predicted bobby simmopns mip year. Artests breakout year in 02. hughe sin DC in 03. Mcgrady in 00-01 on espn boards. i’ve been around and been calling shit for year.

and thabo is a pipm clone…not pip-super duper lite….not pip…super duper poor man. he is an outright clone.

He aint playing with the goat nor even a grant or kerr or cartright behind him so his stats wont be as gauwdy(sp) as if i didnt hit the worng keys planty of time earlier…but still…you put thabo right now in lieu of scottie now on that 87 team and we still get 6 rings. and in time you will all see it. i promise you i promise you he will!

They seem to love them some Thabo over at Dailythunder.com
This may be a totally crazy statement and I may want to take it back soon, but at this current moment – at 12:15 a.m., March 11, 2009 – I’m not sure if Thabo Sefolosha isn’t Oklahoma City’s most important player. I know. Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Russell Westbrook, blah, blah, blah. But what Thabo has done on both ends of the floor is undeniable. He’s changed the Thunder completely. There were countless possessions defensively that he basically blew up. He’d jump in passing lanes, he’d tip passes or he’d straight up steal it. I don’t know if Kevin Martin was hurt or something (maybe just his pride?) but he really didn’t play hardly any at all in the second half and had just 12 points on 4-11 shooting against Thabo. For the fifth straight game (that he was in uniform) he led the team in minutes. He was a +10, had 17 points (season high), seven rebounds, two assists and five steals. And just throughout the game was phenomenal defensively. I really think he may be the most important player for OKC’s success right now.

The Game chose him !

Durant because all he does is score. Oh wait, he isn’t quite short enough to go all the way with that. Still, Thabo won’t be held back by a simple scorer like Durant.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Yeah

Maybe we can trade some Tyrus for Durant…..

I’d make that trade…and I like Tyrus.

WTF

When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer

Dude, Durant is overrated as hell

Thabo is the real MVP of the lottery team. Keep messing up those chances to get Blake Griffin!

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

according to some (and who am I to judge crappy fanposts?)

They don’t need Blake Griffin anyway.

That nut was being soundly outvoted in his poll.

But man… there’s at least 15 Thundercat fans that could beat the best of the Bulls paste eaters.

I just want to personally say thanks...

for Thabo Sefolosha! I have no idea why he couldn’t get minutes up there, and no idea why in the world the Bulls let him go. He has made a tremendous impact on this young Thunder team already, and we couldn’t be any happier to have him!

WELCOME TO LOUD CITY!

thabo was just in an unfortunate situation here

having to play behind ben and luol (well and kirk and andres), and then with salmons he was especially duplicated. i know i was very happy for him to go to a situation where he was going to get an opportunity he wasn’t going to get on the bulls.

I thought you were going to thank us for the traffic :)

As far as Thabo, the Bulls are already stocked with ‘guys who helped the young bad team be respectable’.

Durant

Durant is incredible. I have watched a lot of the thunders games and he is amazing. He doesn’t just score. His long arms make him a decent defender, and he can single handily take over games, or at least keep them close. The thunder have played a lot of competitive games recently and he is a big part of the reason. He also has become the leader of this young team. If you saw the game yesterday, he was injured and not playing, yet sat next to the coaches and was routinely standing and cheering his team on. He was also the first to congratulate his teammates when they would come to the bench for a timeout.

He will have multiple MVPS, when his career his done, and people will refer to Oden as the next Sam Bowie

I think Oden will be fine

Not a dominant MVP center, but definitely solid, multiple All-Star, like an Alonzo Mourning. He’s also lucky as hell to have Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge on his team. If Oden was on the Thunder, it’d be a disaster.

And in the end -

Nocioni misses a wide open 15 footer (no one within ten feet of him) that would have tied the game with 2 seconds left, and every Kings fan that laughed when John Salmons got his pocket picked by Wade now knows what a cruel bitch lady Karma can be.

I didn't laugh

But I wasn’t shocked. I’d seen John make too many of those decisions this year. Ack!

As far as Noc, I was really hoping he would have taken 2 dribbles to get himself more rhythm on that particular shot. But as the saying goes 214, hindsight is 20/20……

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

Trades between the dredges of the league sure work, huh

Salmons is now the annointed savior of the SF position, Luol Deng merely a 72 million dollar paper weight. Brad Miller, I just love him. Every game without him was just a giant waste of time.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.
