Ummm
He’s on the phone with Phoenix if you haven’t heard by now.
Oh and this package doesn’t come close to what the Bulls can offer, so I wouldn’t worry about this too much
Yi and Ryan Anderson
don’t match one of Tyrus Thomas, Deng or Noah. The Bulls can make a far better offer. The Nets are dreaming if they think they can get Amare with that offer.

We got this in the bag.
Paxson and Kerr are buddies. Unless Miami offers Beasley, which I doubt they will, we have this in the bag.

Thomas is having his best stretch of his career.
And it’s still worse than what Stoudemire’s career averages.
Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry have had better stretches in their time with the Bulls than Thomas has done recently.
If Stoudemire isn’t really avialable for what we have to offer, then I hope Thomas becomes a great player for us. But you don’t pass on a trade for Amare Stoudemire, who has statistically been the best offensive player in the NBA the past 3 seasons, because of Tyrus Thomas.

Not to mention
that we are hoping tyrus becomes the next amare…..if we can get the real deal….man im reminded of the kobe and gasol trade rumors….say no if we have to give up deng? Havent we learned our lesson?

We?
Well, that’s a pretty foolish hope, if you ask me, considering Thomas’s skills were defensive and Amare’s were offensive.
I was hoping he’d become a suped-up Kirilenko.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
so you never once thought tyrus might be the next "stat"?
can you honestly say that? Can someone look and tyrus and say, “next kirelenko” before having the thought “next amare”? I dont hear many people talk about how rose and tyrus should run the pick and roll like deron and ak do….And when i see tyrus dunk on somebody or block a shot i dont think…‘yep…thats what ak47 would do’.
Although tyrus is far more defensively orientated than stat, i dont see any resemblance to an ak style of play. Kirilenko is a hard nosed defender, real old school. He wasnt just a physical speciment on defense, but he had the mentality…smart and ruthless. Tyrus’ defensive abilities all have to do with his jumping abilities. Jumping to alter shots, jumping to intercept passes, jumping to block shots……I see tyrus at best a weaker version of “stat” except more on the defensive side of the “nba game scale”

It's because
Tyrus can pass, dribble, shoot, defend and block, and is as freakishly athletic as Kirlenko.
Granted it’s still a bit of hope as Tyrus only recently has even approached what he might be, but he’s still 22 and could be a nice little weapon.
When Tyrus plays well, we’re a completely different team.
Also
Tyrus’s lock down d of Lebron James and at times of Dirk yesterday prove he’s not just a leaper on D.
Of course then Dirk went all crazy with those impossible to stop fade away jumpers that nobody in the league can defend (Which is why I do and have loved Dirk, what a great great player, who’s now very disregarded in this league….it’s a shame they haven’t found the right pieces next to him (they were close))….
Wow... um.
I guess we just view basketball different. You say, lengthy, black, super athletic and equate Thomas and Stoudemire. I see: blocks, good-but-not-great rebounding, steals, passing (not this year, though), a good-but-not-great shot, a barely-existent post-game and not that great of a finisher, and think: Kirilenko.
“Weaker version” of Stoudemire but more defensive. So, not as good offensively but better defensively. Okay, that’s not Stoudemire at all. You don’t have to compare them, and then in degrees, just because they’re both black and look great dunking. You could actually find an NBA player not as good as Stoudemire offensively but better defensively and go from there.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
If tyrus
Had like 40lbs more muscle on him and could actually finish at the rim he would be like Amare right? I dont think its that farfetched an idea, and im pretty sure many people here were waiting for tyrus to start getting better at finishing so that d. rose can throw lobs to him ala nash and stoudemire. I am pretty sure that Amare has the same range if not more consistant shot as tyrus, and size and position are similar. Maybe at the moment you can argue tyrus plays like Kirilenko (i still dont buy that, but thats me) but at least me personally , and people that ive talked to (and i could swear some on this blog) have always hoped that tyrus would get better at finishing at the rim and would do the things stat does…..because he has the build he has the potential.
ITs not so much Tyrus plays like Stat now, but ideally i think everyone would hope he would play like stoudamire. So again you may be right that right now tyrus is like kirilenko, but im sure in the past year or so you also had the thought that “man what if tyrus became the next stat, cuz i think he could do it”. That also explains why many have been arguing not to get rid of tyrus for amare, cuz some think that he can eventually become the same type of player just cheaper and more trying on defense.
Also thanks for throwing race in there!

Hey, you're allowed to think whatever you want
I’d just rather not feel that I’m being included in the collective ignorance of “we”.
Thomas’s build and skills are far closer to Kirilenko’s than Stoudemires. His game and body is nowhere near Stoudemire’s. They both jump, they both dunk, they both are black. If skin color didn’t play a part, I’d be shocked.*
Since you won’t get the distinction: that doesn’t mean I think you’re a racist.

We didn' t choose to not trade Deng for Kobe
Kobe said that if Deng was going to LA he wouldn’t waive his NTC.

Probably the worst mark on Pax's resume...
That he had NOTHING to do with.

You guys think this would be enough to get it done?
Suns get:
Hinrich
Gooden
Noah
1st round draft pick
Bulls get:
Stoudemire
Tucker
Noah complements Amare much better on both ends of the court than Tyrus does
Tyrus is like a poor man’s Amare on offense and is an upgraded version of Amare on defense. They both are best defending the weak-side and roaming, but Tyrus is better at it. On the offensive side of the ball, Tyrus and Amare are both higher USG guys than Noah. Noah is excellent at being very efficient on very few possessions, which is what he would get with Amare playing opposite him. Tyrus is a lot less efficient and uses more possessions than Noah. Also, from Phoenix’s perspective Tyrus has way more upside than Noah and is already an excellent defender and they’ve shown a desire to go more in that direction. I also suspect that Tyrus would be even better offensively with a veteran like Steve Nash directing traffic.

I agree that
Noah compliments Amar’e more….but while I am high on Naoh, I think Tyrus will be the far better player (or could be if it clicks). Noah’s a safer bet though…..and if I were Pax I’d disguss the safer bet pick in Noah and try to keep Tyrus.
A speedy athletic lineup of Rose-Deng-Tyrus-Stat with maybe Thabo and Kirk rotating in at the 1 spell and 2 guard slots, would be an incredible lineup to watch and run with.
I know the same can be said with Noah (who also seems to be fitting in well with Rose)….it sucks that Pax can’t say, Derrick who do you mesh with better, and make that call. But while on paper it’s Noah who should stay, the upside potential of Tyrus is too great in my eyes…..
STAT
I know it stands for Standing Tall and Talented… but what’s the deal with this? Does Amar’e really ask ppl to call him by this name now? You used it above like you were in the know so lay some knowledge on me… I’ve been wondering.
I just assumed it meant he fills up a box score.
With stats.

It's a nickname
Like calling D. Wade Flash, or King James, or Awesome Majoyenrac, just rolls better off the tongue or is easier to type (or in the canse of Awesome Majoyenrac just rings so freaking true that you have to type it)….
Yeah, I have no idea how to pronounce majoyenrac...
I haven’t really stopped to sound it out until now, so in my mind you’ve been “major rack”
Just a different name
That’s easy to remember cuz it’s different, nothing else, no signficance really at all.
how is amare worth so little?
it is entirely plausible that none of the players in the nets offer will ever be starter-caliber players on a playoff team. if that’s a serious offer, the bulls need to make this happen!
fuck the other teams, stat should be here, if amare won't be a bull
then it’s gonna be equal to the level of frustration we had when mike d’antoni chose new york over the bulls.

I'm just going to say this now...
and I’m not going to argue with anybody over it because I have done so in the other 15 Amare threads. I do not want to give up TT in this trade.

I am coming around to that point of view.
Bosh is a different story, since he provides most of Amare’s offense, while being superior in other areas.
Maybe we can?
by Granny Waiters on Feb 9, 2009 12:07 AM CST up reply actions
Yeah, but at this point, Bosh isn't available.
If Amar’e is, you get him. And turtles, there is no argument to be made, because you are so wrong on this one. Rose is the ONLY off limits player if the trade involves Stat.
i guess we will have to wait and see...
or we can all rejoice if they just trade kirk/gooden/ noah and a 1st round

Agreed
to me Noah is a poor mans Varejao, and I don’t think Varejao is starting quality. Not to mention Noah is an out of place PF not a C.

Turtles I just noticed
that you made the Noah-Varejao comparison in a different thread. It’s nice to see that somebody else thinks Noah will be nowhere near the player TT could be.

yeah, i laughed when i saw you post that
i hope we are not the only ones here that think that way.
by i_like_turtles on Feb 9, 2009 4:14 AM CST up reply actions
Yeah
I still think at the face of it Amar’e’s the better player than Bosh. Bosh has less holes, but Amar’e is so fantastic on offense that he still gets the slight nod for the better player (of course presuming he’s motivated).
Though yeah I might prefer a trade involving Bosh since Amar’e seems to be developing a “team cancer” rep, has already had 2 significant knee issues, and while he’s fantastic on one end, he after the trade would need to focus more on the other end….
Bosh is the safer guy, but if Amar’e’s available, we have to make a run for him.
So you're ok with Tyrus coming off the bench behind Amar'e and getting about 20/min a night?
Or are we just gonna completely piss Amar’e off right off the bat and make him play C?
Make Tyrus the 3
Or make Amar’e the 5 (which he’s doen very well in the past) and have the rest roll into place.
Didn't Amare hate playing the 5 before Shaq came around?
Not that the East is nearly as stacked as the West at the 5 spot, but still.

I think he preferred the 4
But he was great at the 5. I think him “hating” the 5 came only after they got Shaq and was a justification (As it seems is the locker room cancer stuff, as many are saying he’s one of the more vocal/communicative guys on that roster and is viewed as a friendly relationship with the rest of them)….
Purely speculative on my part, though
I think it was on here, or maybe hoopshype today that said that the locker room cancer stuff is more an ESPN made up thing for publicity.
