Paxson has to *make something happen* NOW, over-offer if he has to:
What are the chances of Amare Stoudemire getting traded before the deadline?

Chad Ford: Last week I said 10 percent. But I think that was low. The more people I talk to in the league, the more I think it's something in the neighborhood of 30 to 40 percent.

Chad Ford: I can't speak to the veracity of Stephen A. Smith's report. However, the word around the league is that Bosh wants to leave. Even if it's never been said, isn't the writing on the wall?

The more telling quote.
Jason (NYC): What is John Paxson up to?

SportsNation Chad Ford: Well … I think he has to be taking a pretty big sigh of relief after his owner gave him a pretty strong vote of confidence. It sounds to me like he has the authority to start remaking this team … but I wonder if the Bulls plans won’t go into motion until this summer. Luol Deng can be traded them … and it gives them time to do a sign-and-trade with Ben Gordon and maybe find a better home for Kirk Hinrich. I really feel like this whole team, minus Derrick Rose, may end up changing.

There is nothing he said that I would disagree with…I would add that we all know Larry Hughes is being shopped hard right now, but will probably have more value as an expiring contract next summer.

If there is any truth to the Blazers rumor, then Pax may do something before the deadline in hopes of making a bigger splash this Summer…though, the outlook is doubtful.

16 days to go until the trade deadline

And nothing was done by Pax. We not even heard a nice rumor about a possible good trade. Only Hughes to the Nets or O’Neill to the Bulls. Yuck… What has Pax been doing? Sleeping? I’m getting tired of this shit. If we don’t make a trade until the trade deadline expires, we should ask for Pax head. We hear rumors that Bosh and Stoudemire might on the block and we still don’t get a shot at one of those? We might not end with them, because we don’t have a lot to offer, but try damm it. Try! Fuck I’m frustrated…

by bull83 on Feb 4, 2009 11:00 AM CST reply actions

I'm with you

I thought at the very least we’d see Hughes moved. But with him now being placed on the inactive list, it makes it more probable that they may just Eddie Robinson him and send him home…so a Hughes trade is not even guaranteed right now.

It’s look more and more like the deadline will come and go with nothing being done.

SOMETHING needs to be done, not just for the sake of a move, but obviously for improvement in skill or improvement money-wise. Kirk has had a couple of weeks to showcase himself and Noc’s terribleness has been showcased all season long unfortunately…but these are the two who have value! So who knows…

Our beat writers suck

All the talking about Portland wanting a PG and a SF from the eastern conference was brought up by a Portland beat witter. And were we that speculated about Hinrich and Deng/Noc. KC seems to be more focused in ripping Vinny, after spending all summer ripping on BG, and all the stories about the Superbowl party. Who cares about that? Give some story to make the fans believe in the future. Well, maybe is not his fault. Maybe there’s really nothing happening. I wonder why JR supported Pax, when clearly he’s not doing a good job right now…

by bull83 on Feb 4, 2009 11:29 AM CST up reply actions

Maybe KC did

check on those rumors and they turned out to be nothing. Why write about something there never was.

by sue369 on Feb 4, 2009 2:01 PM CST up reply actions

because they do it all the time?

And they’re probably getting e-mails about it all the time.

I mean, seriously?

KC hasn't chased

too many trade rumors. That’s more Sam’s thing. Frankly it’s kind of refreshing that KC doesn’t.

by sue369 on Feb 4, 2009 3:10 PM CST up reply actions

I agree that it's fine he doesn't make up trade rumors like Sam

but ‘chasing’ them is fine. It was a Portland beat writer, so it was something worth exploring.

I’m not too upset about it overall. It’s not up to KC to make up storylines. But to be fair he seems to do that in other aspects of the team, so why not trades?

Mike McGraw said it

That ‘some people’ run to players who aren’t getting minutes expecting them to whine.

I guess it’s not ‘making up’, entirely.

Then he should confirm or deny the rumor

How can you confirm or

deny something you don’t know for a fact. If he isn’t given facts he can’t report them. How many trades have the fans known about before they happened? How many trades were rumored (Kobe) to being a done deal and never materialized? Pax isn’t going to play his hand to KC or anyone else.

by sue369 on Feb 4, 2009 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

I'd love to see Stat or Bosh

paired with Derrick, but I’m not counting on it. What I definitely could see is the Kirk for Miller deal. Petrie sat on his ass, thinking Miller’s value would only increase, but his play tailed off and now he’s hurt. Meanwhile Udrih’s been every bit as bad as we thought, and they’re talking about moving him.

Pax is in a position now where I could imagine a Kirk for Brad straight up. That’s the deal I see getting done at the deadline.

I believe that's an excellent deal!

One more servicable “BIG” with Brad Miller, and that makes Gooden any easy later trade chip also before the deadline. But Paxson has to start the process…

man up!

by exult463 on Feb 4, 2009 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think

the Bulls are interested in Brad Miller and that’s why nothing is being done on that.

by sue369 on Feb 4, 2009 2:03 PM CST up reply actions

agreed

i think the Kings would do that trade. The Bulls value Hinrich higher than Miller

by Basketball Smurf on Feb 4, 2009 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

But sue, aren't you always telling us we don't know what they think and that what they think is all that matters?

everything i've read

has indicated the bulls aren’t interested, even though it would make sense.

by Jaina on Feb 4, 2009 3:51 PM CST up reply actions

I read otherwise a few times -

how the Kings basically wanted Hinrich + Noah, AND they wanted somebody to take on Kenny Thomas. Well, they’ve played the waiting game, and it hasn’t helped them. Miller’s value is waaaaaaay down, and their point guards blow. I mean sweet god – whoever Udrih’s backup was, he must be the single worst NBA point guard I’ve ever seen. No joke. On his drive-and-kick I watched him hit the ref with a perfect chest pass.

It’s getting to the point where Sacto would almost have to sweeten the deal to keep Kirk. Alternatively, they can continue to suck, and delude themselves into thinking that a free agent would want to play for a bad team in a pseudo-city.

My hope is just that Pax is holding off, trying to land that bigger fish….

snley

Yeah I think going into the year there was some interest, but the past 2-3 months everywhere I’ve read said the Bulls are not interested….maybe Sacto is requiring Tyrus in that trade and Pax said it’s not worth his time….I don’t know, but yeah allegedly those trades are dead…..Sam Smith and KC Johnson both in the past 2-3 weeks on TV have also said Bulls weren’t interested from what they’re hearing (but I know previous to that I saw stuff on the big sites saying the same exact thing)….

Who knows, maybe Reinsdorf didn’t like Miller the last time he was a Bull…..that could also be it…
