Around SBN: Troubled Yankees Join Troubled Red Sox In Last Place

Noah is averaging 11.3 points, eight rebounds and 3.5 blocks and shooting 68 percent on the 3-1 Western Conference trip. Thomas is averaging 12.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks and shooting 46 percent.

"They have to continue to make themselves threats, and when they continue to do that it opens up things for the other guys," said Del Negro. "They've been putting in a lot of extra work. And their attitude is good and their effort and intensity has been good, so those things are all positives. Maybe they're just more comfortable with me or the system or what's expected or they're more familiar with things and how we're going to run and how we're going to do certain things. They're picking their spots better. But with young players it's always a work in progress. As long as their effort and intensity is there and their mindset is right good things will happen."

Nice to hear them get recognized for good play and effort

I do generally think Vinny has done a good job of holding them responsible to earn minutes but not pulling the Skiles thing of forgetting about them on the bench. It was highly frustrating at the time to watch a less competitive lineup (hello, Aaron! and woohoo, smallball!) on the court while Ty or Joakim sat, but if it works like it seems it might be working to teach them the level of dedication necessary then it will be a huge benefit in the long run.

On the other hand, and I do realize I’ve just done it here, but I wish Tyrus and Joakim weren’t getting so lumped together that it’s almost like they’re one entity at times. This used to bug me about “the core” as well – it’s convenient to speak of people as a group, but it’s too easy to lose specifics of each individual’s situation and play. This quote puts out and reinforces the idea that Tyrus, up until recently, hadn’t been putting in extra work, and we know from the offseason that’s not the case.

If Noah and Thomas run the floor all season

the way they are running the floor in the last three games, we’re going to win a lot more games.

It will really help us tonight. Transition will isolate Yao’s effectiveness.

Gooden was hurt.

Vinny discovers frontcourt by accident. Someone re-smash Gooden’s groin!

Bullsblogger's quote gets my vote for the most accurate (discovers front court by accident) and the funniest roflol comment of the year.

And we should hand out a special award to rew Gooens sore groin for making the single biggest individual contribution for possibly turning the season around.

Seriously.

I’m even a Gooden fan, but he’s not the future, and I fear he’ll throw a wrench into this good thing we have going right now. While Vinny ultimately praises Tyrus and Noah in the quote above, he’s not exactly glowing about it. There are lots of caveats and a general condescension about them being “young players.” That, to me, means no guaranteed minutes.

It should be him or Nocioni.

Unfortunately, it will be him or Thomas or Noah. I know this for a FACT!

book it.

Maybe not

Maybe Vinny understands that TT and Noah need to play and it’s Gooden or Gray. But you can bet that Noc will get a lot of minutes, because Vinny realized that Thabo is effective at SF. So Noc, will play the PF position

I've liked what I;ve seen from Gooden in street clothes

He’s counseling our youth. He’s pointing out things they might miss. He’s cheering for them.

He’s doing all the things I would hope a veteran with minor injuries that is unable to play would do for the TEAM.

If Gooden's minutes come at the expense of TT or Noah

than somebody should kick VDN in the groin while wearing combat boots.
